Vistal Golf Club
the greens were in poor condition, the fairways look like they had been painted....
Good track; condition could be better.
This is a good course for the money, challenging holes, great scenery, good greens. The bunkers, however, are virtually unplayable; no sand, hardpan below a fine layer of silt.
okay, course for the money
The fairways were not overseeded, so the grass is dormant and painted green . Course has a nice layout, and really could be a wonderful course, if it had been overseeded. But for a normal green fee for under $30, great place to keep your game up
Don't waste your time or your money.
Overall the worst course I've played since the "goat track" in North Carolina. The fairways are not over seeded, dirt and rocks in the bunkers (not sand), too much sand on the very hard greens. The reason for not over seeding the fairways was to "keep the fees down" by a staff member. The course needs new management and renovation, don't waste your time or money at Vistal, play somewhere, anywhere else.
Great layout but painted dormant Bermuda fairways in winter
I love the layout of this course and during the spring/summer/fall it is a wonderful course. This year, however, they didn't overseed the fairways and simply painted the dormant Bermuda grass green. For nearly $50, I should at least be able to hit off real live grass. There are lots of $50 courses that did overseed, which makes this a poor value in the winter.
Great views and challenging greens!
Played here the day after I played the Raven and Foothills. The views are excellent and the pace of play was very good. Due to a miscommunication with the bev girl, we didn't see her until the 8th hole, but she was apologetic and was super nice. The fairways were dormant bermuda spray painted green, which we though odd, but it didn't affect play as they were still fluffy and not hard at all. I will say the greens were very challenging - only 1 birdie the entire day from our entire foursome because trying to get a read was very difficult, and since none of us have played here often/recently we were left to our own judgement. Since this course is up against the South Mountains, the views of downtown Phoenix and the mountain views were superb, and there were also a lot of elevated tees and greens, especially on the back nine.
Great Course to play
We had a very good round of golf at Vistal. The rate a play slowed some due to a foursome a few groups ahead of us but they dropped at the turn so pace picked up on the back 9. Course needed some work as it looked like they removed some sand traps and have not planted grass yet. Greens are very fast and the sand traps a hard packed so it is easy to get out of them. Only a few houses near the course on the front nine and one hole along a road. Staff was very nice
very quiet, great setting against hills, good views.
Course in good shape, very peaceful, staff are excellent, enjoyed the round.
A Very nice course.
The course is in nice shape and played kind of hard,we had rain the day before so the bunkers were not in the best shape but as the day went on they were constantly working on them so they should be better now.
Overall a good track with a mix of tough/easy holes.
Vistal is one of the better values in the Phoenix area. It is generally one of the lower priced courses in the valley, but remains well kept and playable. Situated at the foot of South Mountain, it offers views and moderate terrain changes. With its desert style layout, it carries a stiff penalty on most holes for missing the fairway. The greens are usually pretty quick, but do hold and roll pretty true.
Very nice
Nice old fashioned desert course--friendly staff and greart value for money
Good value, needs a little attention
Vistal is definitely a good value for the dollar but they need to address some changes made to the golf course. Recently they removed several fairway bunkers to make the course more user friendly but have not finished the process thus leaving you with several areas of "ground under repair" on the course. They play the course with dormant fairways during the winter months with tees and greens overseeded which is no big deal and actually makes the golf course play firmer and faster !!
Love the course. Great value. Why are you removing many of the sand traps? Destroys the character of a great course!
I play there most of the winter because of the value. Why are you removing many of the sand traps? Destroys the character of a great course!
It's too bad the city courses have not caught on to value. If I can play a great course for $35 or a city course for $45- duh!
Great course - fairways could use some attention
I enjoyed the course, the layout was challenging and fun but I had some really bad lies in the fairway. Aside from the fairways every aspect of this course was perfect, including the staff who were very friendly.
I will definitely come back in the spring to play on live grass.
Course is in great shape
The course is in great shape with the fairways cut short for winter and the greens accepting shots and putting nicely.
nice greens
Greens rolling great, fairways not over seeded for great roll yet not hard as concrete. Nice view of mountains and downtown
good layout, greens in great shape and subtle breaks.
If you're looking for a place where you can bring great golfers and mediocre golfers this is a very good selection. Affordable to boot.
good course for the price
Fairways were a bit springy. Greens were fast. Overall it was pretty good
Great value.
Greenside bunkers have no sand. They are unplayable and
at LEAST a 1 shot penalty if not more.
Very nice course with excellent features. Good but detached staff
Nice course and well maintained with many challenges. Slow play and staff not engaged in that aspect. Would recommend to others
