Ghost Creek
The course was in good shape despite being aerated. I would still recommend playing it at least once. I can now check it off my bucket list.
Wet and brown
I agree with others when they say how swampy it's been although it's May and still pretty wet and now it's also brown. I have never seen this course in these conditions in the 20 years I've played here. Staff is usually friendly and accommodating but it was disappointing to see this place look this bad.
Classy facilities
The club house and driving range are first rate, the course layout is as good as the location can offer, meaning it's in the middle of farmland with just hills and trees, a couple of artificial ponds hugging a couple of fairways, nothing taking your breath away like #4 or #15 of Heron Lakes Great Blue at half the admission price, so I can only recommend it if you have a Golfnow special.
Great Course, Tough Early Spring Conditions
I always look forward to playing this course when I travel to Oregon from Colorado and spend a couple of months here in the spring. Staff couldn't be more friendly and accommodating as they were on this visit. Great driving range and putting green. The greens on the course were truly exceptional--best I've seen of the 5 courses I've played during this visit--and the fairways were in pretty darn good shape after what nearly all the locals say was the roughest winter conditions they had ever seen. The rough, however, was extremely thick and deep and any ball hit into it was at risk of not being found. Hitting out of it was nearly impossible and, as a 14-handicapper--I faced a lot of impossible shots. I finally took to just lifting and placing the ball on top of it. All that said, I'm looking forward to playing the course again in a couple of weeks after I've started hitting the ball more accurately and/or the rough has been trimmed down.
Uncharacteristic conditions
This was not a typical round at Pumpkin Ridge. They had no been able to mow a great portion of the course. The rough was beyond penal. Most of the 4th fairway had not been mowed in recent history. Not only were good shots not rewarded, but several balls were lost in the fairway. It was like golf and an Easter egg hunt combined. It would have been nice to have been aware of the conditions ahead of time.
Swampy Mess!!
This is normally a great course and I always love to play here. However, yesterday 3/27/26 was pretty nasty. The rough is 10 inches tall and #4 you might as well skip playing as it is a swampy disaster!! Greens were in poor shape as well. I would wait until later in the summer to play this course. But, on #15 by the restrooms looking over at a hole on WitchHolllow course the course was groomed really nice. I wish they would do the same for the GhostCreek course but the management at Pumpkin Ridge could careless about what the course is like for the public paying customers!.. Just saying..
Never again in the spring!!!
Pumpkin Ridge is completely unplayable! I lost 15 balls in the Fairway and rough, I never hit one out of bounds the day I played. I will never ever ever play this course again before it dries out. I would also never ever ever recommend this course to anyone I know this time of the year. Yes, we have had a lot of rain here in Portland this year but I have played this course in March before and for some reason I have never learned. This year was definitely the worst it's ever been but really not much better in years past this time of the year..
BTW for whatever it's worth, this is the first online review of any kind I have ever made...
Course was unpllayable
I never had written a review before. But I feel I should warn other golfers about Pumpkin Ridge. The course was literally unplayable. It was so swampy you could not even walk in many areas. They did not cut the grass so around the fairways the grass and weeds were about 4-9 inches long.
Playing in the Northwest in winter spring months you have to expect poor course conditions. I have played courses for many years at this time of year and understand the liabilities of the conditions. But Pumpkin Ridge was so unplayable it was a complete waste of time and money. At the turn I requested a rain check. Denied with side order of extreme rudeness. Save your money as there are multiple courses in much better shape and value. Do not support a course that takes your money unfairly, provides a terrible product, and have the staff insult you.
Muddy in March
Course was great for MARCH CONDITIONS!
Greens were fast for time of year and very undulating. Fairways drained great for how wet it's been. My advice for spring play is stay in the fairway.
Uh, I do not think so !
Wet, wet, wet!
Greens; good shape. Fairways; 60% casual water. Rough, even worse. Stay away until May at least. Good price, soggy conditions.
do not play this course outside of warm dry summer weather
I play golf year around in all kinds of weather including soggy fairways. In 15 years I never played a course this time of year in worse condition. The fairways were extremely soggy, easy for a drive to plug in the middle of the fairway deep enough to completely hide. Thats unavoidable. What is avoidable is telling golfers up front that the grass just off the fairways is soaked and 6 to 8 inches deep and you should expect to lose 15 or twenty balls. Hitting out of soggy grass that deep is nearly impossible. Our play was a bit over 5 hours with the extra hour spent trying to locate balls. Just a reminder, the top tour pros don't keep all the shots in the fairway either. The staff emplyee agreed that golfers should have been told up front about conditions, but said he didn't want to turn away business. Guess What! He just ;lost ours.
A Must Play When in Portland Area
About 30 minutes from the airport, an easy drive to the west. Rural setting was a pleasant surprise that close to Portland. Would classify this as a strong daily fee / resort level course capable of testing good players. Some holes are hemmed by trees, others more wide open and with expansive views. Ample room off the tee and a fun track for our group.
Great Fall Ball Play
Ghost Creek is one of best layouts in the Portland metro area and I throughly enjoyed a nicely paced 4 hour round, the course is in great condition. The greens were healthly, rolled a little slow due to a slight bit of residual sand and softness but rolled true. Excellent value, can't beat the GolfNow Hot Deal rate!
Plugged
Great time, great price, but they didn't have the fact that they aerated the greens on Golfnow.
Disappointing
Disappointing overall in regards to the condition of the course. I had played Hawks Prairie woodlands the day before @42$ and the conditions were superior. I am not sure if Pumpkin is having a hard time with the weather this summer but the course looked bad!
Very good course but lousy rental clubs
I emailed the course and asked about rental clubs before booking a tee time. I was told the course provided the latest set of Nike Vapor clubs. Not so. Instead I received a beaten up set of very old, very used Nike Covert clubs. The set even included a 7 iron with a woman's flex graphite shaft while the rest of the irons were men's regular flex steel shafts. Fortunately I discovered it on the driving range and got it exchanged before playing the course. Very good course but don't appreciate being told one thing but receiving clubs that should have been destroyed long ago.
Not worth the price
Way to expensive for an average course. Staff was not informative, there is no course layout on the score card, the greens were spungy showing hundreds of foot prints very difficult to putt & play was very slow.
Decent course but
For some reason it was cart path only. No hole guide on the card or hole mark on the tee box. On some holes you had to guess where you were hitting to. Good pace of play until we made the turn. They let a 2 some and 4 some off in front of our turn. It was 1 1/2 hr front and 2hr back. And this was without prior course knowledge. Greens were moderate speed.
Lots of divots on the tees and fairways
I didn't think the course was worth the money.
For $95 I expected a motorized cart to be included.
Wolf Creek includes carts where I paid $100. Much better golf course and more spectacular. Played the Blue Course at Heron Lakes today for a fraction of the price and enjoyed the course more.
Pronghorn Golf Experience Package
Pumpkin Ridge is basically marginal (swampy ) farmland sold to a golf company for cheap. The joke is that if you see Pumpkins growing you know the farmer abandoned any real crops because of bad soil. Pumpkin Ridge might be the most overrated course in the NW.
I agree with you as I was there on 3/27/16 as well. It was a bloody wet, swampy and nasty mess. Save your money and go play at round at the Reserve!!
