DeBary Golf & Country Club

About
DeBary Golf & Country Club, a Lloyd Clifton-designed course sits on hilly land. The layout is fascinating. No two holes feel similar. Only two holes have water, but there is significant sand. Dense woods of pine and evergreen border the fairways. The rolling fairways and natural layout give the golf course a Carolinas feel. The par 5s are all in the 500- to 550-yard range. The par 3s are all approximately the same distance, running 180 to 190 yards from the back tees, and 150 to 160 yards from the white tees. DeBary is one of the few Clifton golf courses that do not top out at more than 7,000 yards.

Gonna Hold Off Playing There Fot Awhile
Rough Shape
Tees about gone
Driving Range Horrible
Will be years before I go back
Downhill
Course has been in a state of decline for sum time now. Former member. Could not continue to bring friends out to play. Tough track. No fairway or tee box grass to speak of. Most golfers expect to find grass on course. Driving range is a great example of attention to detail. Looks like a desert. Scary how the course has been allowed to decline. Should be a $25 course the way the have destroyed the course. Traps have all been redone by novices. Unplayable from fairways. True travessy what has gone on. See for your self.
Enjoyable round
Course was a little rough compared to the last time we played here. It is understandable considering the draught. Greens were still a little bumpy in some areas after being punched a few weeks back but were in decent shape. We had to seek shelter for over an hour due to lightning strikes near by but were able to finish the round right before dark as the ranger was considerate of the situation. Great staff. Will return
Friendly and helpful staff.
My brother and I enjoy playing this course. Challenging slope ratings and a very friendly staff makes for an enjoyable outing.
Gotten worse
De Barry was pure a couple months ago but it definitely needs some help at the moment. Tee boxes are shot, a lot of crab grass lies around the green. Punched greens. Had a lot of fun! Not worth $73 right now though!
Challenging Test…Rough Shape
I’ve played DeBary many times and couldn’t be more disappointed in how it looked during our round. Tee boxes and fairways were terrible. Greens were recently punched, so they get a pass, but it would have been great if it was mentioned PRIOR to play. Some will discount the round because of it…not DeBary. Really disappointed as I have enjoyed playing this track in the past as it’s a good test, but they need to get it back in shape if they want me as a return customer.
Great bones but too tight
I lost 7 brand new Prov1's off tbe t-boxes. Absolutely zero chance to find balls on edges of property. I wish I were more accurate to meet the very challenging layout. Meant for low handicappers- 15 or less.
Best value in Central Florida
Great layout, fun but challenging track. Held up well even through a pre-round downpour. Elevation changes are a welcome site as they are very hard to find in/around Orlando area
Used To Be Better
About 10 years back this was a great course. Give it a try if you want to understand. Maybe someday it will come back.
Good Golf Course
The golf course was in decent condition. Especially for as dry as it’s been the last two months. I like the work they’re doing to the course and the drainage they’re putting in. It’s kind of an eye sore for now but once it’s finished, it should make for much better playing conditions during the rainy season. It’s nice to see a golfing, organization taking pride in their golf course. So many other courses in the area could learn from this. Deltona club for one.
Enjoyable course lay out
Played yesterday by myself in 2-1/2 hours, 1PM-3:30PM. Course is dry due to the hot dry weather, but fairways and greens where in pretty good shape, very firm fairways giving extra roll on your drives. Mid-Iron shots to center of greens will bounce to the back, but are very controllable with your wedges. Had 3 three putts (unusual for me) due to dry fast greens, especially downhill, but that's to be expected this time of year.
I recommend playing this course. I will be back again soon.
Very dry
The course is extremely dry. The fairways are in very bad shape. The greens are good however. Hard and fast.
Great track, but needs water and some recovery.
While I thought Debary Golf & Country Club was a pretty enjoyable course, I had some serious issues with the condition of the grounds. In my opinion, the fairways were way too dry, and there were far too many repairs in progress. On top of that, the greens played very slow, which I found off-putting.
Good
The fairways are a little thin at the moment, but should come back once the rain starts. The greens were pretty good and fast. They are always working on the golf course, which is nice. They are actively trying to work on a better drainage system to prevent flooding, during extreme rain periods. The course is always busy and is a challenging course so it does get backed up once in a while.
Space out the tee times
A friend and I played yesterday at 9:40am. We were just a twosome and we were behind a foursome and in front of a threesome. The pace was going well, finished the first 8 holes in well under 2 hours. While we were in the fairway on our 9th hole and waiting for the green to clear, the guys behind us decided to hit into us which was very unnerving. We let it go and moved on and by the 12th hole they were right on our tail again even though we couldn’t go anywhere as there was a foursome in front of us. I was afraid they might hit into us again so I told them to just go by and they did. The threesome that was following them got out and asked us what was going on because they were following those other three guys. I told them I let them go by and that group didn’t seem pleased with that. We all ended up waiting on pretty much every hole for the rest of the round. On 18 we had another ball roll up to our cart from the group behind us. When we left, the parking lot was pretty much empty and I only spotted one group on the course on my way out. Golf courses in general need to stop packing as many times as possible onto the tee sheet. 8 minutes between times is ridiculous and you just end up with a log jam of 3 or 4 groups of unhappy people. It made what started out as a great round into a conflict ridden and anxious sprint to the finish. I love the course. I play there often and they do a great job of keeping it maintained and making improvements. I used to be a member there but quit due to there just being too many people on the course at once. I know golf courses need to make money, but space it out better on the slow days when the snow birds are gone and the locals are looking for a nice round.
