English Turn Golf & Country Club
About
English Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design that was crafted in 1988 to host the New Orleans PGA Tour event. Nicklaus designed the course to be enjoyed equally by spectators and golfers, incorporating gallery berms and spectator mounds throughout. This challenging design is known for its undulating greens that will test even the most seasoned players. Each hole has a unique design that combines strategically placed bunkers, including large waste bunkers, and sloping grass swales. There is also carefully sculpted mounding along the edges of the fairways. On top of that, water comes into play on nearly every hole. English Turn's signature hole, the 15th, is a tricky par 5 with an island green but it's the final hole, a par 4 with water all along the left side, that is rumored to be the golf course's toughest.

No service
The Golf the course and clubhouse were great. However, I was not able to serve my clients I took out for GOLF. Upon arrival, the bar was closed and no food service was available even after 10am. My clients were very disappointed and it was hard for me to keep apologizing for the shortcoming of a so called prestige golf club. The bar did not open until way late in the day and we were not able to get anything to eat after 2:30 PM. I won’t be able to bring back clients to your clubhouse after this experience. This is unfortunate as we were looking forward to play at this facility.
James is the Best Thing about English Turn
Played here in early November, course was in good shape with cooler (for New Orleans) temps. We teed off around 10 am and they were midday watering the greens after top dressing them that morning. Fairways were in good shape going into the dormant season. Fresh mow across the board kept things very playable. Greens were fast but not unplayably so. Course has no out of bounds for the most part but is bordered by water all the way around. Overall we had a good time, even after getting stuck behind a group of 4 walkers (assuming locals). Rest of the groups were out of towners in singles or doubles so pace of play was decent. Only thing I would caution is if it's hot, start earlier in the day, there isn't much shade if you get stacked up and have to wait and it could easily get quite hot. Course does provide plenty of water at coolers through out and bathrooms as well.
Only disappointment -- for $130/round a small bucket, at least, of range balls should be included, come on Troon, you're not hurting that bad more money. The best thing about this place though is James the starter, he was so friendly, gave us tips and tricks to watch out for on the course and even offered to take our picture before teeing off. As a youngish couple, our mothers were extremely thrilled to get this. He kept us on pace for the front nine and checked in about half way through, making sure we were good. He's a lovely gentleman and I would come back just to see him.
Oddly enough, this "club" has a pretty decent sized women's locker room (not always the case) and the ladies/senior tee boxes were very well maintained. Don't expect to find anything in the pro shop but overall a decent experience for ladies in the South. Don't hesitate to bring a group of girls or accompany your gentleman friend, bonus points if you're a cat lady, there is a lovely ginger cat who is very friendly at the turn rest stop.
Great round at English turn
Welcoming staff, nice clubby facilities. Reasonable greens fee that included range balls. Starting marshal, James was friendly and helpful. His introduction to the course included everything you might wonder and more. Very informative. His help continued throughout the day as he moved faster players through and did his best to keep the pace of play reasonable on what was a very full golf course.
Amazing!
Great conditions, fast, scenic, friendly!
Good course
Course was in very good shape. Would be nice to have gps. James the starter was excellent. Greens were pretty quick but don’t hold. Would definitely play again especially with the golf now deal.
Great shape
Starter was awesome. Course and greens were in great shape. Service staff was great.
Great Track!
Great course. Mr. James (the starter) is the man! He laid out all the danger prior to the round and some helpful hints. Played the combo tees (Gold / Blue) and it was definitely a challenge for our handicaps (4.7 & 7.3). Highly recommend!!!!
Great condition
The course was in excellent condition despite they often on rain that we have had recently.
My Turn
Course was in great shape.. Got a good price of $75 on golfnow. James the starter was very friendly and gave us some good course tips. Would definitely play this course again.
Still good not great
So, I was visiting New Orleans from Ohio. I golf in a league, and once or twice a week outside of that. My wife suggested I bring golf clubs, never thought of golfing in New Orleans. Wink wink. I looked at the golf scene in New Orleans, and saw that the Arnold Palmer design course, English turn, was once the host of the Zürich open. They haven’t hosted since 2006. And it’s no longer a private club. However, the course was in pretty good shape, the fairways better than average shape. The greens were small, flat, and not very green all. That being said, though, I do wanna highlight that the staff was outstanding. We had a rain delay and they handled everything very professionally, and I got back out there and finished the round after the storm went through. So I wanna give a shout out to the staff there cause they’re outstanding. Their listed rate is around 125. However, if you use any of the apps, you can probably get it for 70. I would say that it was worth $70. So all in all I can recommend it. If you’re looking for TPC quality, then go to the TPC in New Orleans.
Great course
Pro shop and James were very helpful and the restaurant was great as well! Shrimp tacos suggested by waitress were excellent!!
Very enjoyable course to play!
Great experience overall
Visiting from out of town (Portland, OR) and was looking for a challenging and fun course. English Turn delivered. I enjoyed the layout with water in play on every hole. Staff was super friendly and helpful. The starter James gave me a nice introduction to the course. I played as a single Saturday afternoon and finished in 3.5 hours. Loved the pace of play.
The only issue I had was the greens had some brown spots that definitely affected the putt. A few of the spots were significant enough that I actually needed to move my line (called it ground under repair).
But overall I had a great experience and would play it again.
General Comments
I enjoyed the round. Beautiful course and Staff was friendly
Excellent course, terrific staff
James the course Marshall may be the friendliest man since Mr. Rodgers. The course is in excellent shape, we played with a group of high and low handicaps, and everyone found the round both fun and challenging. We will be back.
