The stunning fourth. Tricky, strategic and exhilarating. Yet fatal on the left side. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 04/23/2021

Eight. Bold 3-par of 204. You’ll need a fine tee shot to keep the wolf at the door. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 04/23/2021

Eleven. Solid tee-to-green test. Hitting and putting this green are the keys. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 04/23/2021

Thirteen: Wedging into a green pared down to essentials: a frontal bunker, a narrowing surface, then a big backside falloff. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 04/23/2021

Sixteen. Dr. Hurdzan’s greens resemble those of Donald Ross: crafted, meticulous, well-contoured. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 04/23/2021

Eighteen. #2 index. Problems galore. As at all par-5’s here, playing the angles well may save you from disaster. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 04/23/2021

Pilgrims oak
Very nice course. Every hole is a challenge. Greens, tees and fairways in great shape. We love the course
One of the best in the state
I’ve played here several times over the last year and it’s been incredible. I like to venture around and try as many courses as possible but I’m never ceased to be blown away by this one. Conditions are always stellar especially the greens (except for #3 probably due to it being a wet part of the course). Very little divet marks, and they roll fast. The layout isn’t super hard, but still challenging enough to always keep you on your toes. It also helps that they have one of the fairest pricing around. Especially for what you’re getting.
The one downside is on weekdays the grounds crew will be all over the course.but its not the worst thing in the world but can occasionally be distracting on certain shots. But to keep the course looking as good as it does, I totally understand.
I’d reccomend every to come out to play here. No matter what handicap. It will keep lower handicappers challenged, but will be forgiving enough for higher ones to play well. If you’re looking for a great time, please get out there!
Great Day on the Farm
Greens and Fairways great shape bunkers suffering from recent heavy rains but being repaired. Pace was good 4 hrs for the round.. Nice elevation changes.
Too bad it's so far from home.
Played here a few times over the years and it never disappoints. Too bad it's a dry township so bring your own beer or whatever. Very hot the day we played so staying in shade as much as possible helped. Conditions are always good here and you will hit every club in your bag as each hole has great character.
Short course with some very nice holes.
Front nine is short with a few par 3's but back nine is much longer with two par 5's. I have to say, we played from the back tee's and hole number 9 from those tee's will intimidate anyone. Overall, both my buddy and I liked the course.
Never Disappoints!
Course is always in good shape... never too crowded in afternoon... high quality golf course
Super Value
Great Day. Tough pin placements, greens were perfect.
Golf at Its Finest
Pilgrim’s Oak Golf Course, a must-play venue for serious golfers who live nearby or are visiting the area, makes the most of its pastoral setting. Designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and opened in 1996, the course serves up a mix of open spaces and tighter ones, all testing your strategic skills and golfing patience by virtue of eighteen well-contoured and varying holes. It is no pushover from any set of tees, and maxes out at 6,766 yards from the blacks, sloping at 135. My son and I played it from the blues, and we were constantly impressed with its array of problems, such that seemingly every shot played to the cup (on most holes) demanded skill.
The course begins with a trio of excellent par-fours, all with significant elevation changes from tee to green, and culminating with the picture-postcard third hole. This is a downhill affair, dramatically dropping from the tee, a tee on which many golfers will not opt to choose driver because a small brook meanders across the fairway some 100 yards from the green. Hooked drives here will disappear ingloriously into the left-side woods, while a lone, tall tree intrudes on the right side of the fairway, perhaps enough to play havoc with most mis-struck tee shots wandering too far right.
