11:10 am tee time on a Tuesday....why did it take 3 hours to play 9 holes? I was told I couldn’t walk since I was paired up with 3 other people. Those 3 other people tees off 10 minutes early without me. Also 1 was walking....so why couldn’t I walk? Also, 3 hours for 9 holes is ridiculous. I asked to rain check the back 9 for as early as tomorrow and was told I could not. And that it has something to do with Golfnow. I’ve done this before at this course no issues(thanks to Scott). So I paid for 18, and got to play 9. It’s not a bad course but everytime I play here I have a bad experience with this issue. Probably won’t play here again.
Great Place to Spend the Day
This course is ALWAYS fun to play! The fairways are wide with beautiful (inviting:) water hazards. The staff is super helpful and friendly. Golf carts always immaculate. Mike Fentress and his staff do an outstanding job of creating an alluring paradise to play your best game!
Love this course
I play with a weekly women’s group at Kempsville Greens. All of the gentlemen on this course treat us with respect and friendliness. Mike and his staff great us warmly each Monday morning. The course has followed the Covid safety rules and has allowed us to take separate carts for those who ride. Most of our group do walk, however. We are all retired women who love golf and we love playing at Kempsville.
The course has just enough challenges to keep the play interesting but not frustrating. It always leaves you wanting to come back.
Recommended!
Nice course with a pleasant front 9 and a particularly tricky back 9. Staff is lovely and very friendly - my wife and I are beginners and the starter let us tee off early so we didn’t get paired with a more experienced group.
Grounds are bit rough but greens are mostly good and equipment is nice (brand new rental set, nice carts). Played 2x and will be back!
Kempsville Greens
I wanted to get a round in and didn’t want to play anything too expensive. Kempsville had some pretty good reviews and also was very affordable. It was so worth playing. It was an awesome change to what I’d been playing in the Chesapeake/ Va Beach area. Somewhat narrow and in a neighborhood of condos but a pretty awesome layout and had fun/challenging holes. It always helps when you birdie 18 on the way off of a golf course but I was excited about the course well before the 18th. I’d recommend to anyone and have plans to play again soon.
The good, The bad and the ugly
The good. The staff in the pro shop and the grill were friendly and service was good. In the 1st hole my son and I knocked the ball within 165 of the tee. We waited for almost 10 minutes while the twosome in front of us hit a couple of shots. They were not very good but we have all been there at one time or another. While we were waiting for the two golfers to put out the starter drive his car out to us and asked us to pick up the pace. We pointed out and asked if he could see the group putting on the green. I said to him I wouldn't want to hit one of them. He replied we couldn't hit the ball that far. I said sir we are at 165. He got nasty in which we told him he needed to leave us alone after he said the same thing 3 times. He told us F/U and went back toward the 1st tee box. My son and I both hit the ball on the green from where we were. If we would have listened to him we could have hurt the group on the green. We played 18 holes in 3 hours and 5 minutes which was a good pace. I was very shocked and there starter he was rude and nasty. As far as the course. The tee boxes were terrible. The course and greens are covered with pine needles and cones. It was hard to putt in with all of it all over the greens. And there were bald or flat out bare spots all over the course. Defiantly the worst shape course I have played in this year by far. I have drove past the course many times and thought let's give it a try. Will be the last. I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone not even a beginner. Thank you
