The Gauntlet Golf Club
About
The Gauntlet is situated along the banks of the lake that is the centerpiece of Curtis Memorial Park. When it first opened in 1995, Golf Digest recognized it as one of the "top ten new courses to play in the U.S." This challenging layout will definitely test your shot making abilities. The golf course begins with a tough front nine that has several sharp doglegs over water and tall grasses. There are also a slew of blind shots. The back nine is a bit gentler since there's less water and it is more open and forgiving, but the large, multi-tiered greens can be tricky. The fourth hole is the golf course's signature. Your tee shot will have to carry a marsh to a narrow landing area on this par 5. After that, you'll be faced with a triple-tiered green with the lake to the left and bunkers to the right.

Too Challenging
The course was too challenging. Not that I'm afraid of a challenge, but the architect seemed to attempt to make some holes so difficult its laughable. Some par four/five fairways have two doglegs, with no chance to cut the corner. The greens were slopped so much, putting past the hole and off the green was the norm. I won't play it again, but I do recommend others give it a shot.
Very rough conditions
Unless you live close to this course, it is not worth going out of your way to play. The course is simply not very well maintained.
The sand trap's need to have more sand and less gravel.
The sand traps need work. There is a lot of rock's and gravel in them. Overall the course is a fun course to play. We will play agian.
I played from the black tees
I had originally was going to play from the tips but moved up one and found the course still just as challenging. Each hole had pretty good distance and we had enough par 5s to move through the course and play long. The staff very friendly! Only one is was my burger was a bit salty but I don't eat much salt so to most it may be good to go. If you haven't tried the course it is definitely a good one!
Happy golfing,
Stace
Fun Course
Fun course. Not long but challenging must be able to make shots. Fairways fairly forgiving the premium is put on approach shots as greens are protected with a lot of hazards. Greens require attention patchy in spots. Overall, fun course. Even better with price discount from GolfNow.
Great deal,TOUGH course
Course was in really good shape. Pace of play was about 3.5 hours. We were treated great by staff and I really enjoyedy round of golf this time.
ok
if they give u a great discount then i would play it more to for 40 or 50 dollars it is a little high for what u get >>>
Just gorgeous
My son and I tried this course on a beautiful fall day and were just wowed by the courses natural beauty and great challenges. I was in some tough bunkers, dealt with the three tiered greens and did my best to keep the snowmen at bay! Overall the entire experience was a ten from the golf to the lunch we will certainly be back!
Challenges and blind shots in a hilly parkland setting
Great course if you like a challenge and can accept the occasional lost ball after a blind shot. Course was adequately maintained, in a visually attractive setting, with lots of variety in the layout from fairly level holes to ones that climb and descend, turn and cross hazards. Some shots have narrow openings, some are blind, and some have significant elevation changes. To score low you will need to be accurate as to distance and direction. The greens are not especially large, are undulating, and played slower than I anticipated. The scenery was beautiful with all the fall colors in the trees and the maintenance staff did a great job of keeping the fairways clear of leaves. Pace of play was great as the course was not crowded. Without rushing, I finished in less than 3+1/2 hours. Lots of fun to play this course if you are not flustered by the challenge.
Course and staff were terrific!
The course was well maintained and it was a great day!
not many crowded
good course for great price
however, rough is not too good
Green has to be improve much more.
This course layout was challenge ,
but green condition was terrible.
From tee to green this course needs work.
The front 9 took us 3.5 hours on a friday. We left with a rain check for the back 9. Not sure I will return to use it.
Long and Challenging course, a bit pricey and slow
Long and Challenging course, a bit pricey and slow. Need Marshall to enforce pace of play.
P.B.Dye would be ashamed.
I am sure when this course was built it was beautiful. I have had several friends say it was a great course when they played it years ago. Besides having bald spots everywhere, It is overgrown with weeds and other vegetation you can't even see the lake on holes 2, 3, and 4. What a shame!
great course
played here several years the price and course ,staff are excellent
Good layout, horrible condition
I enjoyed the layout and the pace of play was fast but the condition of the course was horrible. Greens was shaggy, not much sand in the bunkers. I was told the greens caught a disease hence the longer length of the grass, bare spots, and one green out of play.
This course is the biggest rip off on the east coast!
I'd rather hit my clubs off of a parking lot than these fairways. The front nine took three hours and when we approached the 10th there were 3 groups backed up at the tee box. The marshall was there watching the group in the fairway hit multiple shots and didn't say a word. When I got to the course the pro shop told me to go take the first available cart and that the keys were all mixed up. We loaded our cart and got ready to head up to #1 when the starter made us unload our cart so that a group who just so happened to have the matching key could use that cart instead of just going to get them another key. After all of this I asked for a rain check and intended to come back at some point to finish my round but was told no.
This place needs some work
This course is in desperate need of attention. Tee boxes are a mess, fairways decent, greens are horrible. Golf carts are old and filthy dirty.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
that's probably a common problem a lot of good overlooks have been blocked by foliage over the past 20 years LOL you go out and trim it down and you have nature-lovers complaining about the loss of habitat plus who's going to pay for it.
this is one of the great things about winter golf ;)
and if it's too good you get people crowding them for the views
