Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 145 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Desert Falls
Decent track, greens were good, fairways a little bare in places. A bit pricey for what you get. Happy to pay up elsewhere for better quality.
Beautiful course - tough water holes
We had a great round. The course was in Immaculate condition. We started early so the pace of play was excellent, finishing in less than 4 hours with a threesome.
Tournment Play
The course seamed like the greens keeper might of had a bad week. The pin placement on many greens were in very difficult positions and on more than one occasion it was next to impossible to keep the ball on the green if you missed the put. Nice fairways with difficult rough. Last 3 holes 16,17& 18 were number 6, 4 & 2 handicap holes. Mentally worn out by the end but all that said it was still a great day playing golf.

Super fun course, challenging with several water holes.
The only issue of note was the conditions of the greens. They were very very hard. Land a ball on it and they do not stick. Nor a single divot mark on any of ‘em.
The sand traps are insane!
Looking forward to playing there again.
Solid Layout
Played early in the AM, so pace of play was very good. Solid layout, tougher than most resort courses especially from longer tees. Good value compared to other signature courses in the area.
Beautiful but challenging course
The course has huge fairways and massive greens. It is not a resort course. It has beautiful views from every hole. If you are not an experienced golfer DF would not be fun. There are many long carries and a lot of blind shots.
Since DF is open to the public, the course could use some directional signage. And fairway markers.
We will play again.
Good Shape
Course conditions and pace of play was excellent.
Some very long par 4’s my wife didn’t care for.
The shape of several greens is odd as you can be on the green by can’t putt without going through the ruff.
Slow Play
We waited on EVERY SHOT. Locals we played with said the pace of play was normally much better.
Good time to play DFGC
I found the course in great shape. Staff was super friendly. Range, chip and putt area also very good.
GPS or signage needed
For those new to the course it can be a challenge to find the next tee or the green ahead. It slows down play.
