Nice Golf Course in Chico
Always try to play Bidwell Park Golf Course when we are in Chico. Whether its the deer, turkeys, geese & ducks on the fairways, the course is always fun. It was a busy day and a little slow paced. A lot of locals walk the course.
fun course, but...
BPGC has a great layout and is in a great location. It is a muni with limited funds for improvements.
When I played it yesterday, the greens had been aerated and sanded which was unusual for this time of year. Had I known it, I would have played elsewhere. Too bad there isn't a way to get the word out before paying online. But because I like the course, I will be back in a couple of weeks.
Pace of Play was so slow it took us five hours and 15 minutes because two foursomes slowed everybody down in the Marshall tried to get them to go fast
The pace of play was so slow it took five hours and 15 minutes to play 18 holes there were two foursomes that was causing everybody's problems the marshals tried to get them to go faster but they just wouldn't
Pace of play terrible
20 dollars on golf now was appropriate for the value of this round. Teed off at 12:00 pm finished on hole 15 at 4:45 pm as we could not take any more. I guess the blame has to go too the course management and a complete failure to enforce any sort of "pace of play standards". The course is very boring but a decent tract to spend a Saturday afternoon but waiting 2-3 groups on most par 3,s was just ridiculous. I guess the management feels they don't have the kind of course to attract serious golfers so anything goes including a lot of beer drinkers and sloppy golfers
Love the wildlife
Was very hot but staff made sure we had ice and water. We could hear everyone in the creek trying to stay cool. Lots of Deer under trees and by the creek.
Terrible Staff - Decent Course
Started out very nice but half way through hole one we were stopped by Gene the marshal who rudely inspected our ice chest. I understand the course policy on glass and alcohol but it was 6AM and I was with my 15 year old son and Gene was very rude. Gene continued to harass us on the next tee box saying we were holding up play. When a gentleman we were playing with politely pointed out that the players behind us were still on the previous green, Gene rudely said "don't argue with me".
Two holes later Gene stopped us again and again very rudely asked us "are you 12 handicap?" when we said no he demanded we go off the white tee box. We said ok but we had started to play a scramble in order to quicken our pace. He followed us the entire front nine and then on the 10th tee box Gene started yelling at us about not having respect for the course.
After a 5 minute berating he finally left and a nice lady from the course came up to us and apologized for him. My son was very intimidated and made the comment that this may be the reason why the PGA is struggling to attract younger players. We were very open to suggestions and were very respectful but when the course marshal immediately comes at you with an attitude it is hard to give respect.
Very disappointing!! I would rather drive 20 minutes south to Table Mountain Golf Course, which is better maintained and with staff that are actually excited and happy to teach and introduce new golfers to the wonderful game.
It was very clear that we were not welcome at Bidwell Golf Course.
a great day on the course
Beautiful day at Bidwell. The round was pretty slow with lots of people out on the day. Greens were in great shape and the fairways were perfect.
Greens and fairways are in great shape!
Love playing this course the greens and Fairways are in great shape and you can't beat the atmosphere of the trees and Wildlife! Grab a cold one from the clubhouse as you round the corner to the back nine they have a great selection!
Foothill Nook
Nestled along a beautiful foothill stream this course offers challenging golf with black tail deer and geese as a constant gallery making for a pleasurable round of golf. If you tend to stretch the boundaries a little take some extra balls, the grass is pretty tall in the spring. All in all one of my favorite courses.
The rain did well
Ive been playing bidwell for 3 years now and I must say this is the best condition I seen bidwell golf. You must play it soon. I played butte creek z weeks ago and I want to say the condition is up to par or slightly better at the moment. I know its hard to believe but you must play bidwell. Justen S.
Oldie and goodie
A well laid out course with lots of areas displaying great use of natural features.
Great Time
I came in to town to visit family for the holidays. I spent quality time with them and the next day I played at your course. I had a wonderful time meeting and playing with three new friends. The course was beautiful and somewhat challenging. I thoroughly enjoyed the play and I would recommend the course to friends and others. Thanks to Bob for his professionalism and kindness.
Best in Chico
It had been nearly 15 years since I played and could not recall much of the place. It is a good course. Good layout. Kept up well. And the Hot Deal was great. It was overcast and cool that day so I was blessed with great golf weather. The down side was it played ungodly slow that day. While waiting at the 12th, the group ahead of us claimed they play this course a lot and this was the worst they'd ever seen it. So it's possible the pace was somewhat of an anomaly as there was a youth tournament in the morning and it backed things up a bit. We started about 10-15 minutes later than our scheduled start and feared we would not complete 18. However, people did peel off the course and the final 3 holes took as long as it took to play one hole for the rest of the round and we did indeed finish just before it got too dark to play. I would return to this course again given the same deal just to see if the pace was the anomaly the other golfers claimed it was as I did enjoy the layout and it was in decent condition for a public course and the CA drought situation.
Greens needs work
Played Bidwell on 10/15/16 and the greens have dead spots throughout the greens making them bumpy. It looks like some kind of fungus killed spots of the greens. Tuscan Ridge's greens are in much better condition and that should say something. The good parts were that the fairways are in good condition. Lots of wildlife to see. This course can be very slow play, but it was raining and the course was empty.
Nice course
I have played this course a few times and liked it a lot. It's just challenging enough to make it fun. The only thing I was slightly annoyed with was paying full price for the recently cored greens.
Top public course
You really can't beat Bidwell for a public course. It has the top notch fairways nice greens (only wish faster greens) still nice though and canyon views, butte creek canyon runs through the back 9 It's a not to miss golf course if you are in the area period.
