Nice, For a Change

Wife and I played. Pace was nice and comfortable, on a beautiful day. Course was in good shape, and staff were friendly. We were disappointed, in that the advertisement we saw boasted good food at the grille, yet they were out of chicken (we wanted chicken sandwiches, instead of the burger/hot dog routine). So, we just purchased 2 cokes (almost $6.00 - ridiculous), and left. Suggest drop your drink prices - as after on the course all day, hot, and having already paid to play - there needs to be some reward/incentive (good price on the drinks, to have folks come back, instead of them leaving feeling they were ripped off). A very small price to pay/reduce price/adjustment for drinks for happy faces and wanting to them to return. Place needs to be better prepared - they could have gotten probably another $20.00 out of us, had they been better prepared and not out of chicken . Overall, the experience was different and okay; nothing "extremely" nice or sensational. We did feel VERY uneasy/unsafe on a few holes, where others at the T Box behind you couldn't see you in the fairway, due to the terrain. I know there are bells at some holes, but there were still at least 3 more holes #we played Falls/Longest# where more safe bells need to be placed. I know the course has been there a long time, but this needs to be done ASAP - we had 1 ball rain down on us from behind - wasn't player's fault - couldn't see us. Also, our first time playing at this place, once out on the course, we were shocked that the score card has no lay-out of the holes! We'd probably play there again, if some of these safety measures are put in. As said above, we had one close call, with a ball from behind coming down on us. Management, I hope reads this review and makes the improvements. I would identify the holes, but I can't because the card we had/now have here at home 1 1/2 hours away, does NOT give a hole by hole layout. If management wants to offer us a free round to come back and play same 18 - we'd gladly make the trip and identify those holes, to help you out. Course/Player Safety is # 1!

I work as a regional manager for Billy Casper Golf. Would like to talk with you about your experience and the safety issues you mentioned. I will be at the course Monday if you get a chance to call. The number is 540-854-9890. Thanks!

We live in N. Virginia - not worth the drive

starter put us on the course that had too many players going out just before us, while the other 2 courses were not as crowded. fairways and greens were in good condition but areas off the fairways needed to have the grass trimmed; very difficult to find your ball. several blind holes; would be very useful to have descriptions of each hole. Longest hole is more like an obstacle course with a blind pond off the tee and an unreasonable fairway slope. not worth the drive.

Great for the money

For $40 you get greens fees and carts, and the course is in great shape. The greens are massive with a lot of undulations, and were definitely challenging. Overall, you can't go wrong for the price.

Rough....Rough

If you hit in rough your chance of finding your ball is not too good. I've been playing for 20 rears and this is the most difficult I've ever encountered. Greens and fairways are excellent. Bunkers could use some attention. We enjoyed the 27 holes we played and recommend this course.

The Definition of Unique

I've played this course 3 or 4 times now even though it's over an hour and a half away. It offers three 9-hole courses, each named after their most prominant hole: a par-3 with an island green, a par-3 on top of a waterfall (that you drive your cart behind/under on your way to the green#, and the longest hole in America, a 800+-yard par-6.

If you like variety and playfulness in a golf course, this place is for you. If you like your links with a standard layout and gimmick-free, this place probably isn't for you. Besides the holes mentioned about, there is a par-3 in the shape of a baseball field #complete with an "outfield" fence), a par-3 with an "island" green surrounded completely by sand, and every golf course landscape feature known to man. Every hole is completely different from the last, you will not be bored with this course to say the least.

The condition of the course is above average but not exceptional. Greens are slightly fast and the rough is thick--you might lose balls from well-hit tee shots. The staff is very friendly but play can be slow on the weekends.

Golf Now usually has great deals for this course so it's worth a try!
