Excellent value.
This course might be the best value in New Orleans. For $30.00 on Sunday morning I was extremely pleased. The greens could be the fastest around. The staff were all a pleasure.
Greens are in excellent shape
Overall the entire course was in very good shape. Nice to also have water available on many of the holes.
Heluva hot course!
Played on a typical hot, August, New Orleans day. Course was in great shape because of regular rainfall. Not much shade on the course, so around 2 PM it became brutally hot. One benefit---not too many other golfers. Some of the greens had minor rain or heat damage but not enough to impair putting. Friendly Pro Shop staff and good food from the kitchen. A very good value. Junior and other rates available. Highly recommend!
Great Course for the price
Played 18 holes on a Friday at noon. More people than expected playing, but pace of play was good. A few greens has some rough spots around the edges but overall a fun course to pay.
Great course and great value
They have really built this course into something nice. I have been frequenting this course since I moved back to New Orleans 3 years ago as it is right up the street from my work. The value is there. It is a well kept course that offers a number of difficult holes. I recommend this golf course over others in town to anyone who will listen.
Enjoyable Round
This is a very nice local public course. Good shape and a real value for the money.
best public course in the city.
When it comes to public courses, you won't find a better place to play for a good price. I've been playing here for 30yrs. and plan to continue playing in foreseeable future. I play there at least 2 times a week.
Great value
I play JB once a week. It is by far the best public course in New Orleans. The layout is fair, the most difficult holes are 15 and 18 in my opinion. The staff is always friendly and the condition is suburb. Greens are very fast and fairways are real not just a field with weeds like city park north or stonebridge. Do yourself a favor and play here u wont be disappointed.
Good course for a public course
Being a city of New Orleans run course, I expected this course to be a goat pasture by now, 5 years after opening. I am pleased to say that this is one gem that the city has not destroyed. The course is in very good shape...always! Pace of play is an issue due to the regulars that play weekly and their refusal to play courteous golf, but the course is worth the relatively slow play at times. I give the an A+ as far as public courses go in New Orleans.
A fair course all around.
The course is decent given all of the factors. The weather in the winter has been up and down and the greens have take a bit of a hit, but other than that it is pretty well maintained. Greens are fast, but consistent. Not a ton of water or bunkers, but the wind can make it challenging and play longer than the scorecard indicates. The staff could be better, the ranger/starter/cart lady are friendly, but the staff in the pro shop always seem like they would rather be anywhere but there. I don't think I've checked in once and not had them be on the phone and barely make eye contact, let alone have any more than the bare minimum of conversation with players. I guess that's what you get with a municipal course in a city without much funding for golf.
Must Play New Orleans
This course was a pleasant surprise...a diamond in the rough. Greens where a bit discolored but rolled great. Driving range in excellent condition. Must Play
Nice Muni
Overall it's a good value. The renovations were well done.
Cart we used didn't have a new score card on it. The one on it was used. They could pay better attention to details.
Good course, slow players+
Well-maintained, well-priced course. Clubhouse is comfortable, clean and well-stocked. Only real knock is that people don't want to let you play through if you're single or going faster, and rangers don't make it an issue unless a party in question is a favorite or regular. I kinda appreciate that they're not overly strict, but I'd prefer just a little more communal courtesy.
Make space for pace
I have played JB many times and it's mostly a fun experience. However, when you get stuck behind experienced players (4-some) who have little regard for pace-of-play, it can make for a miserable outing. The fact that there ARE rangers on the course, but they don't keep track of pace only enhances the frustration. JB is a very good course and can be played in a 3 hour normal pace.
good for a muni
Solid bang for your buck. The greens have been in great shape since spring. My only complaint is they allow 5 and 6 people in a group, and they're all friends with the course rangers. They play very slow and don't let you play through. If you don't get stuck behind one of these groups it's a pretty enjoyable experience.
Truly Missed
I learned to play golf at the old course. It was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The new course is beautiful and it was my first time playing it.
It brought back a lot of memories and historically it was
the only course where Black People could play golf in the New Orleans area. Even thought the architect was Black and designed several courses in the 1940's and 50's, and couldn't play on them.
Good Public Course
Good public course. The course was actually pretty nice. Beautifully redone after hurricane Katrina. Great work by the grounds crew. Play early, the first tee box was jammed up around noon. Watch out for foursomes if you play alone. I caught up with one on hole 7 and they would not even offer me to play through. Took 4 hours to play 18 by myself. Overall good course for the price.
Greens were in reaaly good condition
Overall the course was in good condition, a little challenging at times.
