Always fun, but a little dry
The course is almost always in great condition. I hadn't played there in a while. It's been a very dry summer here and the course was showing it. Lots of dry spots off the fairways, which is fine. More dry spots than I've witnessed ON the fairways, though. Even some on the greens, although they were really pretty good and true. I really blame the dryness more on the hot summer than on the greenskeeping crew.
Also the greens were hard to read for me. Lots of putts where I had no clue on break, and even a couple where I completely read the wrong direction. More play here would help.
Overall a great experience, and I got a GolfNow Hot Deal!
At its Peak in the Summer
For years I've played Pumpkin Ridge occasionally in the fall or spring, the course does not hold up well in wet conditions. This was my first time playing in peak August conditions.
First and foremost the tee boxes, fairways and greens were in fantastic shape. The greens were especially true and firm.
The course itself can be difficult if you are errant off the tee, it's important to play smart on a lot of the holes. The course is also very walkable and getting out early means getting done in 3 hrs and 40 minutes.
Overall, the facilities are great, course is great, but it is a bit of a drive from Portland, and it's pricy in the peak times as well. Try to find a deal online if possible.
Best in Portland area
This course is ranked as one of the best in Portland area. Course condition was great, green was smooth and fast.
Poo
Not worth it. Supposed to be the best But it can't hold it's own against even mediocre courses. We saw one marshal whose sure we knew it was cart path only but none to make the pace faster than five hours.
challenging as usual
I had the chance to play this course, a once a year special occasion for me, yesterday. The weather worked out quite well inspite of a threat of rain earlier in the day. Greens, fairways and tees were in awesome shape. Rough was deep but playable. Overall a great day and at the $55.50(50% off) thru this site it was an outstanding value.
A Great Golf Experience
If you are in the area, play this course. Great design, good conditions and very friendly staff. Warning: this is a tough course. Several holes have approach shots where if you are a little off line you're looking at a double for sure. But if the weather is okay you'll enjoy a great day of golf.
Excellent Track !
From start to finish, this is a great golf experience. The Starter was a good fellow, sorry don't remember the name. He loaned his pull cart (all the course's pull carts were out) to one of the guys we were paired up with who's own pull cart had a flat tire. The course: fairways are generous enough, you can get a little crooked but don't get wild or the aforementioned rough will cost you strokes. The greens accepted well spun shots but were firm enough and rolled fast & true. There is not a scruffy patch of dirt anywhere on this course, it is in prime condition. The layout was interesting and memorable. And no more cart path only restriction. This is a walkable course, we had 36 to play that day so glad our rate included cart. So weekend play for under $100, jump on it and you won't be disappointed..they can ask $140 and get it. The new clubhouse appears near completion and will enhance the whole experience. This track lives up to it's championship heritage. Certainly will be more in the future. Thanks !
Great Course
The course showed no signs of the recent aerating. IN GREAT SHAPE. Got a good deal. We are looking at the $99 card for 55 and older. Seems like a good deal. A long course, got on most par 4 greens in three, so lots of par chances. Long par threes, on in two. Don't let the length scare you off. Some construction in the pro shop building, look as if the new pro shop will be top notch. If you end much past 5 PM good chance the grill will be closed, we just made it in time to get a drink and dinner. Nice beverage cart service. You will enjoy this course.
Great golf course.
The green were still healing from aeration but was still a great time. The rough around this course is no joke. Stay on the fairway haha. Great hole lay out as well
Pumpkin Ridge Punched
end of May - great weather - course had chemicals applied - all greens just punched and slow - wait will at least mid June if you want excellent conditions - $40 with cart made round acceptable - but certainly a disappointment compared to past outings
Check first on course conditions before playing!
My wife and I spent $180 for what we thought was going to be a great golf experience at Pumpkin Ridge, but instead turned out to be a disappointment. The fairways and greens had been plugged and sanded. We understand and appreciate that this process is necessary to getting the course ready for great summer play. We would have appreciated a "warning" type notice prior to submitting payment. We love playing Pumpkin, but when your ball is always covered with sand and putting on the greens is about "bang" it out and pick up, then it is no longer golf.
Hope to come back soon.
First time playing here. Very nice course, with a very walkable layout. This course costs much more $ than average. We had a deal that included a cart, but carts must stay on path only…I'd walk next time. Tee to greens in very nice condition, though quite lush with thick rough... Very well maintained. Cool temps, showers off and on made it a soggy day, and some breezy holes added to our challenges. The slow group ahead had us waiting on almost every hole, should play easily in under 4 hours... but it was still a fun round at a very good course. Will definitely be back..
Twilight special not that special ?
Had a T time for my son an law and myself at 2:40 pm, there was a frost delay of 1 hour an a half! that would have been fine but they had Scheduled a full course Scramble that started 2 hrs late at 10 am, the scramble took 6 hours and 45 min ???? We didn't get on the course till 4:30 pm almost 2 hrs late , No we only got to play 13 holes account of darkness ??? And no comp of any kind ??? Told that was the chance I took playing Twilight ??? Not happy with the starter, liked the rest of the staff
Phenominal
It was amazing to see the contrast between the tee boxes, fairways, and greens. This course definitely stands out in my mind as a golf course I could play continously.
Great Course
This is an excellent course that is well run and in great shape. Solid practice facility that was included in our round was great, we arrived early enough to take advantage of it and warm up. Tee boxes, fairways, were all in great shape. The greens are very challenging but make for a fun round. Loved the course layout too, worth the visit.
course is fun to play
The course is Peaceful, relax, and fun to play. The greens and fairways are well kept. And it had a good scenery.
Poor conditions
Poor conditions on the day we played. Ball plugged on almost every shot. Mother nature also did not cooperate. Foggy for the first 12 holes. Tough when playing for first time.
Worst experience in 48 years of playing golf
My son and I traveled from LA area to Portland to play both Pumpkin Ridge and the Reserve. We had a 740 tee time at Pumpkin but when we arrived the computer system was down causing us to pay cash and not get off until 800. They were putting groups off both 1and 10 and we were paired with a twosome who had traveled from San Diego. It was very foggy but we played through it on the front 9. On 10 tee the marshall drives us and tells us we have to finish the back in 1 hr 30 min. The rushing was a problem with our entire 4some's game. On 14 the marshall returns and tells us to skip 14 and 17. We knew nothing about a tournament and were disgusted.
After the round we all went into the pro shop to ask for a refund only to be told that we knew about the tournamnet and they weren't going to do anything. The staff was dismissive and the lack of any interest or concern was palpable. They took our names and numbers and were told we woukd get a call to disccuss the matter. No one called.
Don't play here, for the money the Reserve is a much better round.
Thanks for the tip on walking versus cart. Just made a tee time for 5/17, first time playing there, and due to your comments we will be walking and saving $16 x 2. I would be annoyed if I paid for cart only to find out it's path only. I imagine it's the type of course that when it's path only, there is no benefit to a cart. Cheers!
