This course needs an overhaul
This course was horrible, I lost multiple balls due to being poorly maintained. I spent more time looking for my ball than ever hitting my ball. The greens were dead with black spots and weeds all over them. $37 was too much for the tee time . I should’ve asked for my money back because I lost about that much money in balls.
Not the same
I used to play this course all the time. Great last minute booking. Cheap, affordable and worth the value you’re being charged. The course was maintained accordingly however now they have let it go and it is atrocious. Greens are non existent, fairways are not clean or cut. It’s like playing in your backyard and they still charge you the same price they did before. I hate to say it but definitely not going back. It’s a shame to say because the layout is amazing and if it was at least back to how it was I wouldn’t mind paying the price I do for a round of golf for that course as I use to. What a shame that it has gone to waste at this point
What renovations??????
I’d played pinetuck before and it’s always been kind of just a practice course. Greens in bad shape and whatnot. But they closed for several weeks to renovate so I was happy to try it out again! Then yesterday, the fairways were overgrown. It took longer to find balls in the fairway than it took to play the round..and the greens didn’t even have grass on them for the most part. The staff is friendly and the course is still laid out like it always was which is great but the conditions of it all is absolutely horrible. Will not return. We drove an hour and change to play and it wasn’t worth the drive, or the $37.
Horrendous.
This course is not playable. Yea it’s cheap, but it is genuinely not playable. The greens are actual mud piles filled with crab grass and weeds.
PINETUCK IN WET CONDITIONS
THE STAFF IS SUPER NICE BUT THE COURSE NEEDS WORK. THE GREENS ALTHOUGH BEING REPAIRED ARE BARELEY PLAYABLE. ONE GREEN WAS CLOSED. I FEEL AS IF I SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN A VOUCHER TO PLAY A ROUND.
Very bad right now
Greens were half mid. Fairways were like the rough at a normal public course. Apparently had been shut down for two months
Lots and lots of TLC would make it special
The good: This course has a fantastic, challenging layout that separates it from many other nearby courses. The back 9 is particularly difficult, but the front 9 is no bargain either. Also, it can be played at an extremely reasonable price. I like to use it as a practice course to see where my game is at. It will expose you quickly. The staff is also very friendly.
The bad: It pains me to say this because I have a great fondness for this course, but it needs lots and lots of TLC, and I really cannot recommend playing it now. The greens are currently unplayable (either burnt black, cut too high, weed infested, or a combination of all), many of the fairways need cutting (can be tough to differentiate fairways from rough at times), and the rough is US Open like. The "sand" traps really are just weeds and grass and dirt. The carts may not always work, and the cart paths are awful, although once you play there a few times you accept their condition as part of the "charm." There are also a lot of beer cans and bottles strewn around in the woods bordering some of the holes.
It's a shame, because this course could be special, but it would take a lot of money and that isn't likely to happen (it is apparently set for residential or commercial development in the next few years).
Needs help
I liked the layout. The price was very fair. The fairways were in good shape. Most of the greens were eat up and bumpy. The sand traps haven't been maintained in a long time. No sand and overgrown. The staff was very friendly. The tee boxes were rock hard.
Would have liked to see the condition of this course 20 years ago.
The pace of play was excellent because I only saw 3 other carts on the course until I finished round.
The weather was perfect. The course was worn and tired and begged for days gone by. First and last time playing it.
A great day with friends
Pinetuck is pretty much the least expensive place to play in the Charlotte, N.C., region so if you manage your expectations going into a round here you will have a fantastic time.
I think a lot of reviewers forget about that when they leave their one-star reviews. I don't think they ever played Muni golf or scrounged for green fees as a kid.
I took some friends that hadn't played golf in a while, and who were hesitant to tee it up at a pricier place, and we all had a great time.
Sure the course needs work, as do many of the carts, but the layout is actually really good. Hole 17 might be one of the prettiest Par 3s in the area.
Staff is super friendly in the clubhouse and the pace of play was ridiculously quick. Snack bar is basic but inexpensive.
Greens are still a little patchy in a few spots but putting was not bad at all and the greens were receptive to approach shots. A couple other nearby courses have either punched their greens or are about to punch so I wasn't complaining.
You'll pay $10 to hit a really small bucket of practice balls at many courses in the area. Or you can grab a Hot Deal and play 18 with a cart at Pinetuck for just a little more.
I know which one I would choose.
Par 71 6500 yards. Basically telling yourself your better than you actually are.
I wish I could give this place negative stars it was that bad. Fairway in the front 9 looks like it had a ICBM missile detonate in the middle. I’m afraid there could be active land mines while I step onto the tee box. Cart path is so bad I may have CTE and whiplash. Greens? Forget about itttt. Your 10 foot putt for birdie will leave you dry with a par due to how slow and bumpy the greens are. Whoever is managing this place (if they manage it at all) should just sell the place and start all over again. This place could be really special but has been almost abandoned because of how bad the maintenance is. Trash all over the course and an abundance of cig butts that you can use as tee’s if you don’t have anymore. Oh yeah speaking of tee’s, you can get yours in the ground because of how hard the soil is! Some holes feel like you’re playing on concrete. The carts also have a slight camber in the front because the ball joint on the axle is broken so it makes steering impossible.
