Great layout and challenging
Great course to play and the layout is awesome! The sand traps could be better maintained
The bunkers are the only downside
I really like almost everything about this course. However, most of the bunkers are like concrete, mostly damp clay. If that was ever to get fixed, this is a fabulous course. As is, it is very good.
First group of the day held everyone up
Had the ranger out twice but still backed up course
Great course
This is a great course in good condition. Greens were faster than previous rounds this year. Still some bunkers that need work but overall very nice.
INCREDIBLE!
This is the second time I played here. The first time I played it I was shocked that I did not hear more rave reviews. I have played every high-end public course in Chicagoland, and this is at the top of my top three. This is a beautiful, classic, no-frills tournament-style course. It is not a course that looks hard but really isn't. This course is very hard and has green complexes that are exciting & extremely difficult to manage. You can hit every green in regulation and walk away with an 80! The greens ran an easy 12 when we played, and it plays very long! LOVE IT!
Rude staff : biased staff
The Dunn is an absolutely amazing course the pace of play is great the course is beautiful. The problem is the staff. I’m not sure if it’s a racial thing but this is my neighborhood course. I’m a front line healthcare worker and I play golf for relaxation. Yet everytime we visit the Dunn we feel rushed. There was a foursome in front of me and a group directly behind us. The Marshall pulls up on us and says the group behind us is complaining that they can’t tee off yet they can see we are held up. We played from the golds and are both pretty strong and accurate on our t offs. The Marshall decides to sit and wait with us to watch and see how quickly we play the golf and said yeah you are making good time. This has happened on several occasions which takes away the peacefulness of the round. We are not gamblers we play the game for the game and pay good money to enjoy our time and should not have to feel rushed.
Wonderful Layout. Great Beauty.
This is a Beautiful Hidden gem . Played it every weekend when it opened in 1982. For 3 years straight.
A little beat up
Played on a Sunday afternoon. 4:40 for 18 so not bad, all things considered. Bunkers are essentially rock and unplayable. Several greens/fairways under repair. The greens keeper must have been in a terrible mood as some pins were on the side of a slope.
Overall, course remains difficult and challenging, but for the greens fees, I would have expected that there would be some sand in the bunkers
Hidden Gem
I will be back. The course was long, well manicured, and challenging. It was CPO when it hadn’t rained which always sucks, but I know they have their reasons so it is what it is. I will be back…very soon!
Too much money!! Terrible bunkers
For the money that’s being charged the bunkers are absolutely horrible! Every hole is surrounded by bunkers and everyone is in terrible shape! If your going to charged this kind of money to play! Put the money back into the course especially the bunkers! This could be one of the best courses in Illinois if they just really make the bunkers playable!
Mixed Emotions
It has been 20 years since I last player GDN. Pre Troom managed at the time but several issues remain today. Crazy Dick Nugent design with hundreds of traps.........none groomed hard as a rock. Double thick rough and club championship pin locations made this a tough day. Beautiful track that needs a bit of love.
Poor course condition and slow play made for a challenging day
I typically enjoy playing George Dunne very much.
I was disappointed to find the course condition in very poor shape. The bunker on the first hole had not been raked in a long time and the top of the dirt, not sand, was like concrete. Unfortunately many of the bunkers were in the same condition and unplayable. The rough around the fairways and greens were either too long where it was impossible to hit out of it without pulling your club head, or too short where the ground was like cement.
To top it off, the course was backed up and we waited on every hole. Our round on a Thursday afternoon was over 5-hours.
I don’t think I will be coming back until I read reviews stating the course conditions are much improved and back to their old quality standards.
