Steele Canyon Golf Club - Ranch/Vineyard
About
Gary Player designed the 27 championship holes at Steele Canyon Golf Club in Jamul. The holes are divided into three unique nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The nines, called Canyon, Vineyard, and Ranch, each offer a different character but they are equally challenging. On the Ranch/Vineyard Course, golfers will be playing alongside free-roaming cattle that wander across the grassy meadows. There are a few elevation changes but they are not as dramatic as on the Canyon nine. Water hazards come into play several times and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with as well. The third hole on the Ranch nine is the signature hole at Steele Canyon. This tricky par 4 plays from an elevated tee that sits 175 feet above the fairway. It is made even tougher by the prevailing winds that blow from left to right.

Golfer Reviews
play it when you can
The Canyon course is the interesting 9 with elevation changes and some sloping fast greens. The Meadows course also has some nice holes but a couple of boring holes thrown in. We played during the week and the course had few golfers but I imagine during the weekend the rounds might go slow with so many hazards to avoid for average golfers.
Nice layout but need to improve condition
Played Canyon and Ranch. There were lot of elevation changes so if you're not used to that, it can be very difficult. Layout and variety of scenic holes are the strength of this course. Conditioning left me wanting more. Greens were mostly smooth and on the fast side. I enjoyed it and would play again at discounted rate.
A very challenging course
Great staff, great course. Carte Blanche services. Got a taste of how a Professional is treated....
Bang for your buck
Good condition for January, greens are firm, fast and true.
Course will test you
Greens are fast and tricky, ruff eats your ball, great layout fitting into hills and canyons. A real challenge but a lot of fun. Bring a lot of balls because out is lost.
Great course
Great course and really great marshal. They really make sure that the play of game is going very smooth. This course is amazing to play.
Love this course
This course is very challenging, yet fun to play. Sometimes the Marshalls will push you to play faster when there is no one close behind you. That was bad. Other than that great course!
Great Golf Course
This is a great view golf course. The fairway and green are in great shape. I would golf here again.
I like there par 3
The golf course was in good condition
I definitely will play again.. its a challenging course.
What I like is that they have 3 diffrent 9 hole course
Its a must play course
played at 6:24am....no one in front or behind us. twosome played in 3hours and 20 minutes and we took our time. grat time
we paid $60 through golf now and its worth every penny for this course. scenic, challenging, views and in great shape. would recommend to anyone
Love this place
Great track, greens still a little rough from being punched on the canyon course but for $39.00 its not bad at all. At least they drop the rates when the green are punched unlike other places that charge full price even when the greens look like the beach.
Beautiful course, amazing greens, great variety of shots!
This course not only has incredible scenery but is very fun and exciting. It is challenging yet extremely enjoyable. The greens were perfection and the fairways played extremely good too. I had no complaints.
Amazing for the price.
The only thing that would bring this course down for me is that I was stuck behind one slow group, which usually doesn't happen here. I would recommend this course to anyone who is ready to have a fun round because the tee boxes are amazing and normally pace of play is quick.
Target golf
Fun course, but you Must hit straight. A lot of blind tees, did not like that. On some holes the homes are really close. I liked how the course did not feel crowded. Over all good experience, even though I lost balls off the tees that where struck well.
Course has some very fun tee positions and challenging holes.
$40.00 for a weekend with cart was great. The staff was very attentive and on the ball. The course is in very nice shape and some of the tee positions are a lot of fun (parachute is awesome). Greens were in very good condition and rolled moderately fast and true. Only complaints - distance markings are so/so, several tee shots need local knowledge to take advantage of risk/reward, pin markings were not consistent (all black flags and the pins were up, back, middle). Greens are tricky to read and down hill, down grain makes for a tough putt. Slow start but after playing through 2 groups - it was wide open. Finished in 3 hours 10 minutes.
Fun track
I've played this course twice in the last 3 weeks. Great condition, challenging and a lot of fun.
This course was challenging and has scenic views.
We had a great time golfing Steele Canyon. The staff was exceptional, which gave our round of golf that extra pleasurable memory. We will definitely be back for more.
