Great Day At Stonebridge Photo submitted by Brian9256097 on 04/17/2018
Nice course
Always well kept and has quite a few challenges to test and grow your skills.
Nice layout but not well maintained
We had fun yesterday but the course is rough. Greens are poor, rough outside of fairway need to be cut. Fairway has many weedy patches and mud. Many sand traps are hard and have weeds growing in them. No rakes! We are not lively to go back
Terrible Greens
This course is in a nice neighborhood. The staff is super friendly and down to earth. The few locals I spoke with seem very nice. The layout is nice, but the greens are terrible. They were thatchy, bumpy, grainy. They were putting money into the clubhouse that should have been spent on a greenskeeper that knows greens. Could be a nice course for New Orleans visitors to come play but with greens that bad, save your $ or spend a little extra and go play English Turn. Members should demand better greens. Course has too much promise for greens to be so bad.
Wow, in a bad way
On arrival they said the back nine was closing so we could either play the front twice or the front and short nine. But still pay full price. Teed off early to avoid problem but the course was in terrible condition - big bald spots, huge weed areas, washboarded greens - course blamed it on snow damage. The bar is fine but don't believe the good reviews of the course, at least for this spring.
Disappointing
When we arrived we were informed that the front nine was closed so we had to play the back and the par 33 Harvey Nine. Greens were sandy and bumpy. Fairways were long.
Carts and greens
The carts appear to have never been washed or cleaned. They are dirty all the time. Trash cigarette buds are always in the carts. Greens are in very bad shape, areas on the greens have not been repaired in years. They just get worse. heard there is a new manager on site. Seems like things should get better. Appears nobody can dictate with authority.
I Keep Trying, They Keep Failing...
This course is literally 3 minutes from my home. It used to be my go-to course because of it's proximity. I could jump up on a weekday afternoon and get a round in just under 3 hours.
Unfortunately for the past few years, the course has been in poor shape. I've avoided it regularly, but as some of the other courses in the area likewise have issues, I wanted to give the place one more try.
First, the rates. Maybe as recently as 10 years ago, I would play here for $25-30. Now they're charging $50+ on a weekday. Maybe 20 years ago it was worth something, but in the last 10 years it's NEVER been worth that price. I'd say OK if there were capital improvements and the course was being improved, but I feel most of the money is going to improvements with them booking private parties in the clubhouse.
The course itself is just OK, the layout is decent. You're routed through a neighborhood but most of the fairways are fairly open with ample place to land. But there is OB and/or water on 17 of the 18 holes. Fairways are not so generous that you won't find yourself in one or the other on occasion.
Tee boxes were spotty - some were in very good shape, others not so great. Fairways were spotty - too many bare spots and dead spots in the middle of a fairway. Seems to not make sense.
The greens are where the course loses all credibility. Most golfers will put up with just OK everywhere else, but the greens should be nice. And I understand maybe taking a while coming out of dormancy, you might paint them to green them up. But they are painted because in many places they have no grass. None. You're putting on dirt. As well, there are many greens with sprigs of grass around either dirt or very short grass, creating that wonderful basketball bounding effect as you roll your putts. Some greens were very tight, others a bit more hairy, like they're trying to let the grass grow in before cutting it.
Suffice it to say I won't be back for another long while, especially not at that rate. I pay less at several other local courses and those are all in better shape.
Bad
Pro shop charges literally double for a sleeve of balls, for example supersofts cost 25$ at most and they charge 45$ a box?? never have paid even close to this amount for a box of balls. Course in terrible shape, back 9 was closed when we booked and no one mentioned that. The cup was literally sticking above the green on one of the holes. Absolutely terrible place to golf.
Not worth your time or money
My buddy and I came in from out of town and selected this course based on its "good" reviews.. We suspect someone who works at or owns the course may have wrote the positive reviews. When we arrived to check in, the clubhouse attended didn't seem in to big of a hurry to assist us. He wasn't rude but he also wasn't pleasant. The bar attendant was friendly and nice. Now on to the real reason for this review. In the 35 years I've been playing, this course might be in the worst shape I've ever played. Many, many bares spots in fairways all over the course. Really no grass to hit off per se. Greens were just like the fairways. Very bare with little grass. Looked like the holes hadn't been recut in several months. Surprisingly bunkers had been raked but this was deceiving as there was very little sand (maybe 1 inch and then hard pan). Based on many of the very nice older homes that surround the course, we suspect this was a good course at one time. However it is very apparent that money, time & effort has not been put into maintaining the course for quite some time. I would not recommend playing this course (regardless of the greens fee).
The staff was really kind
We are from South Korea to play golf in New Orleans. We have found several golf courses around the French Quater. It was our first rounding and it was satisfactory. Karen was really kind and we loved her. The diet was nice so we had both breakfast and lunch.
The course condition was excellent although the wind was blowing. We played well without any delay or waiting.
Couldn’t play
Wanted to play on Super Bowl week as we were in town working and the pro shop did not have any left handed rental clubs. Very poor planning.
