Golfer Reviews
Great course but do the research
If you haven’t played the Babe Course before, make sure to do some homework on their website first. Lots of blind shots and tricky angles. Definitely a shot maker course. But I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t fun and wouldn’t play here again. Greens were in FANTASTIC condition and rolled true. The only gripe I have is the driving range. Mats are old and beat up. But other than that, will definitely be back.
What happened to this place?
C'mon man! This was one of my favorite places to play in LA County because of the challenge of navigating this difficult and beautiful course. But it's gone downhill. It started at the range. I bought 30 balls for $5. Fair enough for warming up...until I looked at the balls. The balls appear over 10 years old. Time to replace them. No dimples left in most of them. The mats? I stopped after 15 balls because there wasn't any padding or green-ness left in them. I was feeling the concrete underneath and didn't want to hurt myself.
Okay, the Babe. Long story short, the fairways and some of the tee boxes are gone. I suspect the large pine trees cast such a shadow that the grass doesn't get any sunshine or it doesn't drain. Either way, this was a first-class facility that isn't anymore. See my picture of the 14th tee box. Sad. One very good positive...the greens are firm and fast and roll well. The greens and bunkering are the best around. Great bones to the course Just wished the owner would restore it to its former glory. I won't return until I see reviews that tell me that it has or is on its way. Again, sad to see this happen to this treasure of a course.
Great day! Course was tough enough, greens rolled very well. I'll be back!
Excellent Hidden Gem
2 courses up here have only tried The Babe twice both times a great experience (well except for my golf) but views of the course and city are amazing .. it’s top notch up here next time I’m going to try the restaurant
Narrow and slow
Babe is the shorter of the two courses but I think is harder because of the very narrow fairways. Mean front staff for some reason today, but usually is better. Very slow today about 10 minute wait on every tee box, but I guess it's due to Ike being closed.
