Timberlane Golf & Recreation

About
When Timberlane Golf & Recreation opened in 1959 as Timerlane Country Club, it was the first private golf club on the west bank of the Mississippi. The oaks planted at that time have beautifully matured, adding to both the scenery and difficulty of the golf course. Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed the course, crafting a challenging test that has been ranked as one of the most difficult golf courses in the country. You'll have to contend with 80 strategically placed sand bunkers and 17 different water hazards. While the course is not overly punishing, you'll have to be prepared to have every aspect of your game tested. Before tackling Timberlane''s golf course you may find it helpful to warm up using the club's all-grass driving range and you can use the large putting green to practice with putting, chipping, and sand play.

18th green! Sticking it close! Photo submitted by dahnguyen on 10/27/2015
Greens need a lot of work.
Course itself wasn’t in bad condition and I always enjoy playing it. My main complaint is the condition of the greens. You basically tried to hit the ball towards the hole and hope you get close.
Greens not too good
Overall, this is a great course. Staff is very good, from the pro shop to the starter. Tee boxes are a little raggedy right now. At lest 6 of the greens are not in good shape. I don't know what the problem is, but there are a lot of bald spots. Hopefully they get them under control. Still a great course that I enjoy playing. FYI, greens will be aerated on 5/22.

Thankyou for leaving us a review and we appreciate you for continuing to stick it out with us! The greens are currently in their transition phase between winter to summer turf and will be back to normal in no time!
Decent course, better when they fix everything
Just played this one for the first time. We paid 38 bucks for a hot deal and wouldn't wanna pay anymore than that. The pro shop and amenities are pretty lacking, but that's mainly because they're doing some work to all of that and I believe getting a new pro shop. Not much water around the course so bring some water bottles.
The course itself was just okay. Bunkers are in bad condition, but it was the day after a storm and they themselves say they're actively working on the bunkers so I don't necessarily hold that against them, just something to keep in mind if you play. The greens are kind of half and half. Half of them are really good, and the other half need a decent amount of work in terms of weeds and brown spots. The turf on the greens themselves was actually very nice. Had no problem with the fairways.
All in all, not the best course around (I personally like Lakewood the best right now), but they're actively working on improving the course and the amenities around the clubhouse, so good on them for that. Really think this place is gonna be really nice once everything is completed.
Nice layout!
Enjoyed a round at Timberlane while down on business. Not a terribly long course but laid out nicely so you have to be accurate off the tees from the back. Whites looked a little more forgiving. Greens in very good shape for this time of year. Con - had to ask another golfer directions to 10th tee so signage could be improved. No rakes in the traps. Will definitely play again next time I am down!

We are glad you enjoyed your round and can't wait to have you back!
Only course that is worse than this on the Westbank is Stonebridge.

Good morning, we would not normally respond to reviews like this but we believe this is an extremely unfair perspective after you verbally abused and insulted our staff. We don't condone behavior like yours on our golf course but we were kind enough to allow you to continue play after you cursed our starter out for reminding you of the rules. We are sorry for your "Bad experience" but would prefer if you did not return. Thankyou. - Golf Professional
Greens in great shape
The course is in great shape. Greens were in very good shape. We had a sixsome in front of us. This shouldn't happen. They had at least 3 beginners. There is a starter for a reason. I was a single and met a lovely couple who I played the back nine with. It was a great time just pick up the pace.

Thankyou for the kind review! We appreciate the feedback and definitely do not allow sixsomes. I will get with the marshal and ensure this does not happen going forward.
Nice diversion from Bourbon Street
Nice course with excellent greens
Good layout with some carry holes
Well worth the visit

Thankyou!!!
Nice track
Surprisingly nice track! Pace of play was pretty good and the greens were in great shape. Fairways were marginal. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the outing.

Thankyou!! Please visit us again.
Great shape
Despite frequent rains in the New Orleans area over the past few weeks, the overall condition of the course was excellent! The greens were in fabulous condition; took time to repair ball marks on the greens from previous play.
Highly recommend playing this course! Kudos to the entire course attendants!
Timberland theme of golfing go hand n hand with the state pot holes on the car path and on the greens.

Thankyou! We would love to have you back anytime!!
Greens in great shaoe
We try to play TPC when we can, but Timberlane is on the upswing and always our first choice after TPC. The greens this week were in excellent shape. Looks like they’re remodeling the whole clubhouse and golf shop, excited for Timberlane 2023.
Good shape!
A few months ago, heard the course was not in good shape. Played with 2 regulars and found the tee boxes, fairways and greens in pretty decent shape. The only drawback was all the sand traps were hard-pan, making greenside bunker shots very challenging. Impressed by big turnaround by superintendent and staff!! Keep up the great work!
Fun Round
Course was a little wet but was still 90 Degree rule, which is amazing. Course was in good shape. Greens could use a little upkeep.

Thankyou for leaving us a review! The green conditions are not something we are proud of right now but they will be back to normal in no time! They are currently transitioning from winter grass to summer grass which is where you see some of the burnout on the turf. Thanks!
