Hidden Beauty in Charleston

I have played a lot of courses in Charleston and I must say this one was worth the drive. Beautiful conditions, great value and the GPS was amazing. Would have been very difficult to play the course without the GPS as there is a lot of water and sand traps.

Rainy day turned beautiful

Very nice experience. Cart GPS system did not start working until 3rd hole, but was welcome! Lots of water hazards on this course, and some of the hazards have hazards!!! Watch out for the gators. Gator in photo crawled under my cart.

Great Place to Play

Played this course twice this week. Greens have been recently dressed and are in great shape. Challenging course. Every hole is interesting. Very good GPS system shows you exactly how far to each hazard, bunker or water. Makes it easier for those that are playing for the first time. Staff was very nice and they have a nice grill with good food. Very nice day. My son and I played in 3 hours during the week, so pace of play was great. Definitely will be coming back.

beautiful course

Lots of alligators. My wife rode along and enjoyed all the flora and fauna. The live oaks were amazing. Probably in the top 10th percentile in terms of natural beauty.

Also, every tee box, fairway, and green were completely full of grass, and I saw almost no weeds anywhere. Very well kept course.

plenty of water and traps

Though I paid up front at Last Minute Golfer, it was not reflected as such at the Pro Shop. They ended up letting me play anyway without further charged.

New greens review

The long awaited return to one of my favorite courses. Have not been back since the blight last year.
These new zoysia greens are:
-easy
-slow
-straight (no break)
-impossible to dent (if you use your divot tool, it will bend)
-gorge (stunningly perfect, except for a 4"x4" bare spot on one green)
I dont remember this course being in better shape ever. I have never played zoysia greens before, so I dont know if it will remain slow. I am a high handicapper, so I thoroughly enjoyed the easier playable greens. I think I only 3 putted 2 greens, which makes me smile.

Greens have completely turned around

I've played out there once a week for the past month and have really seen the greens improve over time. Yes, at one point the greens were unputtable, but that was because they completely changed their greens back in April, I believe. I last played on 7/8 and the greens are about 90% and putting almost perfectly. They are a little slow, but they putt true. Not a whole lot of break in the putts, so there are tons of birdie opportunities to be had. I plan on playing there tomorrow, 7/15, and I expect the greens to be at 100% and I can't wait.... Heeerrreeee birdie birdie birdie! Awesome layout, light rough, manicured fairways, and some of the best and easiest greens in Charleston.. I give this course two thumbs up!

beautiful fairways and surrounding wildlife

A great course except the people mowing were not courteous at all. Greens could be cut shorter for best putting. All in all a good golf course.

The new greens are rolling great. Nice improvement. The fairways are equally plush and easy to hit off of as well.

9 Holes

It is nice that Legend Oaks offers a 9 hole rate. I found it interesting that the PGA was touting a 9 hole concept during the open; it makes a lot of sense given the reason many people have given up the game is the time commitment.

The course has a nice layout, however the greens are really shaggy. May be because they have recently been aerated (2 weeks ago?), but they were un-puttable.

greens are coming around

As mentioned in other reviews, the greens are still coming in. They are extremely slow on the front, not as bad on the back but still pretty slow. Most still have visible seams but that doesn't affect the putting much, the slow speed is the biggest problem. Once they come in fully and are able to be maintained in a normal fashion, I would say they will be pretty good. The rest of the course is in very good shape and a little course knowledge goes a long way here. Several holes require a specific distance off the tee, can't just grip it and rip it as far as you want or you will be through the fairway. The GPS on the cart helps a lot with this, very nice large display with all hazards and important distances marked. I still used my laser rangefinder for distance to the pin, but the GPS was invaluable off the tee since this was my first round here. I'll give the greens another month before I return, but I definitely will be back.

Don't Waste Your Money

The layout of the course is nice. But the greens were replaced a few months ago by an obvious amateur who had no experience in golf greens. It appeared as though a landscaper and not a golf course greens expert did the greens. The second issue was the maintenance crews. They need to train the maintenance crews on the mowers proper etiquette. One guy was riding down the middle of the fairway, turned around and stopped in the middle of the landing area. Another was running a mower back a forth next to a tee box. The last issue was safety. Non-golfers, mostly children, were walking around the course, riding bikes, skate boards, etc. And heavy lightning was in the area but no alarm from the club house. I was standing on 14th tee and lightning strike very near me. I headed for the clubhouse but people were still playing on every hole. I wont' be playing here again for a long time.

GREENS HAVE BEEN REPLACED

The greens on all 18 holes have been replaced in pieces. They are lumpy and have lines of sharp sand down the connected areas where the sod bumps into each other. They need at least 45 days from May 21, which is the day I played. I paid 20 bucks to play, and on this web site (Golf Now) as well as at the coarse, it does not list nor did anyone say, the greens are still under repair or have been replaced. Do not play this course until the greens recover. Call the course to confirm this before booking your tee time.

Greens are horrible

This course has a very nice layout. Fairly challenging, with lots of water, several doglegs and strategically positioned trees. However, the greens were redone a couple of months ago and are still in horrible shape. They are as bumpy as an egg carton.
