About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

fun track
fun track with some good elevation changes. Front 9 is pretty short, but definitely opens up on the back and gets more challenging. Typical Texas, horrible t's, fairway, bunkers - but decent true greens.
This course needs some maintance!!!
This course was fun. Difficult and slow at time. They play people back to back. if your just a two some expect to be paired up with otheGreat weather. Tee boxes in pair 3's are almost like a sand trap. They need some major repairs. They don't even give you sand on the cart. Overall I think I would play there again but it would only be after 1 to get the twilight special. I would never pay the full price!
Nice Course
I played this course on an early Friday morning and really enjoyed myself. The greens are in great condition and the staff members were really nice. My only complaint was that the course seemed to play pretty short but then again I only played from the white tees. With that being said, I would definitely play this course again.
Hidden gem. Great Value. Pristine greens.
This has got to be the best value in Austin. The tee boxes, fairways, rough and bunkers are average, what you would expect from muni golf. The greens are a different story. They are smooth, lush, roll true, offer great difficulty due to vast undulation. They really make this course a pleasure to enjoy. This is a short course, but holding the greens is a challenge onto itself. Highly recommend (for the price).
Brand New Carts and Great Greens
Played on Saturday this past weekend and I was very happy. The greens were in excellent condition. Have not putted on greens this good for the price in a long time. Glad to see the new golf carts as well. Always a pleasant surprise to be in a new cart. I heard I was a weekend later though, I guess they were giving away free food over Masters weekend.
Bluebonnet Hills has some challenging holes but is fairly accessible to the average golfer.
The course was in fairly good condition even though the fairways had been recently aerated. Greens were in good condition and the sand traps were well raked with good sand. The carts appeared to be new and that's always a bonus!
A decent bang-for-the-buck course. Staff is always a little "uppity."
Conditions were a little better than what you would expect a ~$30 course to be. Greens were all in good shape. Fairways were not dry and cracking(It's not summer yet, though). A couple of the tee boxes could use some attention, but for the most part, they were acceptable. There is a little water in play here and there which is nice. There isn't a single hole that really feels difficult, but they all require one or two good shots to have a chance at par.
I feel like the staff there believes they are currently employed at Pebble Beach. I got the vibe that they felt like, had my friend and I not snagged up half of the oh-so-valuable 9:36 tee time, that Tiger and Sergio would have graced them with their presence instead. Hey, Staff, you essentially work at the Outback Steakhouse of golf courses. Yeah, it's pretty good. Yeah, I love going there. But it's no Texas Land & Cattle. If you think you're such a hot pile, go work at Wolf Dancer so you at least have an excuse to look down upon us normal folk. (For the record, I've played Wolf Dancer, and the staff there was absolutely amazing. They actually made me feel like they were excited that regular old me showed up and played golf on their course.)
Average but great fun with some challenges
Bluebonnet is always in good condition, maybe a little rough around the edges but good greens and good enough fairways make for a pleasant round. The staff is great and the people that play at Bluebonnet are down to earth good people. This is a great course to just go out and have a really good time. Great skins game on Tuesday evenings, lots of fun.
Fair value, awful condition
At the discounted rate of 36 for aeration and sanding of greens it was an ok value play. I think the course itself really tests your short game because from the tips it's 6,500 and pretty a short, but you really have to handle some of the challenging angles and pin placements off really bad lies. When we played it was a dog track and not very enjoyable .
Enforcement of 4 hour round is a joke. I saw zero marshals and we got stuck in a 5 hr round
Love the course
Great course for a really reasonable price. Extremely green since it just rained, great putting conditions.
Firm and fast
Course is firm and fast, which when playing in 30 mph made it feel like you were at St. Andrews. Course is dry and firm, greens have no hold and were challenging. Fairways not easy to hit off, like hardpan.
Course boasts pace of play at 4 hours, but we had to leave after hole 15 as it had been 4 hours. Granted it was Sunday afternoon, but I did not see any marshalls enforcing pace. Also, did not see a beverage cart all day (if that means anything to you).
All in all, a good course that is lots of fun with great value.
Fun little course with some tricky greens.
I played this course early in the morning, and although the conditions were quite windy, I enjoyed myself. Although the course is pretty short, I found the greens to be quite challenging which made for a more interesting round. The par 3 17th over the water was the highlight of the course, in my opinion.
Great deal!
The course was in acceptable condition. The greens were in excellent shape, they rolled pure and true.
played on a holiday (presidents day) pace of play was great
fair course, great pace of play, great price for the value.. much better than blackhawk and its $10 cheaper
Bluebonnet Hill has just about everything you could want.
I really like playing this course because: the fairways are always maintained, the greens are nice, the staff very friendly, the price reasonable & the layout allows for a really enjoyable round.
Take your money elsewhere
Bluebonnet books tee times 8 minutes apart but doesn't have near enough carts to support it. We had to wait 45 minutes after our scheduled tee time to get a cart. Staff was not bothered. Also because of the compressed tee times, had to wait on groups ahead on most holes. Could only play 14 holes before darkness fell. Course not in good condition. Terrible experience.
Awesome Texas style course!
Nice greens, fairways are ok, buut good overall. I d play there again.
Showed range balls online/clubhouse denied
Special showed to come with range balls online, however when checking in at the clubhouse the pro said it wasn't on the print out so I was out of luck. He had a real negative tone, that i didn't appreciate.
Won't play this course again!
I have golfed this course twice and haven't had a good experience either time. They want to try and pack so many people on to the course that they don't care how uncomfortable it makes the people paying to play their. If your not going in a foursome they will pair you to make sure their are four on every tee. We also show up for our tee time and was asked to wait 30 mins to tee off so that we could get our cart. They over book tee times as well and run out of carts. Not to mention the staff is not apologetic or friendly about the situation what so ever. I will not be golfing here again and wouldnt recommend it either.
Great practice facilities, enjoyable round, but always windy!
The fairways are windswept, and faster than the greens! The greens and tee boxes were in good shape. The course is not really long, pretty open, and has an interesting variety of holes. The wind is always a big factor here - 30 mph during my last round. The facilities are very good, staff is friendly. and pace of play is good. Overall, an enjoyable round, despite the wind.
