Washoe Golf Course

About
Founded in 1917, Washoe Golf Course is the oldest golfing facility in Reno. The layout has small greens and tree-lined fairways, but the fairways are wide and flat making them fairly forgiving. There are water hazards and bunkers strategically placed throughout. The mature landscape is carefully maintained with an elaborate sprinkler system that ensures that the course is green and ready for play all year round. Washoe Golf Course also has PGA Professionals on staff to help with individual or group instruction and extensive practice facilities that include a generous putting green, driving range, and a chipping area with practice bunker.

A muni gem
Washoe, like many muni courses, gets a LOT of play. Being that it is winter also doesn't help, but for the most part, except for a few fairways or greens, it was in good condition. The front nine is mostly flat and wide and then, when you get to the back nine, it challenges you.
It is always fun to play and is on my course rotation for Reno.
Washoe, good for the money
It is a muni course, not a private open to the public or private member only course. As a muni, it receives a lot of traffic. However, that said, the staff keeps the players moving, the conditions are good enough and there are several challenging holes to test even scratch golfers, which I am not!
If you walk, which I have done in the past, be warned that the nearly flat front 9 is deceiving and the back 9 is much more up and down small hills and gullies.
It is a good course that I play often and so should you!
This course needs better maintenance
It is not well marked and course conditions are such that there are a lot of uneven surfaces making for very bumpy rides throughout.
Very Long for Women
One reason I very seldom play Washoe is it is very long for Women. It’s about 400-500 yards longer than most of the courses I play here and in Florida. I don’t know why they don’t get with the times. For that reason I would not recommend it to any women I know.
Poor condition
The greens were punched and the debris were not removed. The greens were in terrible condition and it was not informed. It was waste of money playing there
Great Tee boxes
Course is a bit hard to follow but the tee boxes were great!!!
Great city course
Wonderful course for target practice with a little obstacle to keep it interesting.