A fairly routine and short par-three follows, and then it is on to a stretch of holes—five through nine—that toughen almost consecutively, as Dr. Hurdzan seems to have thought, correctly I would say, that upping the ante would make things that much more interesting as one’s round progresses. The fifth hole’s green is, for starters, strongly tilted, even though, thankfully, you’ll likely need to fly only a short iron or wedge into it. Three-putting on this surface is a distinct possibility. The sixth hole is a medium-length but spectacularly-plotted par-five that will nonetheless be reached in three shots by most. Fueled by a monstrous tee-shot, the aggressive player may gun for this surface in two, but there is the little matter of a sizeable pond, short and right of the green, that must be negotiated. What further complicates matters over the last one hundred yards are a slightly offset fairway skirting that pond, some bunkers, and a large, tiered green backed by large mounds. Hole seven will strenuously test your long game, both from the tee and then on what promises to be a longish approach, as this hole tips out at 423 yards. More specifically, your drive must traverse a sizeable water hazard, while the two-tiered green will call, likely, for a deft touch with the short stick.
Suffice it to say that the next hole, eight, is an outstanding par three. It calls for a mid to long iron/hybrid to a downhill target well-guarded by a crossing stream and by trees on either of its sides, all prominently in play and ready to gobble up mishit approaches. Not to be outdone, really, by its predecessor, hole number nine easily qualifies as the brawniest par-five on the course. It fills the bill as that sort of number-one handicap hole which will test one’s resolve and golfing perseverance, its fairway rising dramatically upward and lined by, most prominently, bunkers and by trees on each side. The ninth green is protected by its raised contours and a lone bunker on its right/front side. This hole may appear rather open, but here things may get ugly, quickly, after any erring shot played on the way into the dance floor.
After braving these five tough holes (or enduring a figurative thrashing from them) most golfers will want a breather, and the back nine’s opening hole provides one: here is a straightaway, straightforward, short par-four.
The reprieve lasts just this long, however, for it is on to eleven, a mid-length but essentially straight uphill par-four that is arguably the best one on Pilgrim Oak’s back side. The drive must be well placed and preferably long, because one doesn’t want to be positioned too far, hitting the approach, from a green perched well above the fairway and surrounded by woods. Hole twelve is a stunningly handsome and stonewall-fronted, woodland and water-guarded par-three that had me reaching for a camera. It is a hole that may even exceed number eight for beauty and challenge. Here, a precisely-struck mid-iron (or so) is generally needed to hit the surface, allowing escape from a variety of unpleasant greenside destinations. Hole thirteen may be on the short side for a par four, but it still possesses trouble, most notably around and on the green. This theme continues on holes fourteen through sixteen, yet in combination these holes generally present a more sporting and forgiving stretch than what has come before; collectively they may allow the golfer to focus more on making pars or birdies rather than avoiding bogies. Seventeen, too, can be birdied, yet your tee shot must be quite accurate on this fine and cleverly protected par-three.
Eighteen punctuates Pilgrim’s Oak with an exclamation point. Though not especially lengthy, this menacing par-five rises gradually over its full length to a well-defended and sloping green, narrow in the front and guarded on its right flank by water. Your journey to the putting surface will be endangered mainly by this long, greenside pond, after, that is, you have managed to dodge the other, even larger water hazard on the left-hand side of the driving zone. Extreme caution—meaning careful placement of each shot—is required to negotiate the eighteenth, a hole that also features several bunkers to skirt on your way home.
Tee Boxes could use work
The whole course is fantastic, by far my favorite to play. However, whenever I go the tee boxes are always torn up. They definitely need to be filled it.
Great Value
Excellent all the way around. Could not ask for a better day or course to play.
Great Layout, friendly staff
Course was in good shape, very windy , pace of play was good.
Love the course, putting is a challenge
The course is forgiving here and there, does not require laser straight shots to exact distances.
The putting on the other hand is challenging even for the best.
My favorite “local” course
Pilgrims is about 35 minutes from me. I have three courses within 20 minutes. This is hands down worth the drive. The conditions are far better. Staff is always friendly. I really enjoy the layout, some tough blind shots, thinkers for par threes with change in elevations. Not overwhelmed with water. I highly recommend this course, from beginner to experienced. Can not beat the value. I love this course.
Never disappointed
It takes an hour for me to get to Pilgrim’s oak. I’m usually happy paying full rate there. So catching a deal for about $1 a hole, no brainer. Course looks great, plays well, and the green are rolling nice. As my review is tilted, Pilgrim’s oak never disappoints.
