About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

Fun course but slow players in front and no Marshall sighting ever
Fun course but slow players in front and no Marshall sighting ever. Old, old, old men playing really slow every time I play here. They really need to have more Marshall attention.
Cheap is good if that's what you're looking for
Our twosome tee'd off on a Sunday at 3:28pm. There was a foursome that we had seen finish up on hole #1 and then a single guy tee'd off right before us. As we waited and waited on each hole, we noticed there was a single behind us as well who was caught up to us. Since he's just one guy, we tell him to play through. Several holes later, another single behind us catches up (we're behind a foursome and now two singles). We again let him play through because we don't want to have someone on our tail the rest of the time. At one point on the back nine, my partner and I are finishing up on a green and a single guy with a cart passenger drives by our cart and tees off on the next hole. Not only does he tee off, but he hits two balls. I absolutely could not believe this. Never seen that happen before. It had been a while since I have played this course, but after this experience I won't be going back. The course is obviously not very well managed and it just takes forever to play.
Good condition! Fun day!
Although the course was very busy, the pace of play was great! Course conditions has improved greatly, thanks to a rainy couple of weeks and good maintenance staff!
Thanks for the day at Bluebonnet!
Nice course, close to downtown
Great way to spend an afternoon. Course was crowded but the marshall helped people keep pace.
Solid but could use a little love
The greens were very well maintained. The bunkers that were grown over look a bit funny and it is a bit tricky to get on and off the cart path- it is a bit uneven in spots. Overall I would recommend it. It's got great views of Walter Long lake on the back nine.
Great value
Greens were in good shape and layout is fun. Good mix of hole designs. Course is in good condition and it was cart path only the day I was there. I liked the short par 4's but you could play the tips and make them longer. Great value for the money with a drink ticket included in the fee. I will play here again on my trips into Austin.
Great Executive Course
Complete with par 4s and 5s, the course plays quickly. For a public course with lots of play, the conditions and maintenance are very good.
Excellent greens!!!
Bluebonnet is a great course to get out with some buddies and have a good time. Plus the staff they have is always very friendly for sure one of my favorite places to play!
Fairways were nice and greens were in excellent shape.
This is a very forgiving course and a great "Golfnow" value.
Superb Course for the Money
Took my son to play 9 holes late on a Sunday. Had such a good time we played 12. Greens were in immaculate condition - especially given the brutal Texas summer we've had. Staff were friendly and flexible - and even provided drink tickets for both of us. We'll be back!
great course, friendly staff, free beer!
great course with friendly staff. always play this course for a quick round of golf. greens well maintained and a fast pace of play.
Nice fast pace course!!!
I love to play this course when I don't have a lot of time. Pace of play is quick and course is in great condition.
Great Golf.!
Really like playing Bluebonnet.. Course is in good shape with puttable greens..
Staff very friendly and welcome the physically handicap golfer..
Just ask for the Handicap flag.. Most accomadating..
Look for the bobcat on hole #15
Great golf course to play
This course is very good for the money. Staff is very friendly. Every time I have been to this course solo I have paired up with great people. The course is very forgiving for new golfers but is challenging for better ones.
Fun course to play.
Fun course to play. Very well maintained. Hidden gem.
Great day
Tee time at 8:15am greens were moderate and speeded up once the dew was gone . Unusual day with no wind .i have a 22 handicap and shot a 91.
Hills, water and open spaces
The hills and doglegs make it challenging. The greens have recently been aerated so putting is tough but I almost holed a 60 ft putt on #17, my nemisis. Sand could be fluffier.
Good round of golf
Course length is moderately short with some (almost) drivable par 4's i.e. 323, 337. Greens well maintained and very playable even within a week of punching. Better than most courses! Overall this is a great Austin standard that should be visited regularly. Thank you to the staff for having a "glad you're here" enthusiasm about them and allowing my handicapped wife to ride along without charge. Yes, I would recommend this course.
Avg course
Course is easy but fun. Greens were just aerated. Fairways were dry, but its August in Texas
Great daily fee course
This course is set up beautifully with some challenging holes, some easier holes and some risk/reward holes for the long hitters out there. Greens were just airated, but normally some of the best greens in Austin. Fairways are in pretty good shape for the time of year and if you head there, you will have a great time. The staff is friendly, and they provide ice towels at the turn to help you cool off. Wonderful course.
