Update to a previous review, I an upgrading my last review.
This course is under new ownership, and they are doing a fantastic job on the course.
This is an amazing course to play: The fairways are perfect, the greens are perfect, it's all around great!
I like that they reverted the starting holes back to the south side of the street like it was when the course first opened.
It will be much better when the pro shop gets more equipment, accessories, and clothes for sale.
I can't wait to go back here.
short fun course
Corse in good condition except bunkers. It's a short course but you have to put your ball at the right spot. It's well worth the money.
Just O.K. nothing more, nothing less
So this was my first time coming back to the course since it was apparently bought by a family. They are currently rebuilding the pro-shop and had bought brand new golf carts. However, food/bar is still terrible and the staff seem to not care. By staff I am talking about the kids who work around here who tend to chit-chat at the food area. The older gentlemen who helped us check in was more than friendly and accommodating.
The course itself was "ok". Difficult with hazards and sand but easy read greens. Nothing special and nothing worth praising or complaining about. Like I said just "ok". Went early in the morning and there was no one behind us or in front of us so we were able to take our time and enjoy ourselves.
Nice layout
Wild horse is a nice track. A little bit of a short course from the blue tees but don't let that fool you it plays tough. You have to pick your spots for sure. Water, dog legs, and WIND will cause for a more challenging round. Would definitely play again!
Improving under new Owner
The course was in pretty good shape, greens were receptive and rolled pretty true. Tee boxes were so hard it was difficult to get tee into ground!
New Owners are making tons of changes and improvements so things appear to be in flux right now, but for the money the course is a great value.
A Davis Classic
I had the pleasure of playing Wildhorse Golf Course in Davis Ca. Although my timing put me in a seasonably high wind period, I have to say my round was super fun. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the course was in excellent condition making my overall experience there a wonderful time and in my option an excellent venue. Great value, Wildhorse is worth anyones time. Word of advice, check the local weather first as a head wind can increase the difficulty of a few holes 10 fold.
Windy, but great day
Played here and had a 6:40 am tee time. It appears that they are under new ownership and that they are doing some construction on the clubhouse to rearrange things up a bit. The man at the counter seemed very friendly and was very eager to get us out on the course. We didn't have any one in front of use and he was very kind to let us start whenever we were ready. The fairways were in great condition and the course was in the best shape that I've seen it. Due to the windy conditions of the day, I had a rough time out , but had a couple holes to write home about - birdie on Hole 11 and a long 220 yd 5 Wood shot on Hole 14 that shocked the daylights out of me . The windy conditions made a couple of the holes messy with a few scattered leaves and stuff on some of the greens (Hole 2 and 7). Aside from that, I look forward to playing here again soon, this course is well maintained and well kept.
A little stacked up
Course is in great shape. Had a great time and will be back.
Course is great, too bad the amenities are so bad
This course is in fantastic shape after all of the rain. Fun round on a great track. Unfortunately the course amenities are a joke...whoever owns the course doesn't care about the dumpy restaurant, pro shop, driving range, or non-existent beverage cart. The staff that the ownership actually has workin is great so I don't want my review to reflect poorly on them...the few guys working are hustling!
Good course but unfriendly staff
I don't really make a reviews or comments on all the golf courses we played but our experience this time with a staff (at least the one on the pro shop who checked us in at that time) was not good. I'd start with the golf course. Good course. Played here a couple times before. They reverse the course, the front nine became the back nine and the back nine became the the front. That was no problem still thr course is in good shape. The first two times we played here, the staff in the pro shop who checked us in was friendly. We played yesterday and the staff who checked us in was not friendly at all. I was talking to him and he's on his phone, txting or whatever he was doing while talking to me. Rude!
Over all the golf course in good shape. Just that experienced in the pro shop that didn't make me happy.
So so
First thing I think when walking in is this place needs some work. A lot of work. When you enter the front door you have to walk trough a puddle because the roof leaks there. Then when you go inside you can tell its disorganized. When I got to the counter I had to wait 10 min while the guy behind the bar just stared at me awkwardly. When you get to the range the matts are toast. Maybe 2 okay matts. They have a covered practice area but the tents are ripped and provide no rain or sun protection. This gets us to the balls. somstimes they give you a coin but have no balls and you have to wait an hour. The balls themselves are the WORST!. They ruin your clubs. Do not use new clubs on their range. The putting green by the shop is always closed with a ugly cardboard sharpie sign. And has huge lines cut down it. Their other large putting green is nice but they allow ucdavis to use it so it's always taken up. Paying people have no room. Now the corse. They give you a tee time then allow you to go off whenever. (No PA system). So the first tee gets bunched up. Plus people don't seem to know how to fix divots.
