Pajaro Valley Golf Club
About
Originally designed by Floyd McFarkland, Pajaro Valley Golf Club has large Monterey Pines lining its generous rolling fairways. Elevated tees provide scenic views of the Pajaro Valley below. Opened in 1922 and redesigned in 1962 by Robert Muir Graves, the course features small bentgrass greens and four ponds with water in play on three holes. The fourth is one of the course's most challenging holes, a 420-yard par 4 with triple-tiered green. The course also was once the home of former U.S. Open champion Olin Dutra, who spent the last part of his career teaching here.

Classic Monterey County Golf
Serene and a bit magical this rolling curving course may be a bit crusty on the far edges during the drought but if you keep it down the middle and around the greens it is in very nice condition and a very good challenge of all the shots in your bag. This course rates with Aptos, Pacific Grove and Laguna Seca as must play idyllic Monterey golf with monster trees and the design married to the natural contours of the basic headwaters of Elkhorn Slough which ends at Moss Landing and the Pacific Ocean. Great views of that (no ocean views) on the back nine. Only negative as of now is that the bunkers are a bit inconsistent with some a bit thin on sand but it looks like they are upgrading them with the addition of sand where needed on most.
Great deal
Good course for the price. Will definitely play it again
Edit on my first review
Once again I want to say that Carts if you use them are should be upgraded and the greens have improved but need to be cut to improve the speed of the ball. Carts are few and far between when needed. They are not ready when you need them and sometimes they die on you. On the course you sometimes see 1 or 2 that literally ran out of power. I gather their batterys need to be replaced as they are not keeping their charge. Other than that it is a good value if you join the membership or when you look on GolfNow
bad cart service
Carts are in need of repair. Everyone I play you have to wait for your cart which delays your play and they always stall which you have to call in and maybe you can get another cart. Consistently their always give you that they R as n Out Of Carts even during small reaffic. Not well organized in that regards but the course is improving
Pajaro is pajaro
Been coming here 6 times a year for 30 years. Good value for the money. Pace of play always a issue here, no marshal . Friendly round , good place to break in your game.
Needs Upkeep
The course is in a nice location and resonably challanging. The course as well as the club house are in need of of upkeep/maintenance. Apparently the owner is not anxious to invest the money.
atrocious greens
Greens were very slow bumpy and fuzzy nearly impossible to putt. Fairways were decent.
The greens have recovered well from the problem they had in Feburary.
Value for the money is fantastic. They are doing quite a bit of renovation to the range which should be excellent when finished.
Nice place and friendly folks
The course was long and fun if you play black. Thanks to Golfnow $25 with a cart, tee time was 10 AM, how could you go wrong. The greens was challenging but fair and the the condition of the rest of the course was decent. I just wish it was not too slow and no marshall to speed up the slow folks. When it takes almost 5 hours to complete a game it matters not how great a golf course is.
Great Time
This course is a lot of fun, forgiving fairways, tricky greens some need work but have improved significantly & just all around a nice course to play, practice at, or play with your buddies.
Old Course
In some ways it looks like they have given up. The course needs better maintenance.
Used to be a great place to play
This used to be a well maintained place to play. The greens really need attention. The clubhouse and restaurant need updating.
Friendly locals, save the day !!!
This is always a treat to play. The greens are usually lighting. They had been arrated recently, so they were not as fast as usual. They were in amazingly good shape though. Keeping the ball below the hole is a must @ this track. The Staff member I dealt with, could use work on people skills!! That newspaper was a little more important. Just say'n.... Had a great day and great weather... With new friends..:)
unfriendly clerk at the desk
It was our first time playing at Pajaro, we got there and went in the shop , when I gave the Name of our reservation we just got a head nod. That was all the only words we got out of the clerk were " its $ 4 for the key desposit and that was all no other comment.
Yet that would not stop me for enjoying a nice round of Golf. And still bring or recommend the course.
Needs New Management.
IMO, this course needs a serious overhaul. This Golf Shop is so depressing. Look around and you'll see what I mean.
The course is in terrible shape. The greens have fungus all over them. So sad to see.
Our cart had 4 full sand and seed bottles which I went through on the first 2 holes. That's how bad the fairways were.
I used to play this course a lot a few years ago, but I don't what;s changed in the recent years but this course is on the serious decline. Too bad, this WAS a decent course, and worth the $, but in no way should this course be more than $30.
Course is run down
Booked on Golf Now for 18 holes but could only play back nine. Course in poor condition.
greens are in bad shape
all in all, it was decent. The fairway were as hard as a rock. you really could not take a divot. the greens were difficult due to the fungus or disease that has infected a lot of them. and who ever that guy was at the desk was not very friendly. I used to please at here from time to time. I had a friend that lived in Santa Cruz and it was about half way for both of us. Things certainly have changed.
Corse is not what it used to be.
From tee to fairways it was good, but once around the greens it was another story. There were only 6 greens in good condition, the others varied from poor to hole #14 which they might as well tear it and start over. They've eliminated some sand traps but some of the remaining ones they should label them as ground under repair and allow for a free drop because they had let these go and there were weeds in them and were basically not maintained.
Not much to talk about?
The majority of the holes were not kept up? The tee boxes were not mowed heavy weeds all around
Also needed to be mowed all around. The greens were also in need of attention.
