A July sunrise tee time at The Foothills GC in Phoenix. Photo submitted by baddfish2 on 12/21/2012
Fabulous golf course with hillside setting
Besides being in top course condition, Foothills was a real hidden gem, easy enough to get to along the 101 and 202 freeways fairly direct from Scottsdale in about 30 minutes. They had live music at happy hour on the Friday I played, and it was rocking! A great time was had by all, and the staff was so friendly and gracious.
Quick afternoon round, major improvement but still in transition
Was looking for a quick round on way between Casa Grande and North Phoenix. Found this teetime on Teeoff for a reasonable rate. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate that day with major thunderstorms overhead for an hour and a half. Probably should have been a horn to get people off the course or take shelter but didn’t come. As well, cart path only for full course, not sure why.
Read the reviews and most were spot on. Fairways were in great condition and have come a long way since i played a year or so ago after Troon took over. Greens though replaced, were very firm and no hold. They did run true, but very long putts for most. Large rocks in some of bunkers i was in. Desert areas could be cleaned up and made more attractive with a layer of crushed granite.
As well, aging neighborhood walls could be spruced up, as it has a reflection on your course.
Overall conditions have improved significantly since i last played, but will continue to improve under Troons management, and as greens become more receptive.
Like the work
I like the work that has been been put in in restoring the course. My only issue playing on Saturday was that the tee boxes need some series work, several holds tough to find grass to tee around the many divots and find a level stance. I am sure this will be corrected in the future, but this was the only issue. I will be back.
Great Course Conditions and Fun Track
Played on Jan 4 2026, which is definitely high season for the greater Phoenix area, however, we were able to book about 10 days in advance and got a rate of $65 through GolfNow. This is my second time playing Foothills GC, with the first time being a couple years ago. The course was is better shape this time around and it made the round that much more enjoyable. Staff was friendly and the entire course was in really good shape. If you are a decent/good golfer play the Blue tees, makes the holes just the right challenge/total yardage. We had a great time on a really nice day at a really good golf course.
Greens are unplayable
I’m a +1 handicap for reference - greens are so hard you can’t hold wedges from the fairway. I know they redid them in the last year, and they’re still at least 6 months away from being playable. Think I hit about 5 GIR because of this - GolfNow should really have a warning to golfers about this.
Forgiving course great value except one issue.
Wonderful course staff conditions pace of play. One issue is the permanent cart path rule on 18. No reason for it but easily adds an extra 10 minutes to the hole. Its not a safety issue because the 9th hole is virtually the same layout. 17 great holes then the ridiculous ruled 18th. Nobody seems to know why the rule is there except its always been like that.
Nice course
Foothills is in great shape. Enjoyed my round of golf. Look forward to playing it againDavenp
Greens are not good. Rock hard like cart path. Number 1 and number 18 are CPO for no reason and results in slower than usual play time.
Worst course setup in history
what clown decided the overwatering the fringes and keeping rock hard greens that won’t hold a wedge was a good idea? you sent setup links golf greens and take away the run up shot
ground under repair all over the course not market. the grounds super should jump off a cliff this guy is clueless
Trim Rough on 18th hole
Course is in GREAT condition . Only complaint cut the rough on 18th hole. It is CPO and when looking for ball in tall rough holds up play behind you and having to walk back to the cart.
Great recovery
Great layout and design . Really fun to play and like all
Top notch, first class
Too many tiers of player categories. Just include range balls with all green fees!?
Greens too hard
The greens play more like cart path than grass. Everything else about the course is nice. But the greens make it borderline unplayable. If you don't really care about golf, then this won't matter much to you - go knock the ball around. But this will frustrate more advanced golfers.
