Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.

This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.

That is just part of the reason this course totes a 128 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.

There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.

Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Staff is friendly enough just to get by ,no extra. In terms of amenities they had a shared ice chest everyone dips into to fill your water cup .no towels available Cart barn attendant doesn't even attempt to load your bag on the cart.Theres so many courses in the desert area you'd think they'd want to set them selfs apart from the rest..I get it ,it's hot ,but it's not like they were super busy. .

So my friend and I came here thinking it was going to be a nice and easy course. We started in the back nine and boy oh boy I legit thought I was playing at the Masters. Hole layout got tough many many hills giving you tough lies even on the fairway. Definitely would be nice to have played here once before playing. The course was in good condition for the time of year. Definitely need to understand how hard you hit each club otherwise you can be in the water.

Fun challenge

Fun challenging course. Rolling hills and lots of elevation changes. Guarded greens and a few spots with hidden water caused difficulties, but getting more familiar with the course would help that. Overall there is a lot to recommend playing a round on this course.
