River Falls Plantation

This is a very good course, well take care of and of my favorite layouts in SC. Staff is friendly and helpful and will answer any questions you may have.

Greens and tee boxes are in awful shape! Pace of play takes forever. Way too expensive for such a bad experience. Staff wasn't nice. Seems like they don't really try. If you can make it to Spartanburg or Greenville, do it.

This is one of my favorite courses in the Upstate area. At 1PM on a beautiful I only paid $29 as a Senior. This time of year the fairways are sparse, but the greens are as great as they always are. This course has some fairly easy holes that give you a breather, but a number of very difficult, tricky holes that require good shots and good thinking. As with several other Gary Player designs he likes lots of subtle contours around the greens and in the fairways.....some of which help the player and some of which can be difficult to navigate around the green.

We had a 2:20 tee time did not tee off until 3 due to over booking and a problem with an early shotgun start. Only finished 14 holes before dark due to slow play and late start.

Probably wouldn't have played here if it wasn't for the golf now price. Usually this course is a little high.
Course was in good shape especially since we had A LOT of rain prior to playing on this day. Course is always challenging, but fair.

Loved the course, layout was my favorite I have played in the Upstate area. Was not impressed with the staff. Pro shop and starter were rude. Teed off in the pouring rain and asked for extra towels to keep my seat and hands dry and was told they didn't have any. What golf course doesn't have towels? My guess is they treat their members with respect and the public play gets treated poorly. Also some veryyy slow foursomes were holding up singles. And no help from the pro shop.

Good course very challenging just was so wet the rain yesterday but still enjoyed the round.

This course is in awesome shape. Staff are super friendly, and the pace of play is blazingly fast

1.Course was in fantastic shape for November.
2. Distance was very fair and just the right amount of challenging
3. Bunkers weren't in fantastic shape, could use some maintenance
4. Greens were great, but rolled incredibly slow. Not necessarily a complaint, but was frustrating to keep leaving them short.
5. Staff was incredibly friendly
6. Pace of play was solid.

Every hole is different and carved out of the terrain all by itself. Some holes had lengthy treks between greens and tee boxes. Lots of elevation changes, some blind shots. Strategic plays of the tee, but not a total target type course where you have to meter each shot. Some fairways narrow, but in general landing areas were fair. Love to play this again.

Many beautiful holes on this pretty hilly course. Weather was poor so cartpath golf made for very long round. Inability to ride fairways and drive down to see what was ahead affected our play.
Cartpaths are very bumpy and makes for a rocky car ride.
Greens of Diamond Zoysia were very smooth but challenging.
If the sun ever comes out we would like to give it another shot.

I played the River Falls Plantation course on 9/24/15. The par 72 course is advertised as a Gary Player signature course. The course is located about 3 miles off I-85 and was easy to find.

I played the Player tees which is one of five tees available. The Player tees play to 6,520 yards with a rating of 72.0 and slope of 137. The various tees play from 6,520 yards to the Ladies tees (their designation, not mine) of 4,697 yards with a rating of 67.2 and slope of 116.

The design is excellent! The layout is not overly long, but is tight and features a lot of significant elevation changes. While the course opens with a slightly uphill par four, most of the holes seems to play more downhill. As a result of the design, this is not a course that would be easy to walk because there are many houses lining the course and significant distances between the greens and the next tees.

Every hole was different from any other and presented unique and scenic, but fair challenges. I found myself on many of the holes taking pictures of the hole or saying ‘wow, this is really pretty’. Because of how tight the holes were, this is not a course I felt comfortable trying to cut loose with big swings off the tee and instead focused on keeping the ball in play and leaving a second shot of a comfortable distance.

Service

I found this course by doing some internet research the night before and reading reviews by other players. The pro shop attendant and starter were very friendly. The pro shop employee handed me a very detailed Course Guidebook that, in addition to my Sky Caddie, was an outstanding source of information on the design, yardages, and recommendations for shot making throughout the course.

There was cold drinking water about every four holes. I did notice only one bathroom facility located at the confluence of the cart paths coming from the 7th and the 16th holes. Although there are a lot of houses around the course, the cart paths go through a lot of wooded areas with a lot of secluded trees.

Overall Condition

The course was in excellent condition throughout all eighteen holes. All of the fairways and roughs were well tended. The greens were a little slower than I have played all year, but they were all plush, firm, void of marks, and putted truly.

I did notice that the tee boxes were very small and sometimes uneven in terms of footing.
Clubhouse/Amenities

This course has a restaurant, clubhouse, driving range, and practice green. I had no time to use the driving range or any of the other facilities. The clubhouse does have a nice porch around it from which you have a nice view of the finishing holes for each nine.

Value

I played the course at 11:30AM at a rate of $42. I could have picked up an online tee time the night before for less money but did not do so because the weather forecast was questionable for the day with rain coming in. Fortunately, the rain drops did not start to fall until the 18th hole and only very lightly. The experience with this course made the fact that I paid more than I could have a non-issue because I got a great design, conditioning, and service in return for my money.

In summation, I felt like I had discovered a real treat by doing a little internet research the night before. I was so pleased with everything about the course that I went back into the pro shop and talked to three employees that were there to commend them on the venue.

It was great day and course to play. I play with very beginner. We were never bothered. No waiting for us and the group behind us as well. Great experience as always.

Best course around!! Tee to green excellent condition. Two of the greens were bad off but besides that it's amazing. Perfect greens and wonderful layout made a rainy day beautiful. Very pleased golfer. Will be back soon for sure.

The biggest problem we had were the greens were very slow.
All of us had a problem getting the putts to the hole.
The course is in good shape other wise.

Challenging, not a course you can grip and rip it, takes some course management. I love playing the.course.

The course was in really good shape I play here all the time but this is the best I've seen it in several years. There's maybe two greens on the back nine that are under construction but I think they will be fine with time
