Fun Course
The Course is very fun to play. Its on the easier side. The starter should do a better job and group people together better. There was a group of 3 followed by a single followed by three groups of 2 followed by a single and another group of two. You can see how this would have a negative impact on pace of play. Usually waiting on every tee box since it is a shorter course. Overall it was fun and I would play it again. Just be warned if you need a consistent pace to play your best then you may be frustrated here. It didn't bother us that much since we had all day.
Seeing a good friend again.
Played here 7 or 8 years ago.
Found it on Golfnow and had never heard of it.
So realizing on the way it was the course at which I had played.
Great deal, great customer service . I had a lot of fun. Lots of blind and challenging tee shots. And I liked it. Played the whites and next time the blues. Good solid fairways, Excellent greens. perfect weather.
Tho my friend Bob and I didn't take you up on the beer.
We will be back.
Steve R.
Well worth it.
A fun golf course to play, and pretty friendly staff. I recommend this golf course.
What a treat!
Nice course. Super friendly staff. Tricky little course I was really surprised. Shot my personal best, (an 82) as some of the holes were very forgiving. There is one,,tho, that had me totally confused as to the direction. Just remember: there's a reason they call it Boulder Oaks. (lol). Really dug the tricky layout as it was a treat for me. As with most: Need to hit straight at this course. Next time I'm playing the blue or black tees! Great value!
Unique layout
We have played this course 3 or 4 times in the past year. Unique layout, with four par 3's on front nine (32) and four par 5's on back nine (38). Despite its short length, we still find it challenging at times.
Greens are in good shape, but a little slow. The variations in slope on the greens makes up the difference, with some difficult pin positions. Fairways are spotty in places, but good. Biggest complaints I have are the tee boxes (in need of mowing as they are almost as bad as the rough). Also, if you get off the fairways, there many instances where you are hitting off of hardpan, with lots of crevices.
Not worth the time or money,
Played 08/19/2018, Was totally dissatisfied with the course conditions. Actually it is probably one of the worst courses I have ever played. Here is a breakdown of the shape it was in.
1. Cart paths are potted dirt & gravel for many of the holes.
2. The Tee Boxes are uneven, dug up, unmowed. The worst I have played.
3. The grass in the fairway is the length that is normally used for the 1st or 2nd cut of rough. When your ball disappears in the middle of the fairway because it is sitting so deep in grass it makes you wonder if they cut it. The ball wasn't plugged into the ground, just sitting deep in grass. Not what a fairway should be.
4. The greens have not been rolled or cut in at least 4 days or more. You could not get the ball to roll. A few of the greens actually had clumps of cut grass piled up in various spots. Slowest greens we have ever played.
5. Bunkers, 50% of the bunkers looked to be gravel pits, the bunkers that did have sand have not been raked in quite some time.
6. The golf carts themselves were not cleaned or at least the one they gave us, old cigarette butts in the cup holders is not what we wanted.
The course does have potential to be a nice course but it will take a lot of work to get it up to even a standard level. Most definitely NOT a "Hidden Gem"
On the positive side, the Staff was friendly.
Not worth the time or the money
I don't normally review courses here but I had to leave some comments here because the comments that I read about the course are extremely inaccurate. I just finished the round today, We were the first off the tee box this morning. The course is in absolute terrible shape. 1st, the Tee Boxes are extremely poor, chopped up and uneven with a few of the black tee boxes closed, 2nd, the cart paths do not even follow the course and are useless on a few of the holes. 3rd the fairways are cut to the length of grass you would see the first cut of rough cut too. It is pretty bad when you are laying in the middle of the fairway and your ball is sitting down below the grass, again this is in the middle of the fairway, not plugged but sitting down into and covered by grass. 4th, the greens could not roll true because I don't believe they have been rolled for easily over a week, they were extremely slow because it doesn't even look like they have been cut for the last few days. There were actually piles of cut grass laying on a few of the greens. The reviews that I read before making the tee time gave me high hopes for the course, it was an average 4 star rating on GolfNow and people were calling it a hidden gem. Well it does have the possibility of becoming a nice course but it will take some serious maintenance to get it up to standards let alone a "Hidden Gem" On the upside, the staff is extremely friendly and nice. I will not be playing this course again and can not recommend the course to anyone.
To hot for golf....
Always pleasant, and a challange.....greens were very nice today, tees could use some work.
Pace of play, excellent....
See you next time.
Good golf course tucked away
I was surprised just how good the fairways were and how thick the grass was for July August and the greens were very good and I want to golf it again.
GEM
This was a hidden gem! Really nice course. Short from the tips. Recommend playing blues or white tees if it’s a first time playing, lots of blind shots. Awesome course! Will be back
hidden gem
Very nice layout, good use of the land. Can be a short course or long enough from the tips. Several blind tee shots can be tricky. Greens were receptive and ran true and a good pace. Some tee boxes could use some attention, otherwise a great little gem
Excellent course choice
We switched our round from another course with a 3-Star rating and suggestion from a local golfer to this course; it was an excellent choice based upon the challenge and conditions of the course; I played this course last July as a single and recalled several holes for their unique layouts; I brought my 30 yo son with me this year, and both of us were quite pleased with the round despite our lack of knowledge of the course.
I will play this course in future visits to the area.
always pleasent
Fairways and greens in very nice condition....
Traps looked rough, and tees really need some work....but overall, nice day on the golf course
Boulder Oaks July 4th
Pace of play was surprisingly good for a holiday afternoon 3.5. Hours to complete the round
Great course for the price
Fairways and greens were in excellent condition and the course offered a challenge with variety of terrain .
Gem in the hills
Narrow in parts and challenging on the back nine. Fun to play and staff were very welcoming and pleasant. Had dinner afterwards. Food was good and inexpensive several beers on tap and a full bar. We will be back.
Fun
Course is in good condition and getting better each time we play here. Friendly and accommodating staff. A few challenging holes and overall fun layout. Feel good par fives from the blue tees with a chance to eagle for those of us who have lost some distance as we get older. Don't let the overall length of the course fool you into playing the back tees unless you have a low handicap. Play the tees based on your skill level and you will have an enjoyable round and so will the group behind you.
Almost fun day
I’ve played this course before and the improvements overall are great. The staff are extremely nice and helpful, which compensated for the slow play. The fairways were nicer than my last visit and the greens were spot on. With the exception of playing in between two elderly groups (did not play one hole just to get some distance from them both) it was an great course to play.
