The Gauntlet is situated along the banks of the lake that is the centerpiece of Curtis Memorial Park. When it first opened in 1995, Golf Digest recognized it as one of the "top ten new courses to play in the U.S." This challenging layout will definitely test your shot making abilities. The golf course begins with a tough front nine that has several sharp doglegs over water and tall grasses. There are also a slew of blind shots. The back nine is a bit gentler since there's less water and it is more open and forgiving, but the large, multi-tiered greens can be tricky. The fourth hole is the golf course's signature. Your tee shot will have to carry a marsh to a narrow landing area on this par 5. After that, you'll be faced with a triple-tiered green with the lake to the left and bunkers to the right.

Evaluation

I have truly enjoyed the course the last 15 years. In has gotten better each year. What it needs is better drainage of a few holes.(2/7/11/13).

The course itself was in good condition I will be back for the course. As for my experience with the bar staff, I came in expecting Debra but she wasn’t working I got a very friendly elderly lady and a very rude red head lady. I think her name was Raychul? She was very rude she was very self centered and unprofessional. She was in a hoodie and jeans. That isn’t appropriate attire. She also had fake nails with polish on the. Very rude and very disrespectful to the older golfer group.

I will not be back around the bar/restaurant unless Debra is going to be working. Someone I can actually have a conversation with instead of being insulted by someone who considers themselves a manager?

Seems to me like the “management group” has very bad taste in people to make a manager.

The elderly lady was very very nice. I did like her better than the younger red haired girl. She at least had a brain and manners.

Good course, decent shape

Overall, a challenging but player friendly course. The front nine is in immaculate condition, greens were fast for the winter and fairways, although yellowed were not burnt out or overly soggy. The greens on the back nine were hit or miss with two in just terrible conditions (not a smoothie surface to be seen). The back nine has a few more elevation challenges than the front nine. Overall, a great course, good price, and ‘good’ condition for winter/off-season play.

Washed out

Recently redid the greenes a lot of bare spots, all the traps were washed out. the front nine had a lot of blind shots many holes with bells to let the group behind you know when they can hit. the back nine was a little more traditional.

Growing

The change of the course over the last couple of years has been great. New management has helped build this course. Familiar faces with professional staff and a challenging layout make this a fun course!

Challenging and fun course

Course is challenging but fun. Well maintained and the staff is great/very friendly. Great conditions in the middle of December and pace of play was great while having a busy morning.

Challenging (and scenic!) course

Played here in the dead of winter, late Dec 2020. Fairways were all dried and brown. Which is expected for this time of year. Greens were firm but about a third had pock marks that interfered with my putting. Again, understandable for this time of year. The course layout was a very pleasant surprise and just the right level of challenging, for me (+10). Gauntlet will challenge your distance control and line so bring your A game. (Found out later it was designed by P. B. Dye. That figures.) Greens have lots of undulations so watch out. I haven’t seen Gauntlet in peak season and I can’t wait to find out. I will be putting up with the atrocious on 95-South traffic to play here sometime in 2021 season.

What a disappointment

Based on recent review I gave this course a try. Greens in desperate need of repair. Sand traps with no sand.

His course needs some serious investment and rebuild. Close to a 5 hour round is about as bad as golf gets. Don’t waste your time or money.

It’s ok

The course is okay but not well kept, the greens are patchy and not well kept and definitely not worth the money to play here.

Challenging Course

Love the challenge of this course. A lot of doglegs right and dogleg lefts. Over half the holes are not visible from tee box. Front 9 was more challenging than back nine. But overall the course was scenic and peaceful and a lot of fun. Will definitely return very soon for another round.

Amazing layout

First time I played the Gauntlet course. Every hole was challenging, like the designer went wild with ideas. Hazards just where you don't want them, multi-level greens. A little of everything. You'd never be able to play this course the same way twice. Course, especially the greens, was in fine shape.

A course worth playing.

I haven’t played here in several months. Course is in great shape. Paths still need a little attention but that’s a minor flaw considering the improvements made here over the last couple years or so. Pro shop is well set out and the new clubhouse set up puts many other local courses to shame. All staff are polite and pleasant to deal with and most fellow golfers are really friendly.
