Unaware
The cost did not justify the experience. There was no mention of the changes to hole 2, where they are currently renovating it to transform it from a par 5 to a challenging par 4. Locating golf balls proved to be quite difficult due to the tall rough.
Intolerable pace
This course needs a full time marshal bad! My wife and I got stuck behind a twosome that played at a glacial pace. We were all on the same tee box twice but no offer to play through or join them. Just foul looks.
It’s a public course
Fairways mostly good, greens mostly beat up and unrepaired by public play, sand traps untouched by maintenance staff, so they were compacted by the recent rain. Tee time was 8:32 am, so greens should have been in better shape.
Shrink the game
I used to love playing here; it's not a crazy layout, but it's a fun experience with some getable holes. Now it seems like the worst golfers in the world gather around here and make the pace just terrible. I have seen people drive up on the green, I have seen people take 20+ minutes on a hole. Just a lack of etiquette from a lot of people I've seen golf here.
Doubtful if I will play again
When I played, the back nine holes were under maintenance, so I played the front nine twice. The staff are super friendly. The layout is challenging on some holes. However if the ball goes just a bit outside, it sinks into the grass and disappears, so it’s very difficult to spot it. The tee boxes and the greens need to be improved. Overall I am not likely to go again other than trying out the back nine once.
Surprised
Upon arrival found out front nine was closed. Paid on line for 18. If I knew front was closed I would of just paid for nine. Not upset but very surprised.
Pair people up
Dogwood is in excellent condition—greens, fairways, and overall layout were all top-notch. I really enjoyed playing here and the course itself is well maintained and fun to play. The only area that could use improvement is in the way groups are paired. Allowing singles and twosomes to go out separately really slows things down and creates long rounds (five to six hours isn’t necessary). Pairing twosomes with twosomes would make the pace of play much smoother.
Also, I saw a review complaining that all the flags are the same color and that you can’t tell front, middle, or back pin positions. Honestly, if you’re measuring distance (as most golfers do), you know how far the flag is—it really doesn’t matter what color it is. That kind of complaint feels a little nitpicky.
Overall, this course is in great shape, fun to play, and I’d definitely come back.
Great course for the money
Pretty decent course. Nothing special, good place to have some fun. Couple greens/tee boxes were patchy but for $50 on a Sunday I was very pleased with playing here. Will definitely be back
Getting Better
The course is getting better and better. Greens are always in good shape, fairways are very playable course is really great overall. Small improvements over the year are looking great.
Poor Maintenance
Desk high-schooler was too busy talking to her friends (way too many kids in the AC clubhouse). Dead golf cart on hole 1, no water on holes, etc. Clearly this course and maintenance of cart paths is going downhill as the city has taken it over. Used to be capable people at the desk.
