Good course for the money
Fairways and greens in good shape for getting close to overseed, course personnel freindly
Overall a good experience.
Course is in fair codition. 2 of the water foutains provided water but didn't drain well (maintenance issue). I would like to see some new tree plantings.
Vintage layout, lousy condition
If you like crabgrass, you'll love El Rio. This course is just like the muni course I learned to play golf on 50 years ago. It's absolutely flat, so walking is easy. But the grass is mostly weeds, albeit green weeds. Bunkers are either dirt or mud, depending on how the sprinklers are aimed. We play it in October because it's what's open.
A City Gem
El Rio probably was way out of town when it it was built in the 1930s, and once you're on the course, you can almost imagine that you've left town for the day. It's a comfortable, yet tightly laid out course, making efficient use of nearly every square foot. The addition of junior tees help make it fun for families and golfers of all levels to play together.
Great lay out
I like the course and would like to play after the green come back after the reseeding.
Inconsistency hurts this course9/2
There is a certain sentimental connection to this old track; however, the course could use a bit of modernization, beginning with electric carts and removing the less fuel efficient, dirty gas ones. The bunkers were inconsistent ranging from hardened clay to cement mix to playsand. The greens were in terrific shape! The fairways, not so much. Again many parts were terrific, but all in all, a bit too much money for riding and playing. You can get a better deal at prettier layouts; however, I could see myself going back there some timend walking nine.
A nice muni track. people are friendly, crew works hard to maintain
The course condition varies from real nice as it has been all summer to pretty bad like it was in prior years. The layout presents its challenges but in general it is a fair course with no big surprises. Of all the city courses I find the staff here to be the most friendly and accomodating. I believe the ground crews respond to severe weather damage very well. The course gets cleaned up and mowed quite quickly after a storm.
Not bad for a municipal course
I have played this course for years and like the layout. When the parks and recreation department has spent the time and attention to city courses, it was a good course to play. A good course to walk; however, there is not a good area to warm-up as the range is now a First Tee site. You need to hit accurate drives to score well.
