About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

Great Day for Golf
The greens were in pretty good shape. The fairways were hard and dry and very bumpy. I lost two drives that were right down the middle. I watched one drive with a nice little right to left draw hit the center of the fairway and shoot straight right and roll all the way to next fairway over. You're suppose to get punished for hitting bad shots not good ones. I won't visit or recommend Bluebonett again until they start watering the fairways.
Fun course to play. Great winter condition.
Started on time. Tee boxes in great shape. Fairways are winter brown but well mowed. Great ball roll under these conditions. The large expansive greens that Bluebonnet is famous for are green and in excellent condition, putting very fast. Down hill puts to the cup can easily run well past the hole. Best to play short and put up to the cup where pin placement is on a slope when possible. All in all I rate Bluebonnet a Best value course for reasonable green fees, pace of play, and overall playability in the Austin Area.
Good course conditions
Greens are in good condition. Some bare area on fairways, but generally in good shape.
Great people! Great staff and service, great all around course
Bluebonnet Hills is a great place to play. I have a regular threesome for Sunday and this is our course of choice. The staff at Bluebonnet Hills knows their stuff. The staff there is second to none. They will bend over backwards to make your day great and fun. The pace of play is awesome. When they say home of the 4 hour round, they mean it. My brother, my colleague and I always have a great time here. Make it your golf home, you won't be sorry.
Best greens in town for a public course!
We play BB every couple of weeks. Fairly challenging course particularily with the wind blowing. Good value and friendly staff.
Good value for your buck
greens were in excellent shape. fast and ran true. played in mid day and there were a half dozen places that were soaked. unsure if they had sprinkler problems or what. that was my only complaint. its really hard to play shots when there is a mire between you and the green that you must contend with but cant see.
go for the greens
bluebonnet is a decent course overall. it's wide open and pretty easy. pace of play is always great. but the best part is the greens. they are some of the best in town.
it's a fun course and definitely worth a visit.
Decent greens, dead fairways
Course is overall pretty easy -- have scored my personal best here -- but the fairways are rough and in laughably poor shape. Played about 12 holes during twilight round for only $17 (riding), so there's still some value.
For the price there are not very many courses like 'the bonnet'.
With its proximity to town, this links style course provides an honest challenge to any handicap. It is possible to shoot amazing scores at times, but there are hazards particular to this course that is worth it. The long and sometimes forgiving fairways tempt even the most conservative golfer to 'go for it!’, and just enough risk to keep the any golfer modest. The rolling fairways and the breezes complete the beautiful surroundings. The large greens are inviting to approach shots, however beware of the undulations and pin placement.
Good value.
Course was in decent shape considering it as January. Greens were in excellent shape.
Staff was very friendly. Greens were great.
The staff was very friendly and got me onto the course quickly as I was a single and just looking for a place to play. The greens were really good, which is my number 1 criteria. The fairways were really hard and and since the grass is dormat this time of year, I guess they don't water. I'm used to playing in the Northwest where the fairways are soft winter and summer. I had a great time, just need to get better at picking the ball. There were no divots on this day.
Sweet greens on a fun, windy set-up.
Relatively wide-open fairways, dotted with a few grass and sand traps, lead to true, fast, undulating greens.
greens in great shape, fairways average for winter--will play again
We enjoyed our round here. I had not played the course in about 8 years. We played in about 4 hrs and this included a nice stop for lunch at the turn of about 15-20 minutes. Only negative was an employee asking us if we had alcohol in our cooler in a less than friendly manner. There are friendly ways to do this, and since none of us drink, it was a little irritating. I would advise a little employee training in diplomatic ways to enforce club rules.
Sraff was great and its a good course layout. The problem with the course is not enough water and fairway management. The fairways are hard as a rock.
The course deaign is very friendly to the average golfer but you'll have to hit off extremely hard fairways for your 2nd approach shot. Thats is the case every hole other than that fair course.
This is a very good value.
We called the pro shop three hours before our scheduled tee time to ask if my wife and I could play as a two-some and they said they would block it off unless the demand became too high. Based on my experience, this was an excellent response and I know 11am on a Sunday can get really busy. He kept his word and we enjoyed our round. The fairways were average, but okay given the lack of rain and the season. However, the greens were in very good condition. I had a divot to repair on every descent green shot and the ball didn't have unexpected bumps and turns from improper care. Tee boxes were well maintained so the tee sets up easily without breaking two tees to get one to stand.
Greens were great
Overall the course was in good condition for this time of year. The greens were great, the tee boxes on the par 3s could use a little attention but there was a grounds crew out working on them. This course is my local favorite and hasn't let me down yet.
Great and affordable
Bluebonnet Hill is an excellent course that is well-maintained and very affordable. It's great for beginners and advanced players as well.
This course was in great shape.
This can play long if you're at the tips. But it is easy to manage.
