Oak Valley Golf Club
About
This course used to be considered a hidden gem. Now, Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont is an off-the-beaten-path known reasonable joy. Stopping on the way from Los Angeles to Palm Springs for a golf detour is no fool's play. Not with the fast greens, dramatic elevation changes and swerving fairways available at Oak Valley in Beaumont.
A Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley design, Oak Valley is probably best known for greens that are anything but desert typical. Speed is the name of the game here, with a tap sometimes too much on a downhill putt.
Recognition does not travel that quickly. It took a decade for Oak Valley to get a four star rating from Golf Digest. Once it did, Beaumont suddenly became a golf stopping spot on the Palm Springs express. Now, you're considered a smart golfer if you linger on the way to Palm Springs.
"It's a nice getaway from the crowds in the desert, as well as some of the other, more populated golf areas," head pro Scott Arnold said. "It's almost like being in the country. No houses line the fairways. Each hole is different. And because of the way it's laid out, you often can't even see another hole from the one you're playing."

Oak Valley back 9 Photo submitted by VICRAZ7 on 12/09/2013
morning 5/14/21
This has always been one of my favorite courses in the Inland empire to play. It’s close to home and is usually very consistent. Recently there has been a decline in playing conditions, and the course is a mere shadow of what it once was 10 years ago. The greens continue to be some of the best around and were just aeriated. The areas around the greens are well maintained, and the green side bunkers are as good as local bunkers are. The fairways could use more water and a nice re-seed wouldn’t be a bad idea. Most of the fairways are patchy mix of rye and Bermuda grass with very little consistency in color and a cut. The tee boxes are very worn out and need to maintained and rotated more often. The staff has been hit and miss for me, they are not rude by any means, but no one has gone above and beyond and provide top tier service one would expect from a top-quality golf course. Recently the driving range has started to place mats out on the grass to preserve the hitting area. This intervention is understood, but not enjoyed. I love playing here and will continue to play here, but I wish the course could be brought back to the conditions it was in when I started playing there
Lack of Amenities, Conditions Average
Course conditions were average. The greens are still recovering from aerification which is fine since I knew that when I booked the round. However the tee boxes and fairways need attention. Still seeing lots of weeds and sketchy grass conditions. I expect better from this course with its reputation. The biggest issue is the lack of amenities. Pro shop is still closed. Restrooms are in bad condition - especially for women. No food available. After my wife and I finished our round, we drove to the Yucaipa Valley Golf Course and enjoyed a great turkey & avocado sandwich on their patio (as were several other folks). The vibe at Yucaipa was fun while Oak Valley seemed dreary. I also noticed that Yucaipa was much greener than Oak Valley. Maybe Oak Valley started their fertilization efforts later but they need to catch up fast.
Greens
I’m assuming they’re doing something to the greens whether it be fertilizing etc but they should kind of let you know in advance. I figured there was some catch for only being $30. Love the course but frustrating when your ball is skipping the whole time on the green.
Great Course, Bad Marshall
Overall we had a great day on the course. One thing that did upset me was we were only on the 2nd hole when the marshal feels the need to come up and tell us to speed up our game play...2nd hole?!?! We were on the green about to put and there still wasn’t a person ready to tee off behind us. I can understand someone coming and telling us to hurry up on maybe 5 or 6 but come on, 2nd hole and no ones on the tee box?! Other than this incident it was a good day but the Marshall was out of line for this one...
I have always hated golf marshals. I understand pace of play, but 9/10 times my group is not the problem. When we are it was a bad hole and we usually pick up and move on. Ive had similar problems with the oak valley marshals.
Good for the price
Course is in pretty good shape. There are some improvements needed but course is overall good.
Yucaipa is in much better playing condition and the price is cheeper.