Awesome!!
This course was so awesome!!! I had a great time playing here. Conditions were an A+, especially for the time of year and all this rain! I will definitely return! Worth the money and drive!!
Slow and not well maintained
I booked my time on Golf Now and paid my convenience fee. When I arrived to check in, there was no reservation with my name. Luckily I had printed out my receipt or I would not have gotten on because it was booked up all day.
My start time was to be 8:26 a.m. but was told that I am being bumped to 8:45. I finally teed off at 8:55 behind some slow players.
The course was in decent shape, but I've seen it in better conditions. It's been 2 years since I last played this course.
There is only 1 Porta potty on the course too, they need more.
When we were on the 11th tee, the Marshall said that I needed to turn my cart in and ride with someone else in my foursome.
Back up to tee time, the staff put 4 of us singles together, we were all in separate carts ( That we paid for, they are not free), he said they were out of carts and needed more. So I went to the cart return and dropped off my cart along with 25 others. The cart I was in was slow and powerless, it did not have enough power to get up the little hills on this course.
HOW CAN YOU TELL ME TO TURN MY CART IN AFTER I'VE ALREADY PAID FOR IT? I THINK YOU OWE ME FREE ROUND OR A REFUND.
The Marshall should have been out telling these slower players to pick up the pace, they were way to slow.
Now for the clubhouse, it has moved out of its big open area into a small corner of the restaurant ( if you want to call it a restaurant, it's really a bar with a few tables.)
There is very little merchandise, as in only a few balls, clubs, and shirts. It's so small that there is almost no room to stand in here. The kid behind the counter was friendly, he did good seeing how busy he was.
Overall, I am disappointed in this course. You pay premium money for a mediocre place.
I would rather spend my money at many other course that are better and less expensive.
Sorry WH, you were much better in the past, you've just been mismanaged in my opinion.
I STILL FEEL THAT YOU OWE ME A REFUND OR A FREE ROUND HERE.
If you read my course reviews, you will see that I always have positive and honest reviews. This is the first time that I have been unhappy.
Monday not the best
I've played here a number of times and it's typically enjoyable. I played here the day after a decent amount of rain and the course was pretty soggy and traps had a lot of standing water. There were two of us playing and it took over five hours to play. The marshall came by a number of times and told us we were behind a known "monday group" that has a 91 year old still on oxygen. Good for him for keeping the game going, but a play-through or some kind of courtesy notice would have been much appreciated. To accommodate the golfer, his partner drove the cart to the edge and sometimes ON the green. Left us with some unusual green strokes as we followed. Typically a decent course, but the whole experience left a bad taste in the mouth. Plenty of other local courses to play at their price, probably won't return.
Wilhoarse
Carts were dirty, gps was backward, ball cleaners were not kept up. For 50 bucks a round I sure won't be playing there again!!!
Too many divots throughout course
If you are just looking to hit a golf ball then wild horse might be a great place for you. If you don't mind hardpan sand traps then Wildhorse might be a great course for you. They have rerouted the entire course. It would be highly recommended to have a cart and in the cart have someone who has played before. Will not play course again and good luck to all who attempt.
Disappointed buddy's
All my friends were disappointed because the greens were aerated and we werent told about that they said they would've picked another course o felt embarrassed and might be second guessed next time I try to book
Just my two pesos
Staff and course access are great for me. I play right after work with no problem usually and with little hold up due to other golfers on the course. Wish the bunkers had more sand as about 90% of them are like hitting off a hard pan surface. Carts could use an upgrade especially since I had to walk my last 7 holes after using two different carts that ran out of juice. I will continue to play here due to the price and location.
The cart I rented ran out of power too.
What GPS?
My dirty slow cart didn't have GPS.
Unless you mean the GolfNow GPS, yes that was wrong on mine too.
