Old Hickory Golf Club

The course has a decent layout but the conditions overall are below average to poor. Did see the Marshall once but nothing was done to pick up the pace of play. May have been nice years ago but not aging well.

I play Old Hickory (OH) once or twice a year. Interesting layout but just so-so condition. Greens were a little slow and bumpy. But it was a nice value. We played on Friday and most courses had their weekend rate - over $100. OH was a lot less. Overall a fun experience. I'll go back.

Grew up here and played competitive golf at many of the great courses in the area. Since coming back, I’ve been pretty disappointed in many of the courses—horrible conditions from overly played courses and of course ridiculous slow play. Old hickory was in pretty good shape for the price. I did play the first tee time so didn’t have pace of play issues. Lay out was nice. Challenging. What you see is what you get with no stupid blind shots or gotcha holes. Would go back for sure.

Rough was uncut and was 4 inches tall. Weeds everywhere and all over the fairways. Greens were recently aerated and still recovering. Hoping to come back to see if conditions improved because I do like the course layout.

I’m not sure where the $81 went, but apparently it didn’t go toward the golf course.

Let’s start with the driving range. Calling it a “driving range” feels generous. It’s way out in the wilderness, nowhere near the clubhouse, and the condition was pretty rough. Not exactly the kind of warm-up you expect when you’re paying $81 to play.

The tee boxes were chewed up and beat down. On more than one hole, finding an actual spot to put a tee in the ground became part of the strategy. The fairways were generally fine, although there was plenty of overgrowth around the course.

Then there were the greens. Apparently they had just been punched. Would have been fantastic information to know BEFORE paying $81 and teeing off. Every putt was basically a guessing game. At that point, you’re not really reading greens—you’re negotiating with them.

The bunkers were probably the low point. Both front and back nine had bunkers in absolutely atrocious shape. Calling some of them “bunkers” was charitable.

And finally, pace of play. Brutal. We had a foursome in front of us for the entire back nine who apparently had never been introduced to the concept of letting faster groups play through. We were never offered the opportunity, and they never seemed particularly interested in making room.

Look, I understand that courses have bad days. I understand maintenance happens. I understand greens get punched. But when you’re charging $81, the expectation is that the customer gets some indication of what they’re paying for.

For $81, I expect considerably better conditions, communication, and pace of play.

Overall: would not recommend. Definitely not worth $81. There are too many better options for the money

Course I’m great condition. Surprised greens were air raided but still rolled fast. Can’t wait for bunkers to be completed

Can't blame Old Hickory for the Canadian smog.

But I can blame them for making it worse with cart path only. The grass was fine. So fine in fact. By hole 7 maintenance crews went ahead of us to turn on sprinklers that made ponds on every green we played after hole 8.

Thanks Old Hickory. I understand greens must be watered at some point. But 114$ my goodness. Its not just you guys. Its everything. There's no value in anything anymore.

Like my buddy was told by a waiter once "we got what we got".

Great course and very challenging layout. The driving range needs work.

The course was in great shape when I played it. Greens rolled well, tee boxes were decent. However sand traps could use some help as some were rock traps vice sand traps.

This is a great course that is fun, challenging, and well maintained. Greens are in very good shape and roll well. Fairways are generous and lush. Tee boxes are still filling in but plenty of grass in them. Staff were very friendly and service was exceptional. Also it was nice to see the marshall out checking pace of play. 4 hours and 20 minutes on a weekend with a full course was a good pace and enjoyable. Nice putting and chipping greens. Range is small but adequate to warm up. Would definitely play here again.

Punched greens, cart path only (due to fertilization), barely playable tee boxes. Informed about all of this after paying and being charged full price. Layout is great but the course needs some serious love.
