About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Golfer Reviews
I'm unhappy with golf now
The course is great, in a beautiful setting. The course is in really good condition. I'm not happy with golf now They told me that after 10 rounds I would no longer have to pay the extra fee but they keep charging and there is no no way to contact them. I'm very unhappy with them!!!
GREAT COURSE IN AVILA BEACH. VERY CHALLENGING
GREAT COURSE. A MUST PLAY WHILE ON THE CENTRAL COAST. VERY CHALLENGING.
very challenging features! In spades...
Having never played this course I was pleased that they paired me up with players who had played this course before. And let me tell you, it was worth a million dollars! There were surprises that no one could have anticipated from a view from afar. An old course with beautiful mature trees, saw one deer and bull frogs that could sing with the best bear in the forest! Elevation changes that really surprised me, and would of been very difficult without the experience brought by my companions. Surprises galore, and that is all I'm going to say for now. Give it a try; you'll like it. And GolNow made the day with an outstanding green fee!
Thanks, GolfNow.
Enjoyed our 18 hole experience, but!
Enjoyed our 18 hole experience and had wanted to get in another 9. We went to the clubhouse to see what an additional nine would cost. We were told that they don't have a 9 hole greenfee and we would have to pay for 18. We were dissappointed and left. Management needs to consider adding that option.
Fun Course
Great weather, nice course, good times. If you are on the Central Coast, I would recommend playing this course. It's a great deal if you can get the GolfNow deal with a cart.
This place has a great layout, nice scenery, and is very well maintained
If you like fun, challenging courses, you should play here. The condition of the course is excellent, and the scenery is great!
tough to rate
I'm not sure what to say here. If nothing else this is a fun track. The layout is quirky and conditions are pretty scruffy except for the greens which I found hard to read. Also, there are some tight fairways, forced water carries and a couple of blind shots to deal with. I'm not sure beginners will enjoy playing here very much. If you take the 7AM hotdeal teetime it will be hard to hit balls before you go out. But they're happy to give you a bucket after the round .
Always fun to play
I come here a lot and this course still is challenging. Great value for a college student when getting the hot deal of the day. Definitely one of the top courses in the area.
Avila Beach Golf Resort is a must play on the Central CA coast
Course varies from flat to hilly, challenging shots between mature oaks, over water, through a cut in a hill, and gauging the roll due to the hills. Leave your slice and hook at home - you'll suffer in the roughs! Greens in good shape - play from the downhill side or you may be looking at a 3 putt! Great ambiance and enjoyable outing!
Go before 2pm on weekdays.
My husband and I enjoy playing Avila because it has a variety of challenging holes along with some fairly straightforward ones. We purchased a fairly good late afternoon discount rate on golfnow.com but found ourselves playing on a course with too many foursomes. We did now know that at this time of year Avila offers $18 rounds Mon-Thurs from 2pm on, and a Twilight Club ($29.99/month; free golf after 4pm), which makes late afternoon play very slow.
very nice course
yes i love this course. Gonna be in the area another two weeks, and will be golfiny Avila. Thank you Golf Now ,I am a new golfer, and love it.
like playing on a cow pasture.
this course was awful. half the time you do not know where to go.
Beautiful views . Staff was great . Course in great shape
We had fantastic ocean views driving to course . Was nice that there was a cart girl . Can't wait to play it again
Fun and a good test
ABGC is a lot of fun. It is not overly long, but does require some good decisions and thoughtfully placed shots. "Rookies" are advised to play with some regulars; local knowledge is very helpful. The greens were in wonderful condition!
Challenging course with a variety of holes.
Starts out with a straight forward par 4 and gets significantly harder. An uphill par 3 followed by a challenging par 5. Then a short par 4 that puts a premium on placement with your drive. Hole after hole of interesting turns which requires you to hit to a specific area for maximum results. Playing from the blues is only 6400 yards but plays alot longer. Would recommend that you play from the whites 6000 yards, for you first time out.
An enjoyable golf course and one I would play again.
Fun to Play
Some challenging tee shots. Greens were just a bit fuzzy but they rolled true and the reads were tuff to figure. Overall a good course that just needs a bit of attention. Looks like they replaced the fringe around some of the greens so things are getting done. Nice pro shop staff and good food in the grill.
The course has some great scenery when playing the holes near the ocean.
I've seen this course in better conditions but considering I played in mid February, which has had recent frost, I'll wait until spring and summer to see if it improves
Fun, well kept course
This corse is great! The front nine offer good elevation and slope changes while the back nine is moderately flat and allows for an opportunity to finish strong.
