Whispering Firs Golf Club
About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Beautiful Course
The pro-shop man working there, and then the day after him, need some Customer Service Skills. No Marshall on the course. The group in front of us had several holes open in front of them. We finally had to skip a hole and move in front of them. When I called the pro shop the same rude man told me there was no Marshall on the course, so it was up to me to approach the group. No good Customer service. The young gal that used to be there (I believe she was having a baby) was a delight. You need more like her!
Tight fairways, big tall "whispering firs" provide shade. Easy to walk.
Love this course. Not easy but not difficult if you hit it straight. Beware of "hack" golfers that can slow you down.
Good course. Some challenging holes.
I would recommend this course. Friendly staff. Easy to get to but allow 20 min. For security clearance.
This Course provided a great pace
Not sure if his course offers this pace of play all the time, but this was a great round with no one hitting into us and the course was in great shape which made for a great day of golf.
Great course at a great price.
Play here at least once a year. Course was in good shape. A few bare spots on some greens. Greens were slower than what I'm used too. Fairways and tee boxes were great. Lots of trees and plenty of challenges.
True parkland course for the ages!
If you are a fan of parkland courses built in the 1900's you will LOVE this track. Mature tree lined fairways, raised greens the size of postage stamps and strategically place bunkers add a dimension newer courses are brutally negligent in avoiding. The greens were a bit slow and the traps are in poor shape but I am a fan of the older courses so I'll definitely patronize this establishment in the future.
Getting into the airbase is somewhat difficult but once in you'll love this gem.
