South Riding Golf Club
About
South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

A go to course!
Overall a great round of golf at a really good price. The course is easily playable for all levels of play. Beginning golfers need not fear this course and accomplished golfers will find enough challengers to ensure an enjoyable round of golf.
Great Place, Great People, Great Experience
This is a great place to get a round of golf in. The staff there are extremely friendly, and the cooks make great food. They give you a very good price compared to the area, and the value is even better considering the experience you get. The course itself was immaculate. Great layout and perfect mixture of narrow and wide open fairways. Definitely will be returning and recommending to others. Great experience!
Very very RUDE/UNFRIENDLY Staff
I've played this course several times already. I like the course but I would NEVER EVER go back there again only because the guy at the front ( never bothered to get his name because he is always RUDE.., I mean always and I dont bother getting rude peoples names) but if you want a description... he is oriental... most likely korean... short and stocky. I've tolerated him in the past but this time I say enough! When we finished our round, this guy came to me and said... in a very rude manner ... " Next time I will not allow you to play five hour rounds anymore" and I was taken aback since i didn't expect this from him. So I said... "excuse me" and he said it again... " Next time I will not allow you play five hour rounds" ... at this point...i said started wlaking away from him and ignored him because at this point I already made up my mind that this guy is just by nature Rude. In reality we didn't play five hours.. we teed off at 9:30 and finished at about 2:10 ... cart path only.. we didn't hold off anyone behind us and no one was infront of us. So I would say that we were enjoying our round until this idiot/jerk made that comment and ruined my day. Only for that reason I will give you a bad review.
nice and pleasant course
My first time play on this course. It was a little drizzling and course is wet but for most part I can still get on and off from my riding cart. The course is wide and relatively easy even for my as a beginner.
The conditions of fairways and greens are very good. Unless some other courses in the region, tee boxes are all open to public. I can't ask for a better deal than the $10 plus $3.5 fee to GolfNow.
If I have to put some comments in CON section, it is the bunkers. There're no rakes provided in bunkers. Also some courses nested in residential neighbors make me a little uneasy.
Overall, I like it and will come back when the price is right.
Too many depots
I hope players need to repair depot which is made by own.
No push/pull carts allowed!
For some inexplicable reason, the course will not let you walk with a push or pull cart. They said I could walk the course but only if I carried my bag! When I asked at the Pro Shop what was the rationale behind this, they simply said "Because that's the rule" but could not explain the logic it was based on. Needless to say, I did not play the course and never will!!!
my round
I booked on line about 15 minutes before my round so I arrived about 20 minutes after my tee time. When I get to the course i explain what happen. The individual working informed me I would have to wait about 20 t 30 minutes because he had 2 groups of 3 and 4 that were going out granted I am by myself so I was put behind these groups and had to wait on every hole. I asked if I could go off the back and was rudely told no. the course was not crowded the weather was 44 degrees and windy so only die hard on the course. I love the course but ever time I have been here the staff has been rude.
Worth a visit
Nice layout, some challenges yet very fair set-up.
A++++ for the superintendent and grounds crew. Best leaf removal seen this year. Great job guys.
First Time at South Riding
I was very impressed with South Riding on my maiden voyage there. Course was in very good shape. Greens were smooth & true. Some very difficult pin placements but manageable. Pace of play was just over 4.5 holes, mostly due to deep rough and leaves (not unexpected for fall golf). We will definitely be back.
Unexpectedly Please!
This course left me wanted to play again. It was a definitely challenge with winding fairway and undulating greens. The course was in exceptional shape for the season and the teeboxes were immaculate. The greens rolled true, but he rough was punishing. You really need to keep your ball in play and were rewarded as much with the crisply manicured fairways. All in all, it was a great course that I look forward to enjoying again next season.
It was a great hot deal
There are few spots in the fairway that it was too muddy. They should fix these spots. Because it was not too much rain and I think these spots have a problems with drain the rain. Also, they have not cut the rough and green. Rough was too thick and too deep to get out of it. Green need to cut the grass. Otherwise it is a great course to play whenever you pick the great hot deal.
Course Has Seen Better Days
I played this track for the first time in a few years, and was a bit disappointed. Even though I don't believe it had rained the night before, the course was SOAKED. It must have been over watered. This led to a lot of mucky conditions and standing water on the course. At least (surprisingly) we were allowed 90 degree rule, or it would have been an extremely long round.
The course was also somewhat browned out, which, while not unusual for courses in this area at this time of year, is not the case at nearby Herndon Centennial, which is better maintained.
I still love the layout at SRGC, and would return under (hopefully) dryer conditions.
Greens not in great shape
Overall it was a good day. Weather was good, pace of play was good. Greens were not in real good shape.
One of My Favorites
I really like this course. Even though it is set up inside a housing development, you really don't notice the houses on many holes. The lay out is challenging yet fair, with a good number of tee boxes to select to match your game. The greens were in good condition, even for the end of summer.
Enjoyable Course
Haven't played here in several years and the course was in good shape. It was extremity hot outdoors but the course had water available. The staff was friendly and the snack bar was reasonably priced. The rough was very difficult to advance from so stay out of that and the collars are challenging too.
...meh...not bad but not great either
This is a decent course in an upscale neighborhood but the course is rather mundane except for a few holes (certainly #12 stands out) and there are a lot of houses practically on the course and road-noise from cars driving right by this course. #16 green you play a par3 with cars driving right behind the green. It is a large, long course with some good carries (esp #1 from the back tees) and some challenging holes, but overall the course is in at best average condition and is only moderately interesting. It's not bad but it's just not great. Just too wide and too flat and the greens are a mess (though still decent to putt on) and overall the course is no real challenge. It does have decent "air" and it's in a decent neighborhood with a nice clubhouse, it's not some backwoods course back in the middle of the woods somewhere. It's a decent course to play on occasion and respectable for that part of DC (certainly there are worse courses near Ashburn, like Brambleton), a place you could respectably take friends or clients to play, but in the overall sense it's just slightly above average.
Nice Course
Good layout overall very nice course, but.
Still recovering from aeration & several bunkers are under construction.
May want to give them a few weeks to get it together.
Saw the beverage cart twice
But never saw the ranger even though we asked for help with the golf by committee group in front of us, who had nobody in front of them.
Again nice layout well maintained with the few above temp issues.
Don't forget your GPS, not very well marked.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Donald,
Thank you for your feedback and the information about your round. I'm sorry that the person at the counter was rude about starting on the back and that you had to play behind 4somes. Although the course was not crowded, because of a frost delay that day and some maintenance projects that morning, we were unable to send golfers off the back in the morning. I'm sorry you didn't receive a further explanation at the counter that day.
