Desert Falls Country Club
About
Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 128 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Great Course
We've played this course every year for past 20+ years. Very nice course in good condition
We had 2 groups of young guys ahead of us who were pretty slow and not very considerate of others behind them. Spent a lot of time BS'ing on the t box and on the fairways
Found an internet special at this semi-private club
Course was pretty quiet at 10:15am, guessing that the members were somewhere in cooler temperatures although you couldn’t call 90* real hot. The course was in good shape, tees, fairways and greens and had plenty of contours and interesting holes. 9 and 18 both surprised us with the extent of unseen water hazard.
Slow greens but quick play
The greens were frustratingly slow. Had to put like 5 to 7 feet past the whole just to get the ball near the hole. Yet, I keep coming back to this course for the layout and quick pace of play in the afternoon. I played the entire 18 holes in about 2 hours, so that was nice. All in all, this is a challenging course that will test every part of one's game.
Good course and plenty challenging
I really enjoyed the course. It’s enough of a challenge for a beginner, and really forces you to think about every shot and putt. Lots of tricky undulations, so you can’t just step up and swing away. The facility itself was good; although the clubhouse does need to be updated soon. Overall, the staff was super friendly, and someone even offered to wipe down my clubs while I putt on the 18th! I declined the offer, but it was just a super nice touch. I’ll be going back when I visit Coachella Valley again, and will try the blue tees. Also I have a score to settle with hole 1. 😅
Challenging but fun course
Course was in great condition, some of the biggest greens I’ve ever seen on a golf course. Pin placement for the day felt like a PGA qualifier, but it really made you play all your clubs and take a more technical approach due to various water hazards, and tighter fairways on approaches. Now that I’ve played it, I will absolutely be coming back, and will tell friends about this hidden gem.
Great value and great condition
Great value and very well maintained. Challenging course with long par 3s and 4s. Undulating fairways that require good course management skills with wide forgiving fairways. Worth every penny as a bargain price compared to others,
Worth another shot
The course was in relatively good shape. We played after a long weekend and the grass was clearly not cut for several days. Not really an issue on fairways and rough but the greens were bumpy and extremely slow. The greens are large with some challenging slope to them and I look forward to giving it another try with cut and rolled greens.
shaggy rough, no gps or yardage markers which made it a little challenging.
no cart girl or snack stand which is lame!!!
Nice golf, nothing else
Other than the two fellows in the pro shop who took our money and the very friendly and informative starter, we essentially saw no one. There was a foursome ahead of us, my buddy and I and that’s it. We never saw anyone behind us, the snack shack was closed so we couldn’t get anything after nine and there was no cart person for on course service. It would have been nice to get a snack or beer but there was nothing. We finished our round and no one was there so we left the cart, took our clubs and walked to our vehicle. The course was great but there’s plenty of room for off course service.
Constant waiting!
So much so we gave up at hole #10! It was not the 2-some in front of us, but a group before them with 4 carts - constantly ‘gathering’! I was surprised there was not a Marshall monitoring play. There are far better courses for the $ in this area.
