About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Uneven Tee Box Surface
The overall course layout was not that bad. Although, the “Greens” were being aerated for the upcoming Spring. The staff personnel were very friendly and accommodating.
Beautiful weather!
Considering the amount of rain in previous weeks the course was in pretty good condition. Greens were a bit slow until later in the day when it dried up a little…overall a good day!
Very nice course.
I gave it fewer stars in some categories than it probably deserves but I was playing it after a few days of rain. I plan on returning many times when the weather turns dryer. Overall a pretty nice course. Good experience.

We loved playing this course and would absolutely play it again.
Sanded green and extremely slow play
There was an "aeration warning" when booking but did not say when it was aerated. It turned out that they aerated yesterday! All greens are covered with sand, barely playable. There are not a lot of people on the course, but the few groups that were on the course were extremely slow. They not only played slow, also walked slow, and not even offering to let us pass. We ended up mostly sitting in the cart behind the tee and watch these guys hit their tee shots 50 yards into the trees.
The greens were sandy that is all I d say. Great round for me
