Friendly staff and nice laid out course. Greens are super fast. Very good course
Wet
There were torrential rain storms on Thursday into Friday and there was A LOT of standing water. That being said, the course was in nice shape. Everyone was friendly and there were clear directions given about the standing water. Greens were fast, soft and true. I would definitely play again
A fair course
Generous fairways with slow fuzzy greens that looked like they were aerated recently. Bring a GPS because yardage are quite limited besides 200/150. Lots of water retention on course but overall a fair layout
1st round in 2020
I have played this course numerous times. I really like the layout. The greens are super slow but there has been so much rain ty I’m sure they can’t keep them dried out.
The staff is hit or miss. Some guys are cool, some are less than cool.
Be careful using the tee off app. If you try to change the time after you book you are on your own. The course won’t help you at all and the staff really doesn’t care.
I still like the course. Great layout. Pace of play is really slow. Nobody moving anybody around.
There are many other options in the beach.
Red wing
Overall, course is in good shape. Greens were rough from sand (aeration) and ball marks not repaired. Putts did not roll well or stay online.
Poor conditions
played 18 through golf now for $54 with a cart. Good was the course lay out but bad were the low puddled small areas in the fairway that I just happened to find. Out of place with dry fairways. The greens were punched so very bad putting conditions. Bad timing. If I had phoned they would of informed me but wheen I arrived at the course they did not let me know. I made perfect putts but the ball would jump left and right due to the aerated greens. I played Kempsville for $22 and walked with better greens and better conditions. I was disappointed but I would love to play it again with better conditions.

Local Gem
Still enjoy playing Red Wing! In really decent shape with all the rain - a few soggy areas in the fairways (standing water). The course is a hidden gem that I still enjoy playing...good rate, good pace of play, course is in good condition. Recommend if you are looking to thoroughly enjoy and receive a challenging day of golf.
Stopped playing this course a long time ago...should not have come back
I use to play this course several times a year and I stopped because the course itself fell off dramatically. My wife and I tried it again a week ago...nothing has changed. We normally play a course 5 minutes from our house that is always in excellent condition no matter the recent weather. The fairway grass at Redwing lake was way too long on almost all the fairways. With an 8:10 am tee time you would expect the greens and bunkers to be neat and clean...not here...very few of the bunkers were raked and EVERY green had 5-10 deep pitchmarks in them. You normally expect a few from people ahead of u that dont have good course manners once in a while. But at that time of morning, with few people ahead of us...it was as if there were a couple days worth of unrepaired marks. Our home course, which is a public course run by the same group, has a guy that goes around throughout the day and fixes that very issue. My wife ended up having a shoe issue while out on the course. The pro shop had ZERO pairs of women's shoes. When I asked the pro shop guy if they may have some not yet on the shelves all i got was a "nope", he didn't even look up from the golf glove display he was doin. This was not a good course 5-10 yrs ago....AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED. We will not be returning to this course ever again. There are much better courses in Virginia Beach.

One of my favorite courses in the area
Awesome course to play. First impressions are hard to erase, CART ARE ALWAYS DIRTY. For the money you pay you should get a clean cart. Overall great staff, one in particular is on the rude side. Fun course but can also test the game of the skilled. Some hole do hold water after a big rain. I can play this course any day.
Great course at the beach
This course is one of my favorites! Always in great condition and super drainage after a rain while others in the area remain swampy. Visually attractive, occasional wildlife sightings, and very challenging. Don't worry about the gunfire and explosions over the tree line...that's just the sounds of freedom from Dam Neck Naval Base.
Annual vacation
The course was not busy due to COVID-19 so it we had a nice leisurely round. I try to play here every year when I visit and the course was in the best shape I can recall. It is a fun course, convenient to where we stay and a good value.
Pro shop staff was surly, argumentative. Starter was nice. Course was in terrible condition. Sand traps had not seen maintenance in weeks.
