Desert Falls Country Club
About
Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 128 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Golfer Reviews
GPS or signage needed
For those new to the course it can be a challenge to find the next tee or the green ahead. It slows down play.
Really fun design. Exceptionally interesting green complexes. Could use a little bit more tender, loving care. But for the price, compared to other courses, well worth it.
Happy with the course
We stayed on the grounds with some friends and I tried out the course. Rented clubs. New Srixons and not a bad price! Like $55? . Better than lugging my clubs out. But the course was beautiful!!! There is a lot of water but the yardage book gives good warnings on layups. Like 18 you barely have 5 yds to work with so believe what it says! I played the whites but probably could have survived the blues. Had a lot of 150 yd shots into the greens. You can’t beat these views. Snow capped mountains. Just stunning. Get a hot deal and definitely try out this place.
Waited on EVERY SHOT!
Pace of play frustratingly slow. No marshals to tell people ahead to pick up the pace.. Started at 12:30 pm and played many years ago; but never had this problem.
Nice Course
Course is in excellent condition. It has several challenging holes with bunkers and water protecting the greens, but overall plays quite fair. We would definitely play again if a reasonable price is available.
Good course and great fairways.
Played this course twice in a week and thoroughly enjoyed the course. My wife and I had a drink on the patio before we started at 2:00 PM. The bar service was extremely friendly and made you feel welcome. Would definitely recommend this course and the bar/patio. Again the fairways were great and the greens were a bit slow but not bad. All in all it was a pleasure,
Desert Falls II
First time playing was a couple of years ago just before course closure. So glad to see it when it was green. Fairly open fairways with challenging greens which rolled good. Great clubhouse & lounge.
Great course, terrible price
I thought it was expensive when I booked $150 plus 10 for balls. The 2 people I played with paid 100 and the other 106. Be careful not to overpay.
