The Gauntlet is situated along the banks of the lake that is the centerpiece of Curtis Memorial Park. When it first opened in 1995, Golf Digest recognized it as one of the "top ten new courses to play in the U.S." This challenging layout will definitely test your shot making abilities. The golf course begins with a tough front nine that has several sharp doglegs over water and tall grasses. There are also a slew of blind shots. The back nine is a bit gentler since there's less water and it is more open and forgiving, but the large, multi-tiered greens can be tricky. The fourth hole is the golf course's signature. Your tee shot will have to carry a marsh to a narrow landing area on this par 5. After that, you'll be faced with a triple-tiered green with the lake to the left and bunkers to the right.

Honest Review

Played the Course it was a bit more challenging than I expected. Fairways were great and most of the greens were really good too a few bad spots here or there nothing to really complain about. I would definitely play it again.

Challenging

The course layout is nice and it demands respect. However, the fairways need improvement. The price doesn't match the condition of the course.

Not sure if it was the time of year but the course was pretty quiet. Fairways can be steep and lots of dog legs but they are wide.

Fun place

Only play d the front 9, but it’s a fun layout. Many hills, several blind tee shots.

The greens were well maintained, no weeds, well kept, but they were slow as can be. I play at twin lakes a lot and I consider those slow … but the Gauntlet was slower.

Over all recommend, I’ll be back there, liked it.

Solid

Hospitality is the clear winner at The Gauntlet. Carts suck though!

Tricky course. Requires a lot of shot shaping. Several blind tees. Good amount of water although not in play.

Will return.

Very clean course - way overbooked

The course was in fantastic shape. They were preparing for a tournament and it showed. Fairways and rough were in great shape, greens were smooth and fast. The only problem was they significantly overbooked. We had an 11am tee time, but when we got there there were two other groups still waiting to tee off. The starter pushed us to start on hole 10, which would be fine normally, except he then put a group of 2 right behind our group of four so we were pushed. Then when we came around the bend, there were no openings for us to play the front nine and had to wait 40 minutes before we could tee off. The course was in great condition, but this was the longest round I have ever had because of the poor time management of the course.

Tee time

Greens good, fairways good , but tee boxes , and fairway bunkers were bad.

Tee time changed without the notifications and got out late. No marshals around the courses to move the traffic.

A little disappointed

This course was recommended to me from a local. I’m still getting used to golf out here after living in AZ for 16 years, so take my review with a grain of salt.

Staff was very friendly. Range was off mats which I don’t mind. Pitching green was just muddy fairway grass.

Course is a pretty cool layout. I played way forward of where I would usually play with the group I was with, so it presented some interesting decisions.

Tee boxes were pretty bad. Fairways were ok. Greens were decent. Fairway bunkers were mostly pretty bad. Green side bunkers were decent.

I probably won’t play it again for awhile since I’m still new to the area so plenty of other courses to check out, but I wouldn’t avoid it altogether.

Hard course

The course is very hard. A lot of blind tee shots, tight turns, tight fairways. Elevated greens, lots of sloped greens and they were perfect conditions with good speed. It made it very tricky. I enjoyed it, but more difficult course than any other course ive been to around Stafford area.

Great Fall Golf

Course was in great condition, except for some of the tee boxes and bunkers, which were a little rough and barren of sand. Fairways were excellent and greens were outstanding. Last played in late 90s ... Would definitely play again.

Bring your rangefinder!

As I was well aware, there are many blind shots and layups off the tee box. If you don't have a rangefinder then purchase one or you will be wrong on yardage most of the day. That is downside.

The upside is the course is in great shape and well maintained by the staff. It is short, but that is due to many dogleg throughout the layout. I look forward to going back, but not without more technology in hand. Maybe you add GPS to your golf carts? Maybe you Mark sprinkler heads?

Not a Bad Day

I haven't played here in over a year. The course was really in good condition and as challenging as ever. Randy the starter was fantastic and kept the pace steady. I would certainly consider coming back during the week if the prices were more reasonable.

Best condition of any course in area.

I’ve played this course over the past few years and it is in by far the best condition of any course in the area. It’s a tough layout that is so enjoyable to play when the fairways and greens are so nice. If you played it in the past and the greens were not great you should definitely see it now.
