Oaks/Canyon at Blacklake Golf Course

Black lake is a great play to play it has 3 different 9 hole courses to choose from

The course was in good shape, especially on and around the greens. Being a Tuesday, the course wasn't crowded, so played in just over 3 1/2 hours. Not a grip it and rip it course. Many of the holes were fairly narrow and required playing to the right spots for a clear approach to the green. Greens were quick and held shots well. Very friendly staff. A very enjoyable day.

Play can be a tad bit slow but for the price worth it

I believe the staff has been told to cram as many people on the course as you can. The owners need the money. Tee times for any one of the 3 nines mean nothing cause they will start you on a tee that looks open regardless of the one you were scheduled to play. 5 hr rounds are typical.

The pace of play was veerrryyy slow, nearly 5 hours. The guy in the pro shop said a large group/club plays every monday, so play is often slow then.

The course is in better shape than 2 months ago--bunkers weren't all hard pan, some of the greens ran like real greens rather than slow and bumpy felt-like surfaces. Still, many tee boxes are uneven, and most of the par 3 tee boxes were really beat up, and you still get 70% of the greens that are soft and bumpy.

I do think the course is a great challenge for most golfers, say 10 handicap and up. There are some tricky tee shots on the Lakes where trees come in to play just off the tee box, or in the landing areas; on the Canyon, hole #2 is as challenging a tee shot you'll find anywhere, especially from the back tees. But if you're a good low-handicap player and you're driving the ball well, even with 3 woods or long irons, you'll have mostly wedges and 9 irons into par 4s.

I'm still perplexed why they don't open up the Oaks 9 to more play. It's the shortest of the 9 holes, but it's a great challenge and is all about placement. You might hit driver off the tee just twice and still hit short irons into holes, but it makes you think a lot more than the Lakes and Canyon.

If the course stays in this condition, and I get another $12.00 w/cart deal, I'll definitely go back. But paying $30 bucks is starting to stretch it a bit, especially when you can play courses like Cypress Ridge or Monarch Dunes for $30 at twilight--they are far superior to Black Lake. A normal rate of $50 or so for Black Lake is absurd, though. It's just not in good enough condition anymore to pay that money.

I played Blacklake's Oaks and Lakes courses my first time there. Arrived a little before 7 and the pro shop worker had just arrived, nice young guy. Hit some complimentary range balls on their decent range (it's an awkward downhill and into a hill range that is hard to gauge distance, but it's much better than a net).

The course conditions (tee boxes, fairways, greens etc.) on both the Oaks and Lakes were outstanding. I didn't see if a group got out in front of me or not, but it didn't matter because I finished my round and returned my cart in just over 3 hours (this is fast even by my standards). The course was brand new to me, but I got a good vibe on and around the greens and shot one of my best rounds ever.

Overall I love the course, I'm booking a tee time at Blacklake right after this.

Staff was good at check in, although the complexity of the deals offered made it difficult and time consuming for them and us. The course is split into 3 nines, so you don't always know which ones you will play. From the back tees at least, the fairway on some holes is not visible, so it is hard to know where to aim. The fairways and greens were in pretty good shape. Greens were fast and difficult. I played the first nine (Canyon) as a single until I ran into foursomes on the 8th. From there I joined a twosome. Play was not unreasonably slow with a threesome. I paid $37 including the $2 Golf Now charge.

Great course, with some challenging holes and some very forgiving holes. Good mix

Every since Rossi purchased Blacklake it's been going down hill, I've played county courses in better shape, looks like they've stopped trying to make any effort in properly maintaining grounds.
Regular rate is way overpriced, they're lucky to get $30 a round for this cattle ground.

Little slow on play but still finished about 4 hours. Great view so no need to rush. Had a good game with my daughter then went back to the dunes to ride the quads. Quads, fishing, and golf good trip.

The starters here have always had a difficult time managing the 3 nine hole courses. They are consistently allowing groups to jump in between groups transitioning to their second nine so you never know who will be in front of you when you get to your assigned place. It becomes a free-for-all when busy. Otherwise it is a nice course. The Lakes course has many parallel holes, the other two do not.

Crazy all around the course , very much a unrulely beginning course.

For the money, you can't beat this course. 3 separate 9 hole venues that are each unique layouts, providing very different challenges.

With 3 9's the pace of play is always good. The friendly staff makes it fun. Great value.

Playing hear is always fun. You have three different 9 hole layouts to choose from with each 9 being different. Most recently I have seen a big improvement regarding the conditions of the course itself. The only thing a little disappointing to me is the snack shop which seems to be there only to be a nuisance to the bartenders.

I played the Canyons and the Lakes courses. Really enjoyed the Canyons course. It is not as wide open and makes it seem less crowded though my group did wait at every tee box. Since we played mid-day Saturday on a gorgeous day its not surprising. Overall I really enjoyed the course. Some challenging shots and a well maintained course. Some of the tee boxes were pretty rough, and a few of the bunkers were rock hard. I look forward to playing the Oaks course next time I am in the area.

Not sure I would rate the course so well if I had to pay full price. However, at the Golf Now cost, it was a real bargain. Removing fallen tree debris should be more of a priority. Hard to play the ball down when loose impediments are so numerous.
