Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 145 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Overpriced
Challenging but tired. Carts have no gps so difficult for first timer to know distances. Too hard to see 150 yard markers. Pace was excellent. Snack bar closed at turn. We did manage to get some very good sandwiches delivered to us on 11th green. I do not think I will golf here again Not good value.
Not worth the price
No food on course snack bar was closed at the turn and no one informed us off this at check in. no one told us we would have to order from the restaurant if we wanted food. the rough looked as it had not been cut in 2 weeks extremely disappointed in the staff.
Desert Falls
Only complaint is the inconsistent conditions from hole to hole. This showed up on both fairways and greens.
Dining and kitchen close too early to catch a cocktail or dinner after later play!
Not a fan
Played the course a month ago and condition of the course not as good
Sand traps perimeter vertical cut making shots impossible if near edge. Not fair
A number of holes have water near green. Back nine tougher with some fairways sloping to trouble.
It's a challenge
I have played here several times and the more you play the more you like it. Grows on you. Make sure to have GPS your first time playing or you will find trouble where you wouldn't expect it. The restaurant and bar service is very good too.
Nice layout, but the “rough” is ROUGH.
If the ball does not find the fairway off the tee, plan on a multi-minute hunt to find it. Rye is a good 3” deep and the ball disappears in it. It really needs to be cut back at least an inch and it would speed play and increase enjoyment.
Needs a little tlc
Showed up just before tee time because did not know area. Pro at desk was annoyed at us being “late”. Course was a little rough in places but overall enjoyable
Course was not in good condition. Not very well manicured. No cart service, no Marshall, pace of play slow. $100.00 for twilight not worth it. Played with some very nice members.
Needs TLC
Desert Falls golf course was once our favorite golfing venue. It has certainly lost its appeal over the last while. Fairways were patchy and greens were very slow and furry. Just needs a little bit of TLC.
