The Babe is getting worse
I never thought I would ever write anything bad about the Babe (or Ike) but this past Monday I was shocked to see a couple tee boxes under complete repair pushing the blue tees up where the whites would be. Rocks not loose impediments in the bunkers and the fairways with bare spots, fresh and old divots and unrepaired ball marks on the greens...I'm not sure what's going on there. Too much traffic and not enough maintenance? Hard to say but they're drifting towards becoming an average golf course. Or maybe it's the weird weather we've had over the last month or so. I hope it returns back to the spectacular course it once was
5.75 hr round
Almost a six hour round. No marshall on course, called pro shop to ask for a Marshall to come out to observe pace of play to no avail.
Good course going down hill with lack of management and over sight.
New Year’s Eve golf
Course is always great to play. Well taken care course never disappoints. Highly recommend this course to anyone
Been better
Playing from the black tees. Half the tee boxes have barely any grass and are lumpy and not level.
The fairways look terrible, and play equally as bad as they look. The grass is weirdly in clumps and not well maintained, many areas overly shaggy thick or muddy and not very nice to play off.
I have seen the place in better shape in the past few years, which is strange, because we have had a good amount of rain, so the course should be in good shape.
The greens were a bit sandy and on the soft side, but rolled pretty well for the most part.
Bunkers are strange. Some have whiter sand than the others that have the mud type. I didn’t notice that before.
I get that it’s the holidays week, but the pace of play was awful for a Monday. Not acceptable for the first hour’s worth of tee times.
Surprisingly bad conditions
The fairway Bermuda has not been overseeded so it’s running pretty thick and chunky and with quite a tuft of turf layer and clumpy everywhere. . When it gets extra soaked from the rains and the mud underneath seeps everywhere it’s really tough to play on, especially when there is such a huge difference in the grass between the fairway and the rough, the rough being mostly bentgrass. If it’s not for winter rules to be able to move the ball a bit, the not-flat clumpy surface of the fairway with gaps in between the clumps of grass would be really annoying to hit from. It’s hard enough as it is to hit from this stuff as it can be unpredictable even from a cleaned lie because of the way this grass grows when it’s soaked wet and muddy like this.
The tee boxes are, still, trashed! So many of them are just not flat and have barely any grass on them. Which is sad, because that’s how it’s been for years. I don’t get how they can keep having big qualifying events here in these conditions.
The greens had recently been sanded and had a layer of sand under the top surface, the rains had pushed the sand down but the greens played weirdly lumpy and sandy. Not good.
One of my best rounds
We have a corporate membership at Industry Hills and we get together a minimum of once per month to play a round of golf. However there are twelve of us who play on a regular basis and every month we have two and sometime three foursomes. There are two 18 holes golf courses here and we play them both trying to rotate each month unless I had a terrible round, which happens some times and I recommend that we play that course again to prove to the course that I can shoot a good round on it when I concentrate.
The Bebe is shorter but narrower than the Ike course and you have to play position ball on most of the course, There are no individual bets between the players however each of us put in $20.00 and at the end of the round we find out how many pars or birdies were made and held up, In other words if two people pared the same hole that is a push and no one gets credit for that hole however if only one person shoots a par or birdie on a particular hole they win that hole and depending on the number of single pars or birdies that were made that is how the money is divided up. We have played these courses for about 10 years and it is a good experience every time we play,
The courses are always in very good condition and the staff in the clubhouse are always friendly.
We have so much fun playing the courses until when we complete our rounds we go to the restaurant sit down and talk about the round we had and how we will improve our play on that particular course the next time we play. When some of the people in the restaurant here us talking, eating and maybe having a beer some of them will come over and ask if they could join us the next time we play.
Not knowing them we politely say no because we have been playing together for more than 20 years and to this date we have never had anyone to have an argument or disagreement since we have been playing. Oh yes, there are some times when someone will forget a stroke and we have to remind them of that stroke and they agree because we are all friends playing a friendly game and no one ever tries to take advantage of another player and we want to keep it this way.
I tried to get my spouse involved in golf however when we stay at the hotel she prefer to go to the pool and have a meal and swim, tan or just relax.
There is also entertainment at the hotel and we like to gather with our wives and have a good meal and talk about golf while our wives talk about shopping. However some of the guys spouses play golf and they play very well. However, we have to watch our mouths when the ladies play with us because when we hit a shot that we know we could have hit better or gotten a better result we have a tendency to call ourselves a name for making such a poor shot. That happens very seldom, not making a bad shot but calling ourselves a name for making a bad shop. We all know that we are not professionals and we are going to make some awful shots however the great thing about it is we always tell the people we are playing with it is my fault. I can not blame this on anyone but me. I pulled the club back, I pulled it down I struck the ball and it went where I hit it not where someone else hit it.
However all in all we have a great time playing the game and we play at least once a week however at different courses in the Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernadino areas.
The babe
The babe is in excellent condition right. Now, perfect day this morning I’ll be back!
Babe Great Coarse!
Coarse layout is challenging but fair. The day we played coarse was very wet from rain. No complaint for a nice round of golf.
This course was not in good shape.
I was very disappointed because of the shape the course was in. It was very wet and the fairways had dirt spots in many areas. Because of the recent rains they couldn't cut the rough, but they could at least put the pins in some fairer positions. Every single pin was tucked back or front.
Wet and slow
Usually enjoy the challenge of Industry Hills, but the conditions today warrant some comments.
The grounds were especially wet, so cart path only was the rule of the day on every hole. Tee boxes were in good shape as were the greens, but the fairways were soggy and the sand traps very inconsistent. And since the rough was very long and the leaves numerous, much to much time was spent searching for errant shots. So with cart path only and long wet rough ( expect many plugged balls) the round lasted more tha 5 hours.
I hope they will improve conditions this week as the weather permits, but today was the reason there are so many critics of the time it takes to play a round of golf. And, this was on a Monday. Can’t imagine the weekend waits.
Very good course. Traps need more rakes which might encourage players to use them!!
