About
This is the monster of all monsters, the one that carries so many folktales of golfer terror with it that it should qualify as its own myth. The developers asked Pete Dye to make this "the toughest golf course in the world" and many argue he succeeded. Too well.
The Stadium Course at PGA WEST in La Quinta is one of those tracks that any self-respecting golf nut has to play once. Just to experience it. Just to say you did. Just to have stories of golf cruelty to tell at the office water cooler. There's a 19-foot deep bunker on the 16th hole. That's right. A 19-foot deep bunker. Your ball won't get out. Heck, you might not get out. From the back tees it measures 7,300 yards with an incredible 148-slope rating.
Every hole is a story waiting to be told. Either in success to be bragged about or failure to be even more bragged about. The PGA players moaned about this course so loud that it's no longer a regular stop on tour. Yet for average hackers, it's often a joy of punishment. Go in with the right attitude and it's liable to be one of your most unforgettable days of golf.

Played 15. No Marshall… No Pace.. 6+ hr…. $250..
Really? Did that just happen? Only played 15- teed off just after 1. Didn’t see a single Marshall to tell people to hurry up. Hitting multiple balls, multiple putts- not caring about the line up behind them. Very disappointed after playing the Palmer course a few years ago.
No pace= no momentum. Some players gave up and drove by. Was really hoping to play 17th hole…. Got there so late, I didn’t even see it in the dark.
That was a waste of money, and an afternoon. The course looked spectacular, but from hole 3 and beyond… not enjoyable at all. 3 groups per hole…. Was hoping to play the other courses but going somewhere else for the rest of my trip. I can’t do that.

No Value - Over 5 Hour Round
Round took 5 hours and and 15 minutes. Way over pace. No way course expectation should be 4.5 hours. Greens and tees and mostly close together. We waited on every shot for 18 holes. Spoke to 2 rangers on front 9 who did noting. Called shop on back 9 and no staff took action. Staff allowed groups to combine for 6 - 8 people playing holes.
Staff needs to establish 4 hour round pace and enforce it like numerous other $300 round fee courses like Kiswahili, Pinehurst, Whistling Straits, Barton Creek, Tiburon, Sea Pines Resort, Ireland, etc.!!

Fast Greens
Pace of play was excellent. We saw the group in front of us on the 1st hole and then on the 18th. The group behind us, we never saw them. ExIextremely pleasant playing the course. Course in Great shape. Greens Very fast, they were rolling easily a 13. Bring your A-game, every hole is a challenge.

Disappointing
We had a 1 PM tee time, came early. 2 different employees told my husband he could pick something up at the turn outside which was closed.
The pace of play was so slow, no rangers. The group in front of the folks ahead of us, waited every hole to hit until the group they followed were on the green regardless of a par 4 or 5. We waited to hit second shots on every hole except par 3’s. Couldn’t finish the round.
Went in to grab a drink and something to eat. Outside patio was 30% filled and we had a 45 min wait for a table if we wanted to wait and same time to eat inside.
Disappointing for a course of this caliber and expense. Not worth it.

15 Minutes
That is the time BEFORE your tee time when you get your cart. Not to worry since you can carry your own bag back and forth to the range waiting for your cart. So many people you need at least five hours to finish round. Easier to see the course on TV.

Great Conditions and great staff!
Had a great time playing there. First time on the Stadium Course. Staff was outstanding. Showed up as a single and hooked up with two other singles. Had a real good time. Course played as well as it could. Feel real fortunate to get on it a few days prior to the Tour playing on it. Drinks and food at the bar afterwards were fantastic. Great venue. Will definitely play again next time in town. Highly recommend. Bucket list.

Play like the pros
I can see why many pros don’t like this course. Trouble everywhere. Some holes are overboard with trouble, like the moat on hole #5

Links with water...
Course is nice, but not something that I would rate to be a PGA West caliber course. Its a links style with water everywhere. Tight fairways on a few holes, need to be precise off the tee for most of the tee shots, and the bunkers were not consistent (Hard sand one hole, loose the next).
My GPS also told me to stay on the cart path only, but wouldn't show me the hole as I wait on the tee. Would just tell me over and over again that its cart path only. No issues with the cart path only, but the GPS not working on every hole because there's no way to remove the prompt was brutal and takes away from the round.
Its a nice track, but money wise the Mountain course would be my first choice.
PS: Morning times will have the sun directly into you on most of the starting holes. 9:30am onwards might be the best bet to avoid this during the winter months.

Great Track
Great course. Played the tips and although slightly shorter than the card said, the lines made up for the loss of yardage. Greens are true, fairways were cut well. No issues on the course, would play again 100%
