Course in terrible shape. Play in the summer when there is grass.
This might be the only course in the valley that they don't overseed. Instead they PAINT the fairways. Dry dead grass and lot of "ground under repair". Greens are sandy and in poor shape as well.
While I like the course layout, it can be dangerous. A lot of fairways are side by side with balls flying all over the place.
Decent value in the summer, avoid in the winter.
Not that good
Have played this before and thought it was good for the money, but saw they paint their fairways instead of overseeding for the winter months. Really disappointed.
Would be a great course if pace of play was quicker, and fairways were not painted green. It was a little obnoxious. Gas carts also.
It was fun, but the fairways were painted green and for the money paid it could have been in better shape.
It's OK if you don't mind playing in the sand, as in fairways and greens.
This course has not seen a drop of water since last summer, except for the rain. They have applied green color to all the fairways and greens, and everything is dry, dry, dry. It's really difficult to put on sand, but that's what you must do if you play this course.
Nice design
Had some really well designed holes. No overseeding so you're playing off dormant grass from the fairways.
Liked the layout of the course and it was a very good value compared to other area courses.
Greens were in good condition. Water came into play on a number of holes. Shorter par fours usually had well placed bunkers or narrow fairways where the desert came into play.
freindly yet some holes are challenging
a lot of dead grass in roughs and some greens bumpy otherwise a fun course.
Great views!
I have played the course many times over the years. Although it was not in the best condition, it is always a great value!
slight upgrade from a driving range
uo to 3 groups waiting for tee off at holes,no marshals.sand traps rock hard
Several approach shots very challenging!!
Super great staff! Much better turf than the typical green but thin overseeded courses.
pretty challenging course with difficult bunkers and elevation changes
grass looks seedy but is that time of year, lots of bunkers, few flat putts and you need to be playing pretty well to score
No overseeded fairway but grass still good for iron shots.
Needs some work but good for the price. Would play again.
Great Experience
VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE! GREAT VALUE / GREAT VIEWS / GREAT CENTRAL LOCATION.
bad round
Close to the worst round of golf I have played in 20 years. Course condition was awful. They did not over seed for winter. Fairways & greens were PAINTED GREEN! Putting was like guessing which way the ball was going to break. I asked a staff member, prior to teeing off, what condition the greens were in; he replied they were excellent. I think all courses need to be honest re: their conditions before anyone books a time. Looked like a bargain @ $30.00; guess you get what you pay for; I have played course in the past; maybe never again.
Get what you pay for.
I'll start by saying I had a lot of fun at Vistal. It was a fairly easy course with some great views of South Mountain and the skyline of metro Phoenix. The staff was friendly, the amenities were nice, and I can say enough about the views. The track was rather easy, probably put together for the recreational golfer rather than the serious, but there were a few holes that were fun, including a long par 3 on the back.
The course, as I wrote in the summary, you get what you pay for. The fairways were just the same grass and cut equally to the rough, the fairways are just spray painted lime green so you know the difference. The greens are shaggy, but still rolled pretty well. There's a bunch of course maintenance going on, but there were plenty of signs letting us know. The bunkers were really inconsistent, one would be fluffy sand and the next, concrete. Also, if you look at a satellite image you'll note the setup is somewhat like a CC layout in some parts. That plus the price that attracts a certain type of golfer, many times we had people in our fairway going the other way. Last, pace of play was dreadfully slow...but it was a beautiful day with beautiful views so I'm not complaining.
playing as under construction
The tees and greens are the real green but the fairways are painted the color close the green. The greens were firm, there was not a lot of watering going on. But the price was fare to what we played on.
the course needs more grass in rough areas
I like the less sand traps to speed up play. need to have a pace of play marshall on weekends.
Terrible conditions
Course was in bad shape. They did not oversees and fairways are painted green. Grass is dormant and they should let you know before you pay.
a challange to say the least
greans heavely guarded by deep bunkers , bring your best green reading eyes , fairway bunkers hard as a rock, play the cource smartly and its fun
This course keeps you on your toes!
For being a woman golfer who is trying to get her handicap down, I found this course challenging but not overwhelming. It was a fun challenge and I loved every minute. The key is to keep the pace moving.
Tough course with lots of potential
This course has some very challenging holes with some difficult bunkering and fast greens. However, the bunkers were rock hard due to sand compaction from the lack of deep raking and had many stones. Many were full of piles of sand yet to be spread. Overseeding has only been done on the greens and tee boxes! The fairways have dormant Burmuda grass that has been sprayed with a green dye. Very strange. Would not play here again in the winter. Might be better in the summer but I'll never know.
