About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

Great value and fun course
I played as a single and got through in about 3 hours passing a few folks who were very willing to let me go through. The course is not difficult but it is a challenge. I had a great time and if you want great value, a good layout, decent greens even if they had just been plugged, this is a good place to go.
Ok for the money
Moderately priced public course set in rolling hills. Adequately maintained with a few rough spots on most holes. Adequate driving range. The concrete golf cart path is a fairly rough ride since many sections have settled differently over the years. I like the fact that the course does not wind through neighborhoods so you get a feeling of open space and remoteness even though you are just a few miles from downtown Austin.
Great value for the money.
Fairways in good shape, even in late August. Greens could use some attention. They are kind of rough and patchy. Overall great value.
Nice course, had a good time.
The course was nice. Was a good challenge and cant wait to get get out there.
Very nice!
For $20 dollars it couldn't have been any better. The staff was great and course was is in great shape. The fairways had actual grass in them, not rocks and dirt so I was very happy! Obviously pace of play is always a concern of mine so here are a few helpful tips for you. After you hit your tee shot, go find your ball, pick out a club, get two good practice swings and then hit the darn ball. Do this for every shot! You are not trying to qualify for the masters so stop standing over you put for five minuets, you look like a fool and it's a total wast of every ones time!
Fun course
Great course right by the expo center/rodeo. Fun holes not too challenging and they give you a free drink
The course is in good condition
The Course Was In GOod Shape The Fair Ways Were A Little Brown But The Greens Were Nice
Local gem
This course was actually my second time playing BBH, but it will not be my last. In the golf dictionary next to the term, "Local Gem" is a picture of Bluebonnet Hill. The price is great, the scenery is deliciously central Texas, and the pace of play is rapid as long as you don't get behind the foursome I was behind who refused to let me, a single play through while they were a walking group! But I'm not here to review the group ahead of me. The course is a bit dry, but we are in a drought. There are a couple of holes that really made me think about club selection and course management. Please go and play this course! Or don't so there's more room out there for me. I will probably make this my default Austin course.
Great Value
Bluebonnet has long had a reputation for having some of the best rolling greens in the Austin area, and despite our lack of rain they have managed to live up to it. Kuddos to the greenskeeping crew!
The greens were near perfect! The rest of the course is not bad either, with only the areas just off the fairways showing signs of distress.
We played in some intense heat (104) and it would have been nice if they had put the cooler of iced towels on the drink cart instead of on the back porch of the clubhouse. I would have even paid a couple bucks to "rent" one.
Overall it was a very enjoyable day on the Hill.
Great course at a great price!
Bluebonnet is a great course at a great price because the staff is friendly and always looking out for the customer. The course is in great condition, the greens are rolling nice and the fairways are well kept. The wind is typically a factor and each hole carries the potential to challenge golfers of all skill levels. There are many birdie opportunities but you can pay a price if you get too greedy. Great course with a great view and most times we finish between 4 and 4.5 hours.
average course with above average greens
I play all over and drove an hour to try this one; worth playing but not worth driving an hour for. Greens are very good, better than most, medium speed and smooth. Lots of grass mounds border greens with areas of rough to collect mishits. Bunkers - more than half are good with a few needing fresh sand. Fairways - firm. Areas of rocks and hardpan along edges of fairway that encourage hooks/slices to go in woods easier. Play is faster than most courses. Number 17 is 165yds of carry over a lake from back tees, beautiful hole! Layout of course is good.
Tremendous Value, solidly maintained course
I played for $9. That's crazy. Golfnow is the best thing going.
Course is well maintained. Staff is friendly.
Best golf cart I have ever been in. Very fast. In fact a little too fast for the somewhat narrow cart paths. Kept going off the edge of the cement cart paths.
Did I tell you I played for only $9. Legit 6500 yard course. I played from the back tees for the most part until I joined in with a pair of golfers that were playing from the next tees up.
Greens are big and fast. I would say it was playing about a 13 on the stimp meter. I don't like fast greens but I know in order to be a very good putter of the ball you must play faster greens.
I got a free bottle of water to boot. Supposedly you can also get some cold towels on what was a very hot day, although I did not get one. That would have been only temporary relief as it was 104 degrees by the time we got to the 18th green.
Oh and it played in about 3 hours, very fast, although it was a weekday afternoon.
One of my go-tos
Bluebonnet is one of the best semi-unknown values around Austin.
Nice course layout, almost always in great shape, fast pace of play. Course isn't super difficult but does have some tricky shots and some holes that force you into decisions. Staff is great. For the money there's not a better course in or around Austin. One of my staple courses and highly recommend
Great greens, fairways, great for all.
This course was a great value. It's nicely maintained fairways and greens make for a great day of golf. The greens were fast though so be forewarned to use a lighter stroke. Everything about my experience was great except for some of the bunkers; they tended to either be rock hard from baking in the sun or they were holding a pool of water inside of them. Other than that great course
Typical muni
Typical muni. Fairways were in good shape after a recent rain.
Good course with potetial to be great!
We loved the layout. The fairways were a little rough (probably due to the lack of rain in central Texas), but the greens seemed to be in pretty good shape. The only real complaint we had was that the Holes weren't marked very well. They are only marked with a small marble marker that can't be seen from the cart path at all.
We would recommend this course to any of our friends.
Very open course, great for beginners
I have just started playing. I have passed this course for 11 years as a worker at Decker Power Plant and it was great to finally play this course. It was nice of them to have cold rags for the hot day.
Course is in very good condition.
We found this to be excellent for beginners to play. Fairways are open, several holes have fairway bunkers but not many large trees. All greens are well maintained, several are surrounded with elevations features. Played weekday afternoon.
Speed of Play slow
Teaming up a two-some should be elective, not forced. th overall course however is well kept for most parts. Some areas need attention but the overall play was generally good. Recommend going early and bring lots of cool towels
Not a bad course, but better buys for the money
They say they are the home of the four hour round, was not the case for us. The course was in ok shape, but there are a lot of better buys for the money. This is a typical city golf course. Some challenging holes but in general everything is pretty much straight ahead. The fairways where very hard, no divots on this course and the putting greens where very fast and un predictable.
