DeBary Golf & Country Club

About
DeBary Golf & Country Club, a Lloyd Clifton-designed course sits on hilly land. The layout is fascinating. No two holes feel similar. Only two holes have water, but there is significant sand. Dense woods of pine and evergreen border the fairways. The rolling fairways and natural layout give the golf course a Carolinas feel. The par 5s are all in the 500- to 550-yard range. The par 3s are all approximately the same distance, running 180 to 190 yards from the back tees, and 150 to 160 yards from the white tees. DeBary is one of the few Clifton golf courses that do not top out at more than 7,000 yards.

FAAAAST Greens
First time playing this course and found it to be both fun and challenging. Not quite understanding the bad reviews about course conditions.. yes , may be a tad dried out in places and the greens may not look pretty but man are they rolling smooth and fast! Considering the outrageous prices we have seen for golf on this trip.. it’s totally worth it for the hoi polloi! Would def play again!
Course in poor conditions
Greens thin and bumpy
Fairways rough and thin
T boxes no grass
For $70 not a great course …. More like a city course
Better places elsewhere
Course conditions were not the best, some cx work around the clubhouse and driving range. Went out after a scramble tourney which caused the round to be slow. Played with a rude local -member who constantly played out of turn from tee to green
Rate High For Condition
Staff is excellent at this challenging but (usually) fun and fair course. That said, the course conditions did not meet the expectations of the higher $74 rate. Greens (typically in great shape), were nowhere near it. A few holes had ridiculous (and somewhat unplayable) pin placement. I will definitely play this course again, when the course condition justifies the cost and the pins get placed by someone who actually plays golf.
Perfect Day
It was a perfect day to golf and the course was in excellent condition. The greens were fast and layout is a challenge for average golfers. I will play again.
Too much walking
Great course except a lot of roped off areas. I have some disabilities and had to walk way too much.
Always a Good Choice
DeBary Golf & CC is a wonderfully designed and tended golf course. Prone in the past to collect standing water after heavy rains, improvements have been made and the course drains and dries out pretty quickly now. Subtle elevation changes on the greens and strategically placed bunkers challenge players at all levels. It’s a beautiful layout winding between homes in several neighborhoods. Good food and beverage is available in the restaurant and the grill at the turn. All of the golf course staff and other service staff are very helpful and kind.
Nice course!
Nice course. Tee boxes and fairways were in decent shape. Nice greens, perfect speed amd nice undulations throughout the course. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
Everything Great Except For Ranger
This course is well maintained and has a nice layout. Made our tee time on golf now and when we got to the starter he told us our tee time was 8 minutes later. The tee time was further delayed because there was a group of men that have a weekly skins game. Not a very big deal. My real complaint was the over exuberant ranger. We were a foursome 2 men, 2 women. We were at least a hole and a half bin n ahead of the group in back of us. He approached my wife and her friend (who play better then most men) and proceeds to tells them they are playing too slow. He did not have the nerve to come over and tell my friend and I. So I called him over and asked him why he’s telling us to hurry up when there is no group in back of us. He said to us he’s going to go back there and tell the groups to hurry as well. He continued to check up on us during the remainder of our golf game. We never saw the other groups for the remainder of the round and they were at least two holes behind us when we finished the 18th hole. We finished the round in Four hours and fifteen minutes. Because of the Ranger our wives have no desire to play at DeBary anymore. This is at least the second review that I’ve seen where people have complained about this ranger.
Love the golf course BUT
I would reconsider to play on Wednesdays if I knew it's members day. We were following men's skin tournament allowing 5 players on fairway.
Over Zealous Ranger
Overall - this is a great course - I've been playing it for years.
It's in good shape - and worth playing.
My only negative complaint is that the ranger (and it's nice that they have one) asked us, rather impolitely, to 'move along' as we played the par 3 7th. There was nobody pushing us - we MAY have been a half hole behind - but certainly no issues.
Later on in the round - when WE were waiting - he drove by us again and wouldn't even look at us.
OK - I'm done venting. We played in under 4 hours - not sure what this dudes problem was.
Awesome Course!
🏞️ Course Review: DeBary Country Club 🏞️
Recently, I had the pleasure of teeing off at DeBary Country Club. This course offers a thrilling challenge with tight fairways lined with unforgiving out-of-bounds areas. In other words, precision is your best friend off the tee. Don’t be afraid to swap your driver for an iron or wood to ensure you stay in the fairway.
⛳ Course Conditions: The course was in pretty good shape. The greens, while a bit slower than some I’ve played, were true and pure, providing an enjoyable putting experience. You’ll notice some variation in green sizes, most being smaller but some very large greens on 9 and 18. However, the fairways were as hard as a rock. While great for those booming drives, they made playing wedges a real challenge. Every wedge shot felt like it was bouncing off concrete.
⛳ Standout Hole: Hole 15 (Picture 2) left a lasting impression. This short 340-yard par 4 demands a near-perfect tee shot to have any hope of reaching the green. The design of this hole is truly remarkable, with two massive, overhanging trees strategically placed in the middle of the fairway, leaving only a narrow gap for your approach shot. It’s a golfer’s puzzle that will keep you coming back for more.
🌊 Course Features: DeBary Country Club isn’t about water hazards, but rather the course’s undulating terrain. It adds an extra layer of challenge to your round.
If you’re looking for a course that will test your precision and strategy, DeBary Country Club is worth a visit. However, be prepared to say “sayonara” to some golf balls if you’re not on your A-game.
