El Rio in excellent shape
Fairways and tees in excellent shape. Greens a little bumpy but consistent
Typical Muni
Many straight holes, a couple of dog legs. Greens appeared healthy but the cut on them is terrible. Had no confidence on holding a line. Looks kinda like a cross cut but they do not look smooth. Could use a good rolling. For the price it was Fine.
A walk through history!
I enjoyed playing the course where so many golf legends walked the fairways in the 40' 50's and 60's. The golf course was in good condition and I was greated by a very friendly golf staff!
Dave Ragan III
The pace was very slow resulting in our leaving after 13 holes.
In a number of locations the tee box is waaaaay too close to the last green.
Nice little course
Pleasantly surprised Saw a few bad reviews but booked anyway sense it’s just down street We play this course every year when we get into town from back East Nothing fancy but nice course for the money Would play again
Tucson
This is a good course for the beginner golfer or a person who plays a few times a year. The trees ion the course were absolutely beautiful. You can tell this course has been around a long time by how mature the trees are. Sand traps were in pretty good condition and actually had sand in them. Greens are very firm and hold nothing. There were a lot of sand traps in front of the greens that made it difficult to land a shot on the green and not have it roll off the back. If the greens were more receptive of your approach shot that would make it a lot more fair. Price was extremely reasonable but would not play it again.
Meh, good place to work on your game
Greens were fast and course generally in good shape, bunkers inconsistent some fluffy and some baked…good practice area but putting green was poor condition. Morning guys played fast it was a quick round.
Not much good to say
We got off 50 minutes late,
Pace was very slow, 5 hour round
To top it all off at the end of the round we went to get the car and my back window had been smashed.
Cold, Windy, Late getting out, really slow play and a broken window. I won't be going back
OK for the value
The greens are strange at best. Chris cross pattern with sparse grass & root growth. Ball would not check up even with wedges. Pitts would roll not too bad but speed was inconsistent. Over seeded fairways are fine to play from. Bunkers are easy to hit from when given dry conditions. Most bunkers were wet or had standing water. Why?? No rain in a couple of weeks.
Poor Upkeep
The course was in poor condition from fairways to green, driving range and putting green and golf cart. Recent fire closed pro shop, restaurant and bathrooms were trailer port-a-potty. This probably was a nice course back in the day, but no longer. We will not be back. However, the staff were all super helpful and friendly!
Marginal Course
I hadn't played El Rio for a while, and this round reminded me why. Staff was very nice, but the course conditions were pretty poor. Greens were rock hard, and since there are 2 bunkers (with only a hint of sand overlying hardpan underneath) fronting every green (with a very narrow slot between them), you can't fly the ball to the green and expect it to hold, and you really can't run it up since the opening between the bunkers is so narrow. Layout is very traditional and not particularly interesting. A good walking track since it's completely flat. Overall, a pretty marginal course.
