Hidden Gem
I will be back. The course was long, well manicured, and challenging. It was CPO when it hadn’t rained which always sucks, but I know they have their reasons so it is what it is. I will be back…very soon!
Too much money!! Terrible bunkers
For the money that’s being charged the bunkers are absolutely horrible! Every hole is surrounded by bunkers and everyone is in terrible shape! If your going to charged this kind of money to play! Put the money back into the course especially the bunkers! This could be one of the best courses in Illinois if they just really make the bunkers playable!
Mixed Emotions
It has been 20 years since I last player GDN. Pre Troom managed at the time but several issues remain today. Crazy Dick Nugent design with hundreds of traps.........none groomed hard as a rock. Double thick rough and club championship pin locations made this a tough day. Beautiful track that needs a bit of love.
Poor course condition and slow play made for a challenging day
I typically enjoy playing George Dunne very much.
I was disappointed to find the course condition in very poor shape. The bunker on the first hole had not been raked in a long time and the top of the dirt, not sand, was like concrete. Unfortunately many of the bunkers were in the same condition and unplayable. The rough around the fairways and greens were either too long where it was impossible to hit out of it without pulling your club head, or too short where the ground was like cement.
To top it off, the course was backed up and we waited on every hole. Our round on a Thursday afternoon was over 5-hours.
I don’t think I will be coming back until I read reviews stating the course conditions are much improved and back to their old quality standards.
George Dunn 8/19
Great course! Excellent layout and rate of play. Conditions were awesome except for most sand traps being rock hard (although we’re in a drought). The twilight rate I got from Golf Now was great and worth every penny.
Great course! Bad traps
Been playing this for years. Terrific layout and course in good condition “Except the Traps”. Many just clay. Course needs probably 800-1000 new truck loads of sand.
Fun course, good value, bad bunkers
I play here alot, one of my favorite local tracks. Challenging course , no homes. Bunkers at brutal, rarely maintained. Rock hard sand and rocks, pebbles. Just take a drop.
Sand Traps Are Terrible
The course and layout are beautiful but I won’t play again till they redo the traps. It rained the day before and every trap was a mini lake. Very frustrating
Sandless traps
I’m what’s called a P&P (practice and play), customer it’s really a nice deal the only problem is that when we play there you’re treated as if they’re always doing you a favor. I don’t understand why have a program if you really don’t want us to play there. From 1:30 to 3:00 the course is wide open but p&p can’t play until 3 which usually is all booked after 3. Anyways sand traps are really really bad but course layout is really nice and challenging for all skill levels
Beautiful course
Have been playing this course for several years. The greens are in excellent condition and playing fast. Fairways are in good shape. Only a couple of holes where the ground water has saturated the turf. The big disappointment is in the bunkers. Around half of them are mud. It looks like the grounds crew is hard at work to restore them but for now the bunkers are unplayable.
Great course and very demanding
I was in college when George Dunne opened, “ Forest Preserve National “ back in the day. Course continues to be the top shelf of the Cook County Forest Preserve courses. Awesome layout, meticulously manicured greens, fairways and tees. Bunkers are abundant, cavernous and deep, they are lacking sand, one large criticism of the course. Other than that, a great day on the golf course. Played on a Tuesday at 12:00. Done in 3 hours. Good practice facility, cart person was around every 30 minutes, so life was great. Holes I hit it where I was looking also looked great on the score card, when I didn’t, got what I deserved. Highly recommend getting out to George Dunne. Bring enough gold balls!
Beautiful as always
Was lucky enough to play on a warm sunny day without much wind. The greens are very firm and fast. The course was in excellent shape considering heavy rainfalls for the week prior. Only real downfall was the bunkers. You were playing out of mud.
